Hi, I would like to know if it is possible to file for singapore marriage overseas. Cos both of us are working overseas. I know they said either one have to be in SG for 15 days in order to file. Are there anyways around it? taking 15 days off will make me or her lose our job....

TTT> Hi. According to the ROM website it mention as: At least 1 of the 2 parties to an intended marriage must have been resident within Singapore for at least 15 days before he or she may file a notice of marriage. This applies to all regardless of citizenship.

The only other way is for you to call the ROM office regarding this matter.

If not one of you can choose to come back to SG for holiday or sort out your wedding matters during your stay in SG.

ok.. so only FILING need to be back for 15 days... then actualy ROM date no need right?

cos ROM we intend to fly back for errr... 3 days then go back to working country..

COW> Example if you efile on 16 May 09 so 15 days before meaning 1-15 May 09 at least 1 or 2 parties to an intended marriage must have been resident in Singapore.

ROM date?? Of coz you need to be in Singapore to ROM... what do you mean ROM date no need??

Hi,

Just to add on, i did contact ROM regarding this matter. As I am staying with my HTB overseas (he is foreigner) so we want to know if ROM can waive the 14 days.

They said that they can make special arrangements for this, however there is a sgd200 charge (if i didnt remember wrongly) and you need to have documents from your company to prove that it is due to work thats why you cant fulfil the 14 days.

Best for you to call or email them, they will give you details on it.

christy> i mean ROM dont have to be back in sg for at least 15 days before?

eg. err.. 10 October ROM/Solemn. i come back sg on 9 October no problem right?

candy> 200SGD? god.. the government really know how to make money, i still dont get the logic of being in sg for 15 days.. doesnt make sense.

COW> Oh. The 15 days do not apply for your ROM date... but usually you and your hubby have to come back about 1 week before to collect your marriage certificate. The appt date for you to collect your marriage cert will be given to you after you have done your efile.

Hi does anyone knows?

If my ROM date is a Sun, and if my HTB arrives on a Sat afternoon. How can we go down to the registry to verify the documents? I am trying to avoid this by asking him to be here on a Fri instead...

Candy> Normally verify of document is about 1 week before the ROM date and that is call the appt date will be given to you all aft you all efile. The appt date is on a weekday.
