Silhouette the Atelier

Ya wonder why it's so quiet! Anyway girls, I went for my first fitting recently and can I just say, I love my dresses! My white dress is a big sequined tulle, and my evening dress is a slight mermaid-cut dress in royal purple! Caroline has yet to sew on the embellishments for the first fitting so now I'm really excited for the second appointment!

Saw 2 other ladies in the boutique during my fitting and the entire shop was so cramped as 3 of us put on the big ballgowns! Tried to exchange smiles with the 2 other ladies but I guess they were too busy checking out the gorgeous gowns in the mirror! Well, I'm wondering if they are in this forum as well...

Anyone keen to exchange pictures with me? Let me know...

hi vespertine! so exciting!
happy.gif
i'm only suppose to go meet kenji to discuss my EG this month and not taking measurements yet ... when's your AD?

I went SIL yst and the gowns are fantastic! I was served by kenji and i thought the service was good.. I tried on a couple of gowns and I loved almost every gown I've tried on..

Will be checking out several other boutiques before confirming =)

pinkglove> i love sil too .. seems from the forum that the wedding present is also doing same type of gowns as sil does i.e. the tulle ball gown designs

Has anyone went over to the Amoy Street outlet yet?

Kenji said that that side's dresses are slightly different from the ones at stamford house.

I had been to stamford house half a year ago.. I liked every piece that I tried on but when I saw the package.. i Go @@.. But after going to so many other wedding boutiques, I am thinking of giving SIL another thought..

Also, any feedback is SIL too busy??? Cos i am quite hesitate if the boutique come across as too busy.. I went to one of the similar boutiques before and that place seems overcrowded with BTBs.. Three of us even had to share a changing room. Not only that, but the designer don't seems very interested to answer my concerns. Maybe I am abit paranoid but to them, i am one of their many customers, but to me, they are my only one to make my wedding dress special. Wahahah right?

One of newly joined SIL BTB reporting in.

I was told by Kenji that Amoy Street outlet have more variety of gowns compared to stamford house.

Claudia> I've also been to stamford house almost 1 year ago and I visit the amoy street oulet this time round...and I'm sold! Haha.

Have confirmed the WG but still deciding on which color to choose for the EG. Any suggestions gals??

hi dyeann, I also thought that twp is doing same type of gowns as sil but after i went to twp today and being shown 3 gowns, non of it seemed like the gowns i saw at sil so i guess prob it's tulle ball gown but the styles are still very different.. i feel sil gowns are significantly different..btw, read tat u took up the package @ the wedding show, can I know when was the wedding show held?

hi claudia, I think SIL's alright, so long u make appointments I don't think they will have too many btb at the same time trying on gowns..

Hi Sang qing,

really? Great! When would you be having your wedding?

Most people recommended to take fuschia pink or red cos it almost suits every skin tone and bring colours to your photos. But most important, dun wear the colours of your table cloth and napkins. What colours do you like?

Claudia> I'm having my wedding in Sep 2010 but will be doing my photoshoot in Mar so got to decide the EG by this month.

Initally thought of choosing either red or blue cos it looks bright in photos. But decided against it when hold the fabric against my skin.

Maybe will try out the pink when go down for discussion tml.

claudia > me with amoy st branch .. didn't even pop by stamford house cos the first time i called, lady who answered the phone was impatient and curt :<

pinkglove> the show i went was with sheraton in sept/oct i think?

Sang Qing> Mine's in June and I haven't decided on which BS yet. Was thinking of the other one who specilized in Tulle Dresses but was thinking they look very very busy. I think i will give Amoy Street a try and hope that I will be blow by them just like you :D

Dyeann> Who attended to you at Amoy? The first time i went to stamford, i was attended by Kenji. Now when I called amoy branch, he answer the call again. Seems fated.. Haha

Sidetracking abit, Kenji had a long veil for me to try on the other time and I was like "woah.." I didn't know the impact of the long veil.. But seems like more appropriate for a church wedding. Is anyone here having a long veil for their actual day? Lucky them!!!!

Claudia> Hope you'll find the gown you like!
happy.gif

You can have the long veil for photoshoot
happy.gif

I'm intending to rent the long veil when doing my shoots.

My sis-in-law was having the long veil for her shoots and when i saw the photos, one word: beautiful! Haha.

Hey, thanks for giving me the idea..

Yah.. Really beautiful.. Feels like you are a princess especially with their tulle gowns. Hahah!

dyeann - tat really sounds like a good deal then, so recent =) are u having ur EG otr or mtm?
The package they showed me was mtm EG but im not really keen on having mtm cos I like to see the real product..

I think long veil will have a very different look for PS! Gd choice, sang qing =)

Hi dyeann! My AD's in May 2010. Suddenly feeling paranoid now about my EG. Because I haven't seen it with the embellishments, I'm so worried that I will not like it during my second fitting! And I want it to look dramatic, but it seems like the slight mermaid cut is not that loud. Maybe I should have it very mermaid instead of a flare-out.

Anyway Claudia > I was also worried that Silhouette will get too busy after their 2 wedding shows. But I must say, everytime I go for my appointments, Caroline will give me her full attention. And the boutique's seldom filled with BTBs at one go. I guess their time management of clients is important. So don't worry too much!

Sang Qing > The colour of your EG should reflect the kind of person you are, I guess? Certain shades of red can be very divine but I guess it can be rather predictable... Pink is very sweet too, but it is also kind of predictable. BUT if it looks good on you, just go for it!

I chose royal purple because purple is my favourite colour! Wanted to go for cobalt blue or black, but these are actually very popular colours, so I might be wearing the same colour as many of my guests! So that's one area you might wanna consider too!

Hope that helps.

Oh I was also comparing TWP with Silhouette once! I super love this particular tulle polka-dotted gown from TWP and almost signed with them because of that dress. Their package is actually not that bad.

pinkglove> mine WG OTR EG is MTM
happy.gif
if i can i would opt for OTR cause my gfren did share her with me that she felt that her EG MTM came out totally different from what she envisioned it would be. so me too prefer to see the dress then wait for designs.

claudia> me was kenji @ amoy all the way! heh i feel comfortable talking to him more. my church wedding is a pretty long march in so still thinking about the long veil with lace but not sure if it will be too loud with the gown since my bodice has beading and designs on it.

sang qing> trial makeup not so early. I think it's usually with the first or second fitting?

vespertine> wooot! another 6 mths to go! so exciting! actually you can ask the designer to show you a "piece" of the embellishment she using to pin it on your gown to show you the effect? usually they sew it on a fabric before this is in turn sewn onto the gown? also if it's very mermaid cut, might be a bit difficult for you to get around babe? just a thought, cause i did share with kenji i would like to have ease in moving around in the dresses if possible.

actually i'm in two minds .. the gown i really liked is used by 1 bride before and it's from previous season. but it was after i saw the picture on their website that I was drawn to silhouette. but i also love another design they have which is just a simple embellished lace top with plain white tulle bottom. but the draw is it will be new.

Dyean> Really? Yah i kind of find that he is easy to talk to too. Dun worry about being loud. Haha If you have a long walkway, you need to stand out more.. else, the surroundings will envelope you. For some dresses which are plain in front and the designs are all at the back then I think not very suitable for long veil cos might block the designs. If your dress has designs in front, i think should be fine. :D just my personal view.

Vespertine> I like royal blue but am also afraid that my guests would be wearing something similar.. One designer told me before WEAR a design that is very dramatic. haha so no worries on clashing of colours and steer away from colours that are in fashion now so chances of clashing might be lower.

Vespertine> thanks for the idea.
happy.gif

Dyeann> Is the gown you prefer looks 'old'?
I was trying out one gown which I quite like it but my hubby mentioned that it looks quite old. So kenji said that he will do a completely new one for me if I wanted that design. Maybe you can ask him abt it?

In the end I choose one simple gown (w/o any embellishment) with tulle bottom. Its consider 'new' since they just make it recently though I did't ask whether any bride had wear it before.
happy.gif

Just a question...do they keep the gown once I confirm it or they will still put it out on display for other BTB to try? Thought I saw my choosen gown on the rack when I went for my EG discussion..

they supposedly keep it but they might make a new one for you whereas the one you tried on was display piece? something like that.the one i like has stains at the areas where the armpit is .. kenji says they will clean it and make sure no stains at all if i want it. they won't make a new piece for this one since it's old design from '08 and also it's pretty expensive gown
sad.gif
i really like the design of the bodice on it but cause of the thought that it's not new having a bit of apprehension over the stains. *sigh*

anyways i opt for plain tulle bottom with long train so the long veil will have the lace designs just at the edge of the train.

i was told that we have to top up $800 for a tulle gown, Dyeann, when u signed the package, was this inclusive? Ya, actually I've the same concern, I prefer to get what I see so it's confirmed something that I like..I think there's always a risk element in mtm..

My WG is also OTR but actually it's "pieced" together from two gowns - I like the bustier from gown A, and the tulle bottom from gown B, so Caroline decided to piece two together. It's not a new design but I guess it's a new piece...

Dyeann > My EG is supposed to have a big flower corsage on one shoulder, as I have seen it on a Vera Wang before, but Caroline hasn't finished sewing it during my first fitting. That's why I'm kinda nervous...

I like mermaid cut, I don't think I will mind walking around uncomfortably for the sake of beauty. HAHA!

anyone bought their wedding shoes already? wonder those embellished shoes from anna nucci will hook the tulle gown or not ...

How many MUA does SIL works with? I been reading through the past posts and only seems that GIN was mentioned.

Any recommendation on MUA?

Also, which florist you girls go to?

claudia .. no idea .. but i just booked gin for my AD. maybe you can go to the BS and take a look at their photobooks cause the make up / hair is done by the inhouse MUA ?

I didn't take the floral options with Sil .. using Mrs Teo @ Blk85 for all my AD floral since I have church wedding in the morning

I just had my wedding last week and am currently on my honeymoon. Just checking in to see how you gals are doing.

On the eve of my wedding last week, I had a hiccup with my gown as I couldn't fit into it. Put on a little weight from emotional eating.
I was so distressed by the thought of not being able to fit into my gown. Luckily for some reason on the eve of my wedding, I couldn't sleep so decided to try the gown on. I contacted my designer and she told me to go down to the shop. And they fixed it for me within an hour.

My designer, Caroline, was really sweet as she comforted me and not only her, also Minda & Theresa who were also there to put their arms around me and calm my fears.
They clearly understood how important the gown is to a girl who's been dreaming of it all of her childhood. Totally no regrets at all going with Silhouette and Caroline. I couldn't ask for a better designer and bridal shop to work with.

Just to share some experiences with shoes. I bought a sling back for my ROM.. Throughout the whole period.. the sling keep slipping down. The whole night i just keep have to bend over to hook back the sling. So "un-glam.."
sad.gif

What kenji mentioned before was just get a simple pair of shoes so the can can will not get hooked onto those bling blings. But ain't those bling bling made so that we can have them as wedding shoes??? haha

sang qing> i requested for her since so far it's good feedback ..

claudia> yup but i needa buy shoe soon so that they can measure since i'm changing out the bottom and to measure the length of the train i want

Hi all, I'm considering renting a OTR WG from Silhouette as I can't find anything I like from my BS. Does anyone know how much is it to rent a WG there? I just need the gown, no makeup or anything else. A rough estimation will do. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

fudgemellow i would think simple gowns is at least 2K + the tulle gowns with alot of crystal / beading would be closer to 3K

Hi Carebearz... It must have been quite traumatic to have to rush to alter your gown the night before!!! Luckily it's all over.... Enjoy your honeymoon ok!

hmmm...seems like I am not the only bride putting on extra weight before the wedding....my wedding gown also burst 2 days straight in a row 2-3 days before my wedding. Thankfully, Caroline, Minda and Theresa also helped me a great deal, last minute alterations to the gown and preventing the wedding gown from bursting :P

I would like to thank Caroline for all the gowns she made for me.....many of my guests raved about my gowns :P Thank you so much. Not forgetting, my hubby's suit and all suggestions made to enhance our appearance on that special day!

My make up was done by Gin. Her hairdo and make up is nice. However, my overall experience with her would have been much better if I have added buffer time to it.

Flowers from 86creations were also well done for the car and floral bouquet.

Thank you so much to the team @ Silhouette!

I agree with Pearl on the makeup part. Do factor in extra time for the makeup. My makeup with Gin was rather rushed as well. I should have booked her for an earlier time slot so we don't have to rush through the makeup.

dyeann> well....i think it depends on your make up and hairdo style...I would say ask Gin the time frame required for your style and add another 30-45min to be safe so as not to be too rushed.

Hi, i am currently looking for my wedding gown (maybe with package), but i dun know where to start my "search"??? i went to 1 or 2 bridal shops but cant find the gown i like [probably i m not even know what i want
sad.gif
] please kindly advise?

BTW, just happened to company my frd for her gown fitting at Silhouette @ stamford house. seem like their gowns are quite nice and something diff... shld i just make an appt to meet up with their designer? or shld i do some search from others? bridal magazine helps?
Many thanks in advance!

Hi girls,

Just wondering if anyone could advise how much is the cost of each make up session and are there a few MUA to choose from with Sil?

My package includes 1 trial, 1 studio and 1 AD. But wanted to have another 2 (1 trial and 1 ROM) with them. Hence, would like to know the cost.

Pearl-> You mentioned that buffer time required. Meaning you should have allowed for more time for the make up? Also, for the make up, did they charge extra for eyelashes etc etc? I heard other bridal studios kinda slaughter you on the price for these add-ons.

Thanks!

Hi Michelle,

Not too sure on the extra costs on extra make up session, I think you would have to discuss with the make up artists you have chosen. I reckon its about $150-250 per session for the extra needed?

Yeah...I should have added about 30-45min buffer time for make up! No extra charges on false eyelashes! Maybe should prepare an ampoule cos I forgot about it. Better to buy your own ampoule and test on yourself first to ensure you got no allergy to it!
