Silhouette the Atelier

Hey Melissa!

I'm going to the Stamford house cos I'm engaging Caroline Tan (who was recommended by my gf). I went to her last yr to check out the package & I found her to be easy & comfortable to talk to. She'll actually tell you what you don't need to spend extra on. As for extra embellishments on the OTR Gown, she won't charge for it. And I've seen what she has done for my gf's wedding, so am pretty confident with her.

In fact last yr's package only consisted 2hrs of photography with 9 frames & didn't include MTM EG. I guess the top up will be for the photo album & if my HTB will need an extra jacket? Saturday then we'll know lor

BTW, when's your AD?

Hi all,
I just signed up with silhouette, and i found the perfect gown there... Anyone been assigned with Minda before? keen to share any experiences?

After the photoshoot, do they send the gown for dry cleaning after?

melissa> hope you find your gown soon
happy.gif

ngie> actually, I think the package offered is rather worth it...

nathalie> thats great! I am not assigned to Minda but she's been giving me good suggestions too :P Nice lady!

yes, they do send the gown for dry-cleaning. receipt will be given to you, just need to pay direct to dry-cleaner, if I am not wrong.

heard from gf that she had a cordial time with Minda .. so she left it to her wedding planner to handle Minda .. :o( think choosing BS is very stressful.

i missed going to the show cause the lady who picked up the call was very short and curt. tell me to call hotel to enquire directly whether still it's still available slots.

Pearl Chin> Thanks

Will update you gals when I'm back from this sat session.

Faylene> My coordinator is Rebecca. My AD is May 2011, still some time to go. I haven signed up with SIL yet, cos thought it'll be better to sign up after I have found a gown that I like. Although I generally like the tulle gowns at SIL.
happy.gif

Melissa> wow then you have alot of time!
happy.gif
in fact they'll always tell us to book the hotel first before BS. Are you intending to book your hotel soon then since your AD is in 2011?

$4k with pre-wedding photography? That's quite cheap by Sil's standards. I paid $5K+ with no photography.

Actually 4hrs shoot is enough, how many photos do you really need in the album? The guests will just flip through it and not remember anything. And for us, after the wedding, the album gets chunked in storage.

The more hours of photography, the more photos you'll likely to choose to add in the album. That's why for lower end shops like Golden Horse Award, they have full day shoots with like 7-8 outfits but the couple often end up topping up for more pictures and the entire package comes up to $5k.

For me, I would rather spend $5k, get good quality gowns and pictures.
People do not remember the number of pictures you have but they will remember the quality of your gowns.

Quality rather than quantity is my SO and my motto. We always remember this whenever we're swayed by all the freebies or extras that the vendors may offer.

Hey gals, I signed up with SIL yesterday.
Found my ideal gown, but thinking of changing the top. The gown that I booked was featured at the wedding show.
happy.gif

Faylene > I haven booked the hotel, but had decided which one I want. Should be booking soon, in this yr. How's your session at SIL yesterday?
happy.gif

Hi Melissa, I also bought my package from sil. but my gown was featured at the wedding show too. Seems like it's not unique anymore though it was suppose to be. Do they allow you to change the top at no cost?

Hey Melissa> Yes!! I signed with SIL too
happy.gif
so happy I found the gown that I wanted too. But going to add on somemore blink blink...

Faylene> $200 for change of skirt seems too good a deal.... cos I think if change to tulle skirt is a top up of about $800, change of top is at $200 from what I remember.

Faylene> change of top is $200. Great that you have also found your perfect gown.
happy.gif

Jenelle> Did you sign your package first or the wedding show comes first? How does your gown look like?

Does anyone think that Sil likes to push for their OTR gowns?

I initially wanted to MTM my top but they kept persuading me to take OTR. And I went for my fitting yesterday and I still think the top doesn't quite suit me. I'm thinking of going for a MTM top but am afraid might be too late as they say it takes 2months to do a MTM top.

And I understand that the service from Sil an be quite patchy...any ideas how I should approach this with them?

I got some enquires about Sil and thought I'd clarify things here.

I must be one of the most indecisive bride that Sil have. I changed my mind about my eveing gown not just once, but at least 3-4 times! Each time my designer and I would decide on the design and even picked out the colours and materials, only to have me calling her later to tell her that I've changed my mind.

And even my tea-dress, I went from a cheongsum to a lace dress; I kept changing my mind but my designer has been really patient with me. She has been really great in accomodating to my demands and giving me valuable and honest feedback.

I love my OTR gown and the only thing is I was a little concerned about the fit as I am on the plump side. Sil did said that they could MTM the exact same design for me if I really wanted to.

What I meant in my previous posting was, I read all the previous posts and it seems that some of the brides here didn't seem thrilled with their Sil experiences and given my indecisivness history, I was a bit apprehensive about asking them to MTM the gown.
I was worried about putting them off though I know they defintely wouldn't be. Hence I was asking for advice on how to approach them.

If you've read my previous postings, I'm a strong supporter of Sil. And even my SO loves Sil and my designer which is really saying something as he's the type who's got really 'atas' tastes and standards. In fact, he first suggested we visit Sil after seeing their works in magazines and he kept urging me to sign on with them as he loves the very first gown I tried.

I've never encountered any patchy service from Sil; my visits to Sil have always been wonderful and I know I'll miss going to the place when my wedding is over.

So not to worry gals, you'll be in good hands with them.

Hi All,

I went to Sil today and I am totally blown away with their gowns! They are all so beautiful! The cut of their gown really defined my body shape very nicely! The designer was really generous and gave me 6 gowns to try and there is always something that I really like in each gown.

At this point, I am definitely more keen towards Sil, but there are two things which I am not sure of which I hope you all could give me some advice on:

1. The package is definitely on the higher side, but I guess with the details and the quality of the gown, it is worth it. However, the designer only quoted me for bouquet and car deco which is about $200, so this does not include any corsages or any ribbons for the accompanying cars? Do you have these items in your package?

2. I am not sure of the designer who attended to me. She really liked me in this particular lace gown, and kept "pushing" me to agree that this lace gown is the best among the 6 that I tried. Even when I said that I liked the organza top, but maybe we could amend the skirt, she still insist that she prefer me in the lace gown and I should take the organza top for the EG instead. I just feel that if I do take her on, she may not be happy if I insist on other design other than the one she feels I look best in.
I feel that the rapport with the designer is very impt and I don't want any unhappiness if things don't go her way.
Am thinking of giving Sil another try and pop by the Amoy Street branch to have a look and maybe I may be more comfortable with another designer. Is anyone here taking their gowns from the Amoy Street branch? Are the gowns similar?

3. I read in other postings that there is a designer called heath? Is he still around? And if so, does anyone know which branch is he at?

Sorry for the lengthy post...but could really do with your advice! Thanks!

Hi owlet,
Maybe you want to visit the Amoy Street branch? Kenji and Rebecca are stationed there. My designer is Rebecca and I like her, not pushy, honest with opinions though she was among the newest. But if you are looking for a OTR gown, shouldn't be a problem.
My package was signed in Dec last year at around 4.2k, think they have increased the price since then. The flowers and deco are included and there was no top-up for the changing of the top.
I agree rapport with designer is important cuz you will be meeting her quite often. If the designer is pushing you something that you don't like, don't take it. When's ur big day? If its late next year, maybe you want to wait till year end then book your package? Cuz most shops have xmas promotions. I booked mine during last year xmas promotion

Hi Nuahee,

Thanks for sharing pics of your beautiful gown! It is very princessey, especially with the subtle glitter of the sequins, the effect on the photo is very nice! Sighz...just further affirm why I was more wowed with Sil rather than the other BS I visited.

Yes, I have decided to visit the Amoy Street branch and have already made an appointment with them. Keeping my fingers cross!

My wedding is in Oct 2010, no hurry so may wait for their xmas promotion, if they do have one. But I also worry if I wait till then, the gowns which I like may not be available anymore! haha...

Just to clarify, so your package include corsages as well as deco for the accompanying cars?
Is your WG MTM or OTR?
Is your wedding near? Have you met up with the florist? I know they have two florists tied up with them, 86 creation and poppy...just not very sure about the 86 creation one, the impression that the designer gave me was that they are not very creative but can do very good copies of other designs...

Hi Owlet,
Thanks! Like you, I went to several bridal place but I really like what SIL has.
My package includes the corsages and deco for bridal car. But for accompanying car, Rebecca offered to do up the ribbons if I get my own materials, it is a OTR-WG with a MTM-to-keep EG. Price also includes my bf suit which is MTM-to-keep. Seem like the price has increased is it?
My wedding is in Jan next year, I will visit 86 creations after this month then decide again. Poppy has beautiful flowers but Rebecca says it is very exp to top up while 86 creation is wholesale hence more affordable.
On gown wise, no worries cuz I think the gown will always be around. They made a few sets of them same gown.

Hi Nuahee,

One thing I realise at SIL is that they are quite different from the other BS. They don't seem to have a fixed package that is just stated on a piece of paper. My designer just ticked off the items which I will get, than at the end just quote me a price of $4.5k.

Is it the same with you?
It just makes me feel that their package is not "fixed" and that it may vary with different designer who quote it.

Hi Owlet, when I booked mine, it was under the Xmas promotion and it was already stated the items included within it.
Yes, they have the 'ticking' thing but price wise, I'm not sure as I didn't meet other designers. Usually they will remove just deduct off the initial price if you don't want certain items, like if you don't want make-up, they quoted me 300, last year.

Hi owlet, I guess if you're going to take OTR wedding gown, you probably gotta book that gown early cos my first choice gown was taken up by the time I went to sign up & its only a matter of 1-2 days. The package is flexible as you can just deduct off the package price like what nuahee said.

Hi nuahee, i used 86 creations for my flowers for photoshoot, its not too bad - just roses, forget me nots. She's also generous in giving me a bunch of different assortment for use - hair accessories. I may top up more on actual day, quoted about $40 to change to hydrangeas etc.

Hi Nuahee - Thanks for sharing. From your experience, Rebecca seems to be a nice lady. You heard of any feedback of Kenji?
Is your EG done? Can share?
happy.gif

Hi Pearl - Yes, I do think I will have to make up my mind about SIL fast if I want to take their OTR gown. My designer told me that the gowns which she gave me to try were from their recent wedding show. I didn't get to go to the wedding show, but from what I have tried, the gowns are beautiful! Do you know if anyone has pics from the wedding show to share?
Btw, will you be able to let me have a peek at your gown?
happy.gif

Hi Nuahee, I love your gown!

I love the sequined tulle gown, and will definitely get something like that when I go for my selection next month!

Now stressing about the evening gown... Sil doesn't have much evening dresses in the boutique for us to try on, so I'm really cracking my brains now! Anybody who has pictures of their EG made in Silhouette, please share please share!!! ;)

Hey Faylene, I just signed up as a fan of theirs a while ago, before I saw your reply. What a coincidence!

Nuahee, your gown is very nice! I love the glitter.

Hi Carebearz, not sure if you are still reading this thread. Sort of envy you that your designer has been so patient with you, you are really a lucky bride. I am not as lucky as u. I am aso a confused bride as I cannot decide what to do for my WG. Initally I wanted to choose something OTR but I didnt managed to find anything I like. During that time, their gown choices were so limited. So my designer suggested MTM a corded lace or embroidery top. MTM is very hard to visualise. During the gown fitting process, there was once I asked my designer to do some amendments, my designer sort of got fed up with me and slashed some nasty remarks back to me. She really made me feel like I am a 'pest' to her. I mean, I am only a confused bride, am not trying to be nasty. Now even I think of changing my WG top, I feel a bit apprehensive to go back to her. Is not a wonderful experience at all.

May I know who is your designer?

Hi peace_lover,

Sorry to hear about your experience..could it be a communication breakdown?

I just went for my EG fitting and I think my designer and my bf had a blast of a time laying out the lace on me while I stood there like a mannequin. My bf kept changing his mind about the lace placement and my poor designer had to keep pinning and un-pinning the lace.

Do PM me if you wanna chat.

Hi Carebearz,
Bet your EG must be gorgeous. Are you doing a cheongsam for your EG? Tried to PM you but you do not accept private message. Hmm, is there other way we can chat?

peace_lover

Nope, I didn't do a cheongsam though I would love to. But my bf doesn't like it; as I'm rather tanned for a Chinese so he said it makes me look either very Malay or very cheena.

I've just enabled my PM! Pls try again. Thanks.

I will be going
happy.gif
I just submitted my details to The Singapore Brides website. Not sure if they taken note of my attendance.. but just wondering, how do we pay for it? On the day itself or?

And I do have a query.. for Silhoutte, are we able to bargain for things? And if yes, what are the usuals that people bargain for?

I was quoted $4.5K for the package (OTR gown and MTM evening gown) excl photos.. is this price ok?

Hi Michelle,

I have got quotation from another Designer boutique for $4888 for (MTM Wedding gown, Evening gown with make up artist and bouquets with photos). However, still sourcing around to get the best deal and infact, clicking with the designer is also an important issue.

I think we could get a better price from the wedding show. Actually, can contact the hotel to show interest in their ballroom and get complimentary tickets to the show. That's what my friend did.

Hi nbu, I am going for the wedding show hoping to get a better price for the package..so yah..As for the wedding venue, I already booked Jan this year although my AD is next yr Oct
happy.gif

Which other designer boutique are you referring to? Maybe you could let me know? Thanks!

Hi All,I just took up a package witl Sil yday
happy.gif
Very happy. My designer is Minda. Just wondering to all the Sil brides, when you have confirmed the bridal gown you want, do they indicate on your receipt the gown that they kept for you or no? I am just worried that they might agree verbally the gown is already kept for me, but on the AD, i dont get the gown I wanted. Just a bit worried as I really like the gown alot... Thanks!

Hi Michelle, yes Sil's package for OTR WG and MTM EG is about $4.5k. I took that package too.

Have sorta decided on my WG and EG. Got to decide on the colour of my EG by next week though. Caroline says I should be able to go for first fitting by Nov/Dec. Excited!!!

Hey Pearl, just remembered you told me you were waiting for your pre-wedding shots sometime in Aug... So are they ready? How are they? Got sneak peek? Can share? Heehee sorry, so many questions... But really excited to see a fellow Sil's bride's photos!

I can't wait for my first fitting!!!

Hi Vespetine! Great to hear that!

My AD is next Oct..so I guess I will only start the design of my EG like early next yr? However, I have decided on my WG too
happy.gif

Hi Vespertine,

I have done my pre-wed photoshots...in fact, I am still deciding on the layout of my pictures....turn out pretty well...too many pictures I want to put in. haha..... so my photos are actually not really ready...PM you instead :P

What are in Sil's packages? I went down last week and was quoted $4.5k for a MTM beaded lace top tulle wedding dress (to rent) inclusive of hair and makeup (NO EG). I also don't think photography is included. I knocked it down to $3.5k (I don't think this includes hair and makeup) coz I bitched about how the price is not going to sit well with my OH (who is holding tightly onto the purse strings).

I'm looking for something like Monique Lhuillier's Swan Lake gown, which has no embellishment on the lace top. Yet the designer kept pushing me to get embellishments and referred to that dress with embellishments as my "dream dress" when my dream swan lake dress doesn't actually have any. I'm guessing she makes $$ from the embellishments coz how can she justify charging $3k - $5k for a simple tulle and lace gown? I don't want embellishments because I'm quite the DIY bling queen and can do it all myself. I want to bling the tulle all around the hem with the bling getting less dense as it goes up the skirt (I have a year so that is a feasible project for me).

I also don't understand why my OCCUPATION matters and yet it is in the form. My bridesmaid who went with me said she got the feeling that the designer was relunctant to quote for a gown without embellishment because she thinks I can afford it, asking me instead to go talk to my OH about giving me what I want, ie. her idea of my "dream dress" with the embellishments! I was quite annoyed. I don't like people telling me what I want when I have already made up my mind and just want a quote for that.

I found a bridal shop in Melbourne that does EXACTLY what I'm looking for for A$1,800, MTM! That's S$2.2k! I can spend the savings on a large bag of Swarovski crystals.

I hope everyone has a better experience and gets a better deal.

Hi MC, a basic OTR package with wedding gown; evening gown;suit; hair & make up; flowers cost about $4.5k, and with a MTM wedding gown, perhaps u're looking at about $6k...all these excluding photography.

the style of designers in Silhouette --- they are into blings & full lace..... so perhaps if you have already a ready design, you can scout around... perhaps go straight to tailors to get a quotation?

I have signed up before at another bridal shop...also requesting occupation and address etc...guess thats the normal practice here.

Personally, I do not think prices in Australia are cheaper.... I went to Sydney recently as I was hoping to get another evening gown at discounted prices.....it is easily about A$2k and above for a evening gown thats comparable to Silhouette's standard and its not even MTM. So for what I am paying for an evening gown in Silhouette, its certainly more worth it for me.

Pearl_Chin

Did you have to tell 86creation the type of flowers you want in your hair for the pre-wedding shoot? Or did they just give you extra flowers? Coz I went down to them and only finalised my bouquet for the pre-wedding but I forgot to tell them that I need some extra flowers for my hair as well. My MUA told me that they will auto give you when you collect the bouquet. So was wondering if I should call them but like to find out first so I don't get unnecessary charges. Thanks.

MC
For lace gowns, you'll be surprised at how expensive lace is. I went to Arab street to get some lace and whoa..the lace can cost from anything like S$55/metre to S$400/metre! The very first lace I picked up cost $390/meter!

I didn't know lace can get so expensive until now. And if you look at a dress, you may see the lace being more condensed say at the top and gradually fading out towards the skirt. The lace doesn't come like that usually, the seamstresses have to cut out the pattern on the lace and patch/sew it onto another piece of netting or a piece of base lace to create the look you want. The work that goes in is really exquisite and time-consuming.

If you look at say the mid-range boutiques like GHA, their lace dresses, you can see that they usually come in uniform patterns which means they didn't do any additional work on it.

Hi Carebearz,

Yes, I told 86 creations that I needed some flowers for my pre-wed photoshoot as I had a few hairdo and make up changes. She wrapped it up in a small bouquet with an assortment of flowers suitable for hair and to complement my hand bouquet. No charges for that :P
