Unpleasant experience with JP

I just had my solemnization on 10 sept and we engaged a Jp to solemnize our wedding outside of rom venue.

After the solemnization my hubby and I received this SMS from the solemnizer, Anna Lim Bee. Below is the SMS which I copied from my phone:

Tks for yr minimum ang pow - I guess u didnt appreciate my long counselling session - next time, I will try to shorten my session to 15 mins. Best wishes

We had actually given a token of $40 and that was her immediate response to it! We were pretty shocked by it as we thought that $40 is a reasonable sum since the ROM officer told us that the min a couple should give is $28!

Somemore our original Jp last min cancelled our agreement and found a replacement for us who is the Anna Lim Bee Lian! Upon our meet up with her to re sign the rom contract she gave us a long lecture on what marriage is and she said that she did it out of her good will and normally she charges her client per session for such counselling at $100+ per hour.

My conclusion is what is the role of a JP and is it right for them to demand a payment from the couples?

For those who wanna engage a JP pls avoid this JP unless ur willing to pay her the type of token she expects from the couples whom she solemniese!
 
hihi this JP is just out to suck money. My JP give us free pre-discussion aka her so called counselling session. He didn't even ask us to pay him and willingly invite us out for a meeting!

Yeah $40 is more than enough, i think she's out to get money.

Should have read your post earlier and we wouldn't have gone through what you did. Yes, we received the same sms "Tks for yr minimum ang pow - I guess u didn't appreciate my one hour talk with both of u. Best wishes for a long last marriage".

During our talk with her, we thought she was noble and was doing additional stuff that were beyond her duty as a solemnizer. She stressed that "usually" she will charge $120 for such talk, so we were thinking that this is not the "usual" since her job involve counseling other couples too. And thus we gave her the maximum recommended amount stated in the ROM website. But after we received her "tks" then we realize her hint to pay $120 didn't get through our thick skull...

I agreed with Jinying that this elegant & "rich-looking" tai tai is out to suck out our money. But the least she can do is to spell it out nicely and clearly. We were so inspired by what she said during the "counseling" session, and now what she said is like a blasphemy to her role and what she had said.

We had our solemnization cum wedding dinner on the same day in Oct 2011. And thank god I didn't check my mobile phone message until the dinner was over. That stupid message sent by her was so uncalled for and it dampened our mood for the rest of the evening.

Reanne, I wanted to complain to ROM but my wife felt that I shouldn't let this darken the memory of our big day. It already suck that we had such solemnizer, but I just can't stomach this. I leave this message here to warn others whom will be getting solemnize by her. Especially the couple whom will be having their solemnization with her in Nov 2011. Yes, we have our "briefing" together remember? Good luck.
