Wedding banquet contract details

Hi fellow Btb,

Just received my draft contract from my selected hotel. I have no experience in booking of banquet venue even for corporate usage, I need kind help to clarify my doubt. I won't disclose the hotel name as it is stated in the contract for non-disclosure agreement.

My questions:
I wonder is it common to have Cancellation & Postponement Policy that stated if cancellation/postponement incur 16 - 12 months prior to actual event will be charged 50% of the total bill on top of initial deposit? Is it a common practice for venue booking? Isn't 16-month a very big gap till the actual event, because anytime I signed now is considered in the 16 - 12 months prior to the actual event

Wow tats quite a huge gap...mine was 50% for 241 days (ard 8 mths) before the event...

Perhaps different hotels have different clauses? Also, tis might tied back to the overall package tat was signed.

mine within 8 months prior is 100%

Does it allow for transfer? If so then not so bad, can still try to sell away package in case.

Mine within 6 months is 50% then slowly increase as the day draws nearer... 12-16 mths is really very long :O

mine is 12 mth prior is 50% and now my gf suddenly said not ready and I need to sell my package asap.

depends on the hotel. My contract is 100% cancellation policy and non transferable.
