Silhouette the Atelier

Hi Jasmine,

is the lace is a full lace gown? if it is, i think its quite worth it cos your package includes photography too...not too sure on how many photos are included as Silhouette ties up with different photographers and there are different packages all the time. I did not choose the tied up photography package though.

you can refer to the previous thread for my package details....

i think you can get kenji to throw in the free kua and accessories for you....they only have kua with embriodery and the accessories are the veil, sash (if required) and hair pieces, if I am not wrong

Hi Babyjah,

I guess I will just depend on Gin to see what suits me best....seen the natural make up that she did for my friend...its very nice on her...

hi pearl,

glad to meet you in this thread too! yup, it is a full lace gown...i think i won't be taking the PG package too..cause i wanna do my pre wedding with my AD PG (enghong from 39 east)...so after taking out 600 for the PG and adding 500 for lace, the final bill will be 4898..is it still worth it w/o photography?

by the way, do they have tea dresses/short cheongsams? was wondering if i can get that instead of the kua..

Jasmine, if you are interested in lace, can check out kevin seah & margaret brides. they specialise in lace. can see their pricing and compare..

Silhouette MTM their tea dresses, so cannot rent. it's usually MTM to keep for their brides =)

Hi Jasmine, yah...glad to see you here
happy.gif
I guess if thats really a gown that you like.....then go for it! I chose a tulle gown so I am not too sure about the pricing but my guess is that a full lace gown should be more expensive. I thought the photography package starts from $1000? Maybe its a different promotion. Evening gowns are also MTM to keep. I guess it also depends on whether you are comfortable with Silhouette...I made a mistake previously by signing up with another boutique and so far, I am very happy with Silhouette
happy.gif

Hi Pearl Chin, u also chose a tulle gown?? Haha Same as me. I will be wearing a tulle gown though I havent decide the top though. How does your tulle gown looks like? Same as u, I am happy with the service Silhoutte and my designer provides so far.

hi pearl,

talking about being comfortable, i don't know if it was because i went in without an appt..i felt that the other designers weren't very friendly...kenji was fine, maybe not over friendly but he was being professional though..i'm still glad he attended to me.

on the side note, i initially placed a deposit for a vera wang gown in the states...after seeing that silhouette lace gown, i'm not even sure that i still want it...much less than being able to take back my deposit. i regretted putting the deposit..now, i'm just giving Silhouette much thought before signing...I really dun wanna spend more and more money.

btw, who is your coordinator? any reviews about kenji?

Hi peacelover,

my top will be corded lace, the tulle is with sequins....yah...I initially wanted a full lace gown but I realised I dun look good in it after trying so I took on Caroline's suggestion.

Hi Jasmine,

ohhh...I usually make an appt before going down to see Caroline as she's quite packed...though at the very last minute but she's very accomodating
happy.gif
I think I only placed my deposit on the 3rd time visiting Silhouette after trying the gowns. So maybe just go there and try one more time?

thanks pearl!

i'm probably going down to place my deposit next week..hopefully the dress is still there...dun wanna pay another 1000 more just to mtm sthg similar. ;) i'm praying hard

actually, i'm more comfortable with a lady..but i feel bad cause kenji did serve me well.. :|

jasmine / pearl> is Silhouette flexible in terms of giving more stuffs or maybe replacing the items in their 'standard package'? I'm just for looking AD stuffs and wouldn't need pre-wed PS.

Hi anticipate, the standard package does not come with pre-wed PS. You have to tie up with the photographers yourself. However, every now and then, they tie up with different photographers and have a different promo. I did not choose a pre-wed PS tie up with them. So, I guess its all for AD, maybe can take out the studio make up, 1 bouquet and reduce a little for you.

Hi Jasmine, hopefully your dress is there! Oh no....then what's going to happen to your deposit? Any refund? I think my deposit with another bridal studio is also gone....I gotta top up another $1k on top of my deposit just to loan a tux and kua if I want to make use of the deposit

pearl> ohh... i see... Thanks pearl! May I know how much your package cost? Or perhaps the price range for their standard package cos I don't want to spend too much...

Anticipate: $4.7k. I think the standard package is about $3.8k and above, should include a WG, EG, Suit, flowers and make up

Jasmine: oh...you can also consider Dang Bridal....I actually love the fitting and tulle gowns there too....but the price tag is higher than Silhouette after adding what I wanted.

Hi everyone,
I paid 4.2K for my package which includes a OTR tulle gown, MTM EG, Suit, Flowers, Makeup and rental of kua. It's supposed to be cheaper during year end where they have Xmas packages. So if your wedding isn't that soon, perhaps you may want to wait till year end?
happy.gif

anticipate - i top up to a tuxedo, my tulle gown is OTR but change the top to corded lace so if you take out the "extras", should be about $4.3k.

Hi all,

Just to share my experience. I had been to silhouette more then a year ago in end Dec 2007 with a friend BTB, and has loved their gowns since. Hence, I had very high hopes on them when I made an appointment with them recently for my own wedding. However, I was very disappointed that the designer wasn't very keen to attend to us. We were "guided" to the door punctually at 7pm, before I finished my queries. We were there for less then an hour. I would have placed a deposit had I not been shown the door. Really disappointed, because when I enquired about the availability of the OTR gowns 2 weeks later, I was told that the 2 designs which I liked had been taken. It doesn't really make sense to me because the designs were featured in magazine, published for a period of time (abt 2 mths) before I went to try, were still available, and when I enquired again (in only 2wks time), had been taken up. I can't help feeling that it's a sales tactic for MTM gowns where I'll have to top up additional $1500 for the gown I liked (During the appointment, I was quoted $1000 for top up to MTM).

Just my 2 cents worth of thought.

Hi Joann,

Who served you at Silhouette?
I think the availability of gowns really depends on few factors as there's alot of brides visiting them, and perhaps the gowns are already taken by the time you have really decided on it?

Hey Joann,

So sorry to hear the unpleasant experience u had with them.

hmm, for what i know is that Silhouette would keep aside the gowns for brides who had confirmed with them, so that there won't be any repeated designs. And certain range is classified as premium range, where additional costs is required.

Somemore, prior to publish in the magazine, the designs would be available on the shelf, so that could be more than 2 months.

Perhaps just a benefit of doubt that other brides had also eyed on the same designs, and moreover there are quite a number of weddings this year.

Hi,

Glamourous> I'll PM you the name of person who served me.

octus> Thanks for your empathy. I had also thought there will not be repeated designs. But for that 1st hand OTR gown which I tried and was interested, I subsequently saw it featured in a photographer's website/portfolio. I hence decided to enquire with Silhouette before I make another appointment with them, and to my surprise, I was told that there are 3 pieces of that design!!! And as the piece I tried was the last available and was taken already, they can MTM for me if I like, at additional $1500, with a different design for the top. I was really shocked. Why would I pay additional $1500 for a gown which is the 4th in it's design (although the top can be different)?

Haiz.. I am simply not keen to go for that design anymore, knowing it's gona be "another one".. as the design of the train is really too clearly a signature that a "2nd new piece" is as good as "the same old piece", if you know what I mean.

Hi Joann,

oh my.. I'm quite surprised that Silhouette did 3 pieces of the same design. But I have seen different brides wearing a very distinct gown -also one with a signature train, not sure if its the one you saw.

When I was there last Dec, although my package is OTR, Rebecca told me that I could change the design of the top after I chose my train which is what I am doing. Hence, I found it strange that they offered to MTM for you at additional cost. Not a pleasant offer. I'll be upset too cuz it doesn't sound very reasonable.

Shopping for gowns should be a happy experience. Hope you'll find THE gown soon. =)

Hi Joann,
i agree... not so worthwhile for paying extra for something pretty similar..
So where have you shop for your wedding gowns? if you like tulle, maybe u can check with The Wedding Present?
I'm making one more gown with Ted Collection (Initially i tot is the same as Ted Wu but it's another shop). They MTM gowns too. Maybe you can check out too. Nice and friendly designer =)

May you find your desired wedding gowns

Hmmm...Honestly, I'm sure gown designs are often repeated and recycled and swapped around in portions.

It really doesnt matter whether someone has worn it before or another bride has it. Whichever dress worn on a different person will bring out the dress in a different look. So as long as you love it, you love great in it and you will still love it 10 or 20 yrs down the road.

Same for me, I took OTR with Kenji, he change the entire top and recycled a skirt from another OTR dress. All this with no additional charge.

Hi BTBs,

I'm considering Silhouette too! I tried on their tulle gown and yes! it is THE GOWN.
Was attended by Rebecca. She is young, trendy and cool. She dun hard-sell. She listen carefully and really does knows what I want! She even ask my fiance on how well my gown is on me.

Initially i'm looking for duchess satin gown but after trying on a few tulle gowns in Sil, my finance likes me in Tulle gown more. the big tulle ballgown makes me look like a princess bride.

Gals, just a check. Does any of you need to top up $ for dry cleaning of MTM wedding gown after PS? i was told of this recently, and was shocked that free dry-cleaning is only for OTR gowns. I paid a premium for MTM already, now i have to top up more if i want it clean after PS!

Joann,

Sorry to hear about your experience but I got the complete opposite treatment from you. I really wanted a MTM but Caroline urged me to get OTR instead as she said no point spending so much money on a gown that you're gonna wear for just a few hours.

As my thinking is more westernised and also coz their OTR gowns are so small, I really love to keep the gown so I'm going for the MTM top but getting a OTR skirt. But as the top-up to keep the gown is pretty hefty, I'm waiting to see if I'll get come into extra money somemore (toto!) to buy the gown! haha.

And I agree with juztea, I do think Sil has several quantities of the same skirt. The skirt that I'm going for comes with silver embroidery at the bottom and I saw 3 gowns with the same skirt when I visited Sil. If you really love the gown, just go for it. Maybe consider MTM the top, which is what I'm gonna do. After all, even if you buy brand names like Vera Wang, Kenneth Poole and Monique Lhuiller, they produce their gowns in 'large' quantities as well. I think we can only resigned ourselves to wearing 'similar gowns' unless we can fork out top dollar for the designers to specially design the gown for us.

BS such as The Wedding Present and Golden Horse usually have 'fixed' patterns of laces, embroidery etc which you can choose and mix and match to complete the whole gown.
Which in the end, will still turn out to be similar to what other brides are wearing. My thinking is as long as you don't run into another bride wearing a similar dress on your big day, I'm cool
happy.gif

carebearz> well said. i think SIL have few similar designs only, not exact duplicates. personally i ask if i can MTM a same EG, they said usually they won't duplicate but will change a bit here and there only.

jacqie> not that i know of the dry cleaning part. its included in the package i supposed.

joann> so sorry to hear your bad experience. Hope you can find your ideal bridal shop soon
happy.gif

carebearz> agree with you. I was also urged by Caroline not to MTM wedding gown but get OTR skirt and MTM top
happy.gif
To add on, it only makes economic sense for most bridal shops to buy the embellishments, laces etc in bulk or to go to the few familiar suppliers. Alternatively, I guess you can always buy your lace / other materials elsewhere and have them to sew it on for you to create something different.

Jacqie> I remembered that dry-cleaning costs for the gown costs less than $80 and Silhouette will pass us the dry-cleaning c/o's receipt. Do you know how much is it? I think mine is 1 time free?

hello girls

Has anyone of you gotten down to florist selection already? Did you really visit both Poppy & 86 creations before making a decision , i think it would be such a hassle to visit them both before deciding.

Any idea who is better and has nicer arrangements?

Any advice would be most appreciated.

Thank you!

Caroline recommended 86creations as she said they will be much cheaper. She said just need to give them pictures of the flower bouquet that you have in mind and they can copy really well for you.

BTW, does anyone here have any tip to give on visiting the toilet with such a huge tulle gown?

ladies, may i know if SIL will have different promo with photography every mth? coz i am very tempted to sign up with them this mth given they have lighted pixel tied up. but im scared i may be very chong dong coz i have not met any1 in lighted pixel.

if its without the photography, is the standard package only 3.8k?

babypie> I was quoted at 3.8k without photography, without the tulle gown/full laced gown. In Feb/Mar, I think it was a tie up with Portraits (by Kelvin)and one or two others which I have forgotten.

Hi CareBearz

Thanks for your advice! The thing is I haven done much research and have no idea what I am looking for. haha Guess it's time to get started...headache!

hi pearl, me too! i will probably meet with my PG closer to date to discuss on the locations
happy.gif

when will ur pre-wed be? i will be having mine in June...

lala> i have not decided when the pre-wed photography session will be too...most likely in July...to have enough time before AD in Nov. First fitting only in Mid May, so I will plan after that
happy.gif

Hi Dino,

There are a few designers in Silhouette and I believe each one of them has got their own expertise and preferences. From what I see, there are alot of tulle gowns, fully laced gowns and embriodery/beading type ones available. Perhaps you can give them a call @ 67337197 to find out more.

I need suggestions on the type of car that the tulle gown can fit in.

I'm wondering if I can fit into into a Honda Civic with my big tulle gown with the big can-can. Or do I need to rent a London cab? Thanks.

Hi lala (twinklebride)

I have something to ask you, is it convenient for you to PM me? I tried to PM you but you don't accept PM.

Thanks ya!

i went sil last week and the people there are so nice. they let me try at least 6 gowns and we (my hub and i) love at least 2. now thinking of sil, ted wu and amanda lee.

i got a question here. sil let me try a long veil with a very nice design as the gown was too plain. it looked nice in the mirror but the fact is, i'm only 1.50m. will a long veil AND a ballgown be too overwhelming for me?

I was also at SIL last week. Get to try on 7 of their gowns
happy.gif

I love their tulle gowns, but have to top up $800, gotta start saving.
I also tried on an A line laced gown, and wore a long veil. It's a totally different feel with the long veil and train..

carebearz> think should be ok...try on your pre-wed photoshoot day? My tulle gown is also rather big and I shall just squeeze myself into the car
happy.gif

iluvpurin> a long veil and ballgown is not overwhelming but more imptly whether you like the gown and feel good in it...

I wanna wear a long veil too but I dun look good in it...

melissa> I love a long train and long veil too...but with a tulle gown, I think a shorter veil on me looks much better.

Yeah, the long veil can only go with a simpler A-line gown, not a big ball gown.
Pearl Chin- How does your tulle gown top look like? Are there any embriodery?

melissa > the people at sil are really generous with people trying on their gowns. that 6 i tried are mostly quite loose on me cos i'm so petite, hard to find something that fit.. except for 3 that are slightly better fitted. i wanted to try one of them on the rack, but minda said i will be swimming in the gown lol. if only i'm bigger sized, then i will be able to try more gowns lol.

melissa> my top is lace...no embroidery

iluvpurin> lucky you! the gowns that I tried are abit too tight for me....if you like the overall look for it, just go for it
happy.gif

Yeah. Silhouette open another outlet at Amoy.
Very happy just behind my workplace, easy to go for fitting and pick up the dress for the wedding. Hehehe...

yes yes, there's a new outlet at amoy and they are running a promotion now.

i still prefer their current location cos it's just one street away from my office.

till now, i'm still thinking of sil tulle gown and the long veil.....
