hi mookie22,
did you like the sil gowns? yah, i understand how you feel about financial constraints... and it's wise not to put oneself into debts because of the 'so-call' dream wedding.
happy.gif

i think Sil rent ready made gowns as well... if you would want to cut costs, that can be a consideration...

what is your budget for the photo package? the initial feeling from Wesley is that it is costly, but Jodie tried to accomodate my budget and came up with a comprehensive package which was very reasonable... if you really like them, you can tell them your budget and see what Jodie can suggest.

but wedding is a once in a lifetime thingy... make sure you are happy, enjoy your preparation and look forward to a new life ahead!

Hi everyone. I was a Sil bride too. My wedding was in June and my designer was Heath. We had a wonderful time with Silhouette, and though the price was higher than other places, we had no regrets whatsoever. Heath made me a most elegant and unique evening gown that everyone is still talking about! My husband's favourite pants now is the one made by Silhouette too.

Our photographer was Robin and we loved all the pictures. We had trouble choosing the 20+ that were to go into our album, but because he returned everything, we did not feel so bad. Our friends liked the very relaxed and comfortable feel of our photos.

Hi LYY,
thks for ur advice. yes, i did like sil's gowns. i'm keeping my options open cos three other BS that i shortlisted range between $4,000 to $4,500 (with slight diff in packages), one of which i'm pretty impressed with.

after discussing with my FH & parents, i think we will be having a relatively simple mid-sized wedding. so, i think will try to relax & not go overboard with planning a "dream wedding". decent banquet venue & beautiful gowns for me, good food for family & guests & hopefully happy memories.

Yap Mookie22, the most important thing that the wedding is special to you and people who are important to you... i do not believe in inviting people who i'm do not know very well, have a big crowd, and you do not even know half of the guests who are present!

$4000 - $4500, if this price includes the photography, it is consider cheap, but make sure there is no hidden costs. Some bridal shops add on to your price without letting you know and give you a huge bill at the end. ALso, for photography, check if they charge for extra rolls of film because that can add on to your cost, also, check how much if you want an extra photo developed... cos' i know some charge about $80 to $100 just for an extra photo.

Meanwhile, happy shopping... when is your wedding?

cheers!

the other BS i've shortlisted include Dang, Jawn & LG, which do not have any reputation for hidden costs. so, i just need to factor in cost of additional photos. so far, i have only checked out photospace's studio & prices. barnabas's prices are quite reasonable cos he does not charge on a per pc basis for collages, just per page. haven't checked the rest yet.

my wedding will be on 5 June 04. still scouting for venues, arghhhh ...

Hi Jasmin,
If you like sexy kind, you just need to let your designer know...I believe that all 3 of them can give you what you want....alot depends on how you "click" with them... I would say they have no fixed style...they really cater to a bride's needs and try to make your dream gown come true...

what kind of venues are you looking for?

there are a lot of hotels on promotion now... like Marriot for wedding lunch reception is $488 nett, but you have to book now. Raffles the Plaza (former Westin) wedding lunch is alo about $530 nett... i think wedding lunch are cheaper... not sure about the dinners, but the hotel line is very badly during the SARS period, so they are very negotiable. Oh, heard that Sheraton Hotel also having a promotion right now...

go and check them out.

Hey Jaslyn!

Muffin here! Can you also email me the package?

So you went with Miah? Is it embarassing to work with a male designer? Am afraid if I'm going to discuss about my body shape with a guy-person...

hi,
I wonder is there any hidden costs for Sil? Can anyone please share with me. Is that true we have to pay for own dry cleaning costs? do they loan accessories to you, including AD? Please help as I'm keen on signing up with them

Hi Eggie,

I won't say that the dry cleaning costs is a hidden costs as Sil told us upfront that we need to bear the expenses before we signed the contract.

Yes they do lend out accessories.

hi odie,
mind sharing with me what other costs we need to take care of on top of what we need to pay in the package? So for dry-cleaning, do we need to pay for both the PS and AD? How much does it costs?

Personally I like Sil's gown a lot and thinking of signing up with them. Since the package is already expensive for me, I'm worried that it'll blow away my budget if there are other costs that I need to cater for. Thanks a lot if ppl in the forum can advice me.

Hi Eggie,

Was quoted $50 for the dry cleaning... but did not get furher details. I assumed that it is $50 for piece, separate occasions. Anyway their gowns are really nice so didn't really bother me too much where dry cleaning costs is concerned. Why not check with Silhouette on this?

hi odie,

I am a silhouette Bride too customary in Nov, me and my hubby find minda very nice and professional! so far there's no hidden cost that we are aware of...But she did quote us $50 for the dry cleaning too I think its usual since we use our actual gown during photoshoot sure will dirty it naturally need to dry clean it ready for our actual day right.

she will try to fulfil our wish if within her limit. She did loan me suitable accessories to match my gowns during photoshoot, but i am not sure she will loan to me during my actual day. Anyway on my actual day I will have my own jewellery to wear and my SIL lend me her tiara so dun really need much accessories from Silhouette.

I was Sil bride, and no regrets!!!
As far as I recall, the price they quote is that, they won't ask you for any more money! They are not the kuching kurak (don't know if I spell correctly!) shops trying to fleece you. Basically they will give you a form for you to write down your budget and they will meet that accordingly. Make an appt and talk to Minda. She's good. We had full confidence in her and left her to take care of all the stuff, their bouquets turned out nice, so did the car deco. If price is a big factor, you can opt for their off the rack and make some modifications to the gowns. They don't have OTR EG cos they don't want to keep them as all brides have different tastes. They wl loan you stuff like tiara, ties, vest (of course also depending if there is someone else who already reserved before you.) But they are pretty helpful, no qualms about that. I didn't use their jewellery.

Celine,
Silhouette will also lend you accessories for actual day, but you have to tell Minda to reserve them for you.

hi girls,
thanks a lot for your assurance of Sil's quality and service. I really feel that I'll be in good hands. I actually had spoken to them and tried on the gowns and like it very much. Hope to be one of their happy bride too.

hi styloBB,
I had spotted a OTR WG that I like. I was thinking of OTR EG but I think there is not much choices too. Wondering if there is any other ways to reduce cost since my budget really tight? Is signing up with photographer on our own is cheaper?

Hi eggie,

I'm also a silhouette bride. So far, experience with my designer minda has been good.

It's better to sign up with photographer thru the boutique, if you go to photographers on your own, they typically charge u more.

Hi eggie
Sorry! I didn't see your message here. If you have your own photographer, it's perfectly ok to use him, you just tell Sil and they will deduct the amount from the quoted package, ie they will charge you based on the gowns& other stuff. They don't have much OTR EG as I understand most brides have our EG MTM. Btw the OTR WG, you can request for modifications eg laces, beading, etc.

Hi BB,

I was there yesterday. The gowns are selling at reasonable prices. I saw several gowns priced between $120 to $200. Some more elaborate gowns are priced higher. Do note they do not do alterations but will recommend seamstress if you need.

Hi puppy,

What about their evening gown? Any tea dresses?
As for the elaborate gowns, how high can the price go? Are the gowns old?

Btw, where can you get to see the gowns? Do I have to make appointment or I can just drop by at the shop? Would I be free to browse around?

Hee hee...sorry for bombarding you with so many questions!

Hi BB,

There were only a few evening gowns. Some were just tops and a few cheong sums. I do not recall seeing tea dresses. I did not check the prices of the elaborate gowns but the one I tried on was quoted at $420. Those gowns are not new but I do not how old they are. You can see stains on some of them but I think can remove.

The gowns are placed on a few racks in the shop. No need to make appt. There was a designer who attended to me but you are free to take any gown to try.

Are you intending to go for 'ala carte' kind of wedding preparation? Or have you not booked a bridal package?

Hi BB,
No worries )

I almost wanted to do it 'ala carte' style after trying on the gown at Sil. But decided for 'set menu' cos afraid I will overbudget.

Have a good day!

Hi All,
Just had my wedding on 13th December 2003! It was an extremely wonderful experience and i want to say Minda at Sil played an important part in making that possible... I am very satisfied with their service and really glad that I used her as my designer.
She is very consultative, allow you to engage in the designing process together, making the gown reflective of who you are rather than just any bridal gown. I am very impressed with their services, from the gown to the flowers, corsages, car decor to the accessories (at no extra charge or rental fee - normally other boutiques charge rental). It is really a pleasant experience and I cannot help but give a testimony about her services.
I would recommend anyone who are looking for a bridal gown to use their services!

Cheers!
if you need to contact me for further information, can email at [email protected]

hi aureus,

I am an ex-sil bride. i have been reading the past theads however i cannot recall any major bad remarks about them. in any case, my own experience have been excellent, my gown design is really lovely, no problem with make up and car deco. i suppose you have to see the sil ppl yourself to make an "informed" decision cos pple might have a different perspective of what is good and bad.....

aureus,
as far as I know, I have not heard such comments about Silhouette. I was a Sil bride too and as you go through the design, fitting stages, you can see that your gown is made for you! You will be fitted before it is even completed, with all the tacking still in etc.

As for hard sell and pushy people, I think Sil is one of the LEAST pushy bridal shops. Did you encounter any pushy pple at Silhouette?

aureus

Hi Priviledged..

thanks for you tip too
happy.gif

nope..havent stepped in as yet...but the comments were from some friends who went to the bs in IMM building and eventually signed up with one of them there...they were pushy, and they kept increasing their pricing from the package, and also, promised them sth but in the end, they kept changing it and so on...dunno how come they didnt check the contract properly or sth like that, so they were very annoyed and were telling us never to go to that bridal shop....

sighz...just made me worried i guess...dunno much about all these shop things...so must check with ex sil brides..

may i ask all ex-sil brides how much an average package was, and what it consisted of etc...

Priviledged, may i ask if i could have a view of your WG?

thanks

hi aureus,

silhoutte is located at stamford house perhaps your friends got the wrong bs. sil ppl are not pushy at all, most of their wg are mtm so definitely have to be fitted..they will even fit you 3 days before your wedding to make sure that the size is ok..
