Volunteering your time

how do one get started on volunteer work?

I don't have a cause or anything like that, just want to spend some time contributing to society/community since i have the time now.

thought of helping children, handicapped, elderly or pets related directly is not my cup of tea...wondering how else i can contribute.

anyone has any suggestions where to get started.

maybe you can approach the societies directly and tell them that you're interested in doing volunteer work ..

all of those that i know belong in the above 4 categories which i have absolutely no interest in.

somehow spending up to 15 hours a week sitting next to a elderly folk/handicap/kid/pet and chatting/helping/reading/whatever is just not my idea of how to help.

i am thinking along the lines of organising, promotion, empowering women to earn money thru cotage industry crafts etc, financial counselling, recruitment advice type of volunteer work but have absoluteely no idea whom to approach.

anyone has names or numbers of societies/org that i can contact directly?

that's a great idea, i've heard of them too but unfortunately i do not have a mode of transport neither am i physically able to lug heavy stuff.

besides delivery of food....they need volunteers to help with admin stuff in the office

oh tried calling a few from those on that website and emailing some, but unsuccessful, one replied that posting was from last year and they no long need volunteers for that assignment.

some email addresses bounced back as unsuccessful delivery.

hiaks, looks like it's not as easy looking for a cause.
