Silhouette the Atelier

Pearl & CareBearz: Thanks for clearing that up! I will scout around abit more and maybe make an appointment with Sil's other outlet (I went to the one at Stamford House). Thanks!

Pearl,
Thanks for the info!

MC,
No problem. Coz I was once in your shoes; I was shocked at the prices that bridal shops here charge for gowns when I started shopping for gowns. It was only until I went to Arab Street to get fabric for my mum and after seeing some of the seamstresses at work, then I realised the amount of work put in.

You may wanna visit mid-tier shops such as GHA to compare with high-end shops like Sil.
You can see the difference in quality.

A beautiful website to share..I sure do love their gowns!
Look at the lace gowns and you can see the amount of work put in. Must have been a lot of cutting and sewing!

http://www.pronovias.com/

BTW, did anyone of you buy the gown? I really feel like buying mine but need to topup at least $1000 more.

CareBearz, thanks! Hopefully I'll find my dress soon!
Pronovias is beautiful! I've seen alot of their ads in bridal mags.

Pearl_Chin, do you mind sending me a picture of your gown? I'd love to see it! And then at least that way I have a rough idea of what to expect for that price. Thanks!

Hi all,

Just wanted to share my experience with Sil with you.

Sil is the first BS that I visited and I already fell in love with the first OTR dress that I tried there. It's a simple A-line dress, slight train, double layer lace on top of duchess satin. I do not need MTM EG since I am not living in Singapore (and therefore has no time for the multiple fitting required). They quoted me 3k for the gown, make-up, flower and car deco. If I top up another 500, I get to keep the dress.

I scouted around for a while and even check out the price for a MTM BG in the 'same' design and the price came up to be about the same.

In the end, I chose to go with Sil and this was last Nov.

I was in Singapore again in March to do the final fitting and to bring the dress back with me to Germany since my first wedding party was here in Sep. They let me take the dress without demanding that I paid the balance (50% left) and assure me that I can do that Feb 2010. That is when wedding party nr. 2 will happen in Singapore.

I am returning end of this month when I will return the dress to them for dry cleaning and additional fitting in preparation for Feb 2010.

All in all, I have to say that I am very satisfied and happy with their service so far! All the guests at my wedding party in Germany were really impressed with my dress! Over here, it is taboo for the groom to see the gown before the wedding. My husband was totally knocked out by how I looked. ;-) Of course, he is my husband and he should feel that way about me.

Here's a pic if you like to view my dress.

Anyway, enjoy the planning! =)

photo was taken during a make up trial. Hairdo and make up as a mock up only.

By the way, my package includes a make up trial, day and night..

just wondering, does that mean I would need to top up for the photo shoot?

TIA!

Thank you very much, gals :P I'm sure all of you will look gorgeous too

Michelle> my package includes 4 make up sessions - trial; photoshoot; actual day morning and night. You may have to top up for photoshoot, maybe its best to ask Silhouette again?

My MUA is Gin and I have to admit that I was a little worried when I did my trial with her as the hairdo and makeup wasn't exactly what I wanted. I thought I looked horrible while my bf thinks it was alright. Gin said it was just a simple mock-up and the lighting in Sil wasn't really ideal. We still decided to stick with her as we didn't have the budget and the time to hire another MUA.

On my pre-wedding shoot recently, I'm glad we stuck with Gin. She was absolutely wonderful. She made me look really radiant and was really good at contouring my round face and bringing out my non-existence cheekbones. She also managed to balance my eyes as one of my eye was bigger than the other. And her hairstyling was fantastic as well. She did my hair to the tee, exceeding my expectations.

So I would happily recommend Gin.

hi ladies hope everyone's coping well with their preparations .. i've finally signed up with silhouette for the basic package. opted out for the men's suit and flowers since i have a church wedding and be getting everyting from my own florist

so excited and can't wait till december to meet up with designer to discuss about my EG

pearl thanks for your advise! it really helped me decided on alot of things.

Pearl Chin: Thanks for informing!I checked and yes, mine consists of 4 make up sessions too..

Just want to check with all, how many months in advance should you start with your designer for designing the EG? If you already know what you want, is it alright to start working on it even though it is still 1 yr ahead of the big day?

shangx> i'm with kenji at amoy street. i feel i can relate to him better than minda during my conversations with them at the sheraton wedding show. so i've picked him as i prefer to work with designer that i'm comfortable with.

the pkg is both OTR WG & EG, topped up $200 to change the bottom of the gown. abit heart pain with the $$ because it's still pretty expensive compared than other studio. trying not to think about it hahahha

Hi!

Does anyone have the Package Details for:

1) Di Gio
2) Julia Wedding News
3) White Link
4) My Bridal Room
5) My Dream Wedding
6) Golden Horse Award
7) Shilloute

Can email me at [email protected]?

Many Thanks!

frostice: they don't really have a fixed price for their package. It's best to go down so you can get a better estimate ;) I was actually quoted 4.3k and 4.9k for 2 different dresses I picked.

anyone has experiences to share for MUA Joey with the silhouette? She has been recommended by my designer and I just like to find out if she's good bec most posts here had only mentioned about Gin.

frostice .. if they had a wedding show on, there will be promotion? so best to go down to check or call to enquire when will be the next show?

I took up during the wedding show and the rates were quoted starting $3800. I topped up to get the gown's bottom changed so it is 4K.

OTR WG + EG
MTM Men's jacket + pants
3 sessions of hair makeup (1 trial + 2 actual day/night)
Bouquet + 2 corsages for groom
4 corsages for parents
1 bridal car deco + 8 ribbons

they were also offering some pre-wedding shoot tie-ins with a few photographers starting from $800 onwards.

the thread is so quiet

Pearl .. will you be wearing cancan with your WG? Thinking now of what to book for my wedding car cause it looks abit big to manage if I have to wear the can can ...

I am with Sil and I am not happy now.
The attitude of the designer is markedly different from when they were trying to get me to sign.
There are a few things with both my MTM dresses that I am not happy with and each change I request for is not welcome by the designer. I feel that I am in the wrong for telling her what I want changed and they are not overhauls definitely but making certain parts slimmer/lower/higher(I can't give too much details.. hope you understand)
I am not a good negotiator so for the past 2 fittings, I have just walked away defeated and unconvinced.
I know it is probably my fault for not insisting on the change but at the same time, I am thinking they are the professionals. but when I think about it sometimes, I know I am just not happy and am not very convinced by the reasons she gives.

Now I am thinking of going to Minda to discuss my problem as I heard she is actually the boss but at the same time I am afraid of jeopardising my relationship with them.

Am I the only facing this situation?
sad.gif

What would you do??

scl end of the day you are paying so much and if the designer's professional .. they should make you look pretty. Get a couple of gfrens who are experienced and good at talking to go with you. I think best to get the designer to understand what you feel you are not happy with or don't like on the dress and see if she can help you come to a common point where she can modify and you can accept? i feel as long as you are honest, reasonable and sincere, they will reciprocate.

who's your designer ? if you really can't communicate with her just tell her you don't want to be upset on that day and be unhappy bride cause pple can tell.

Hi SCL, I faced exactly the same problems as you. Dont worry, you are not alone.
happy.gif
Minda is not the boss of Sil. She is the manager of Stamford house. You are definately not in the wrong for telling your designer what u want. I understand the situation you are in, we as brides will definately hope our designers to be patient, listen to our needs and help us in every way they could. For my case, I changed my designer and it made me felt better. Really kind of regret that I should have changed my designer earlier instead of creating unnecessary stress for myself by going back several times to my previous designer. Btw, who is your designer?

Thanks Dyeann and Peacelover. it does help to have someone understand my situation.
My designer is Caroline and in all honesty she is not terribly bad, but she does not meet the expectations I had. My friend went to others like Michelle Huimin and Frederick Lee and paid pretty much the same price but I think they have better feedback so I dont know if problem lies with me, or with her. Sigh.. I will try again and if it doesnt work, I might get another dress even though it means burning a big hole in the pocket but I dont want to be an unhappy bride. The dress means quite a bit to me and I want to feel pretty and happy wearing it
sad.gif

I will try to communicate AGAIN.... The least I need is to be Convinced that my ideas dont work instead of being brushed away...I went to them cos i thought I would be assured of quality, but now all i'm feeling is distressed cos when I look at the dresses at the rack, I might as well have gotten something off the rack and save the money for other stuff.
Again, thanks babes for listening and empathising.

SCL .. did you collect some cutouts of gowns that you like to share with the designer what you like about the dress? That way it gives the designer something to understand roughly what your taste is like. and instead of pointing out everything that you don't like on the design, you can focus on the +ve points of the gown you like to keep and ask the designer if other "problematic" areas like neckline , beading or material to change to your preference?

Hi Michelle> sorry for the late reply. I started on my evening gown 3 months before my pre-wed photoshoot and its about 7-8 months before my big day. I decided to have another evening gown made last minute by Silhouette which will have to be done in less than 25 days. I guess it makes things easier and faster if you have a design in mind already.

Hi SCL> cheer up
happy.gif
perhaps you should speak to Caroline on the concerns you have. Tell her what you like to flaunt, what you like to focus less attention on, love blings, embroidery? the theme of your wedding etc? perhaps you already have a cutting that you'll like to have, see if there's anything similar, try on and see if the cutting fits you.

Dear SCL, my previous designer was also Caroline. Haha It seemed that we faced the same problem with her. Yes you are right! She is not exactly that bad but I wish she could have been more patient with me. Wedding is only once in a lifetime so please be happy. There are a lot of ways out so whatever it is, I hope you can get your dream gown!
happy.gif

Hey peacelover, which designer did you switch to? was it better?
I had print outs of the gown i wanted but it turned out different in various ways but apparently it was communicated to me that it will be different but I suppose it didnt get through to me. I will try again on the next fitting.. in the meantime, Im actually looking to see if I can find another gown. But yeah, I will still try to be a happy bride

hi dyeann, my evening gown is MTM...basically, I just told Caroline what I am looking for...1st evening gown, I showed her the picture of a dress I like and during fitting, I had to change the cutting to flare the dress out instead to make me look slimmer and I am glad I took her suggestion. As for the 2nd evening gown, I have not seen it yet....and this time round, I just based it on her sketches and suggestions :P I left the dress in her good hands...

Hi SCL, maybe try more gowns and see what you like....get someone suitable to go with you , too many people will confuse you even further as everyone has different likes and opinions. Take note of what you look good in and what needs to be enhanced. Then communicate with Caroline. Good Luck!

I attended grooming courses before and during such courses, the trainers will assess your body shape and tell you what works and what don't work. Like e.g. someone with fleshy arms.
Some said wear sleeves to cover up the arms while some said that wearing sleeves will draw attention to the arms. At the end, it really depends on the overall cutting of the piece of clothing.

I went to Divine and they recommended I go with sleeves as I have fleshy arms and when I tried their sleevesless and sleeve gowns, I looked better in their sleeve gowns. But when I went to Sil, I looked better in their sleevesless gowns.

I think it depends on how you look at it...most of us here aren't trained in designing so we might think something will work for us when in reality, it doesn't.

Do you want a designer who caters to every one of your suggestion even though he knows that it doesn't suit you? Or would you prefer to have an honest designer who tells you outright that your suggestion wouldn't work?

I think it's a "damn-if-you-do-damn-if-you-don't" kind of situation. If the designer incorporates the client suggestions into the gown and it doesn't work, the client will blame the designer for not letting her know right at the beginning. And when the designer lets the client know before the gown production, the client gets unhappy that the designer does not take in her suggestions.

Maybe try and see if you can find similar dresses that you want in shops and try them on and see how they work for you.
And if you're still convinced that your ideas work for you, then tell the designer that you still want your suggestions to be incorporated into the gown but you promise not to blame her if the actual effect is not ideal because after all you insisted on the design.

celin .. you can click back to archives in september or oct
