Recommended brand for fridge,TV & Washing Machine?

Hi Ridz,

Saw the URL; i have a better idea than before, when I was totally clueless.

If the budget is not considered, but I want the following aspects to be fulfilled, besides Electrolux, is there any other brand u would recommend or any other pts I should look out for while choosing washing machine ?

1. Adjustable water levels to determine level of water for the amt of clothes loaded - save water consumption;
2. Adjustable spin speed function for the various cloth materials;
3. Ability to wash heavy material like quilt;
4. Long-lasting/warranty;
5. Less energy consumption;
6. Good washing and rinsing performance;
7. Child safety lock;
8. Stainless steel drum;
9. Efficient and Quiet wash;

What is the adjustable thermostat for ?

hi natasha,

if budget is seriously not considered then others like bosch and brandt are some of the other brands that you could consider and also thomson

if you are looking for toploading machines but washing using continental style of washing then opt for thomson.

but if seriosuly you are a perfectionist then consider miele. this is the best washing machine. but be warned prices start from 3000 and above.

with regards to your queries.
1. Adjustable water levels to determine level of water for the amt of clothes loaded - save water consumption; this is what in most machines what they call automatic variable capacity. most of the continental washers comes with this
2. Adjustable spin speed function for the various cloth materials; yes this is again a standard unless you get the cheaper models then its fixed at say 500 rpm or so. and its best to get something that can spin at least 850 and if you are getting a dryer especially. then go for 1000rpm and above is possible.
3. Ability to wash heavy material like quilt; depending on capacity of the washer. please bear in mind that usually a typical 6.5kg washer can the most squeeze in about queen sized quilts. i am talking about quilts here and not the covers yeah. but seriously speaking quilts are better off washed by the laundromat.
4. Long-lasting/warranty; for most its standard 1 year. but if you buy from superstores then you can opt in for the extended warranty. long lasting wise if you dun mind then miele. their machines have been tested to last at least 20 years. go to this website to look at their testing, the machine is still working fine.. http://www.miele-durability-test.com

5. Less energy consumption; yes most continental washers generally consume about 300watts for cold wash and for their 60 degrees wash would consume only about 1.05kwh electricity.
6. Good washing and rinsing performance; yup continental is for you
7. Child safety lock; yes definitely
8. Stainless steel drum; most of it. though some is made from other mix of metals.
9. Efficient and Quiet wash yes they are efficient. uses generall between 42-52 litres of water for entire wash and rinses altogether.

Hello Ridz,

Wow, u r actually very knowledgeable about all this kinda stuff....I know nothing much abt this...ha ha ha. Thanks again for ur advise.

Just a few clarifications before I end :

1. When u say continental washers, I believe u r referring to eurpoean brands like electrolux, thomson, bosch and brandt. Is it so ?

2. Does it really matter where the washing machines are made ?

3. Abt the latch on the drum for top-loads, if that is made in plastic, it will be more suspectible to breaking, right ? So would it be better to get it in metal for the latch ?

4. If the drum has more holes, does it mean that the rinsing performance is much better ? If so, which continental brand offers that or are the brands (thomson/brandt, electrolux, bosch) almost the same ?

Thanks again

Hi ridz,

Any idea how diff is the new thomson washer compared to 828/838? You've got the price range as well?

hi stacy,

from what i gather not too sure though cos the catalogue they are sending to me i on the way. usually arrives in 2 weeks' time.

haiz anyway.
they are not different from the existing ones.

such that the 828 specs will be brough forward to the 928 if i am not wrong and 838 will be brought over to 938.

specs wise they are almost i would identical with the exception of addition in features namely,

1) there is another special program so that it will not stretch your clothes during the wash and spin.

2) the other featuere that is added is the delay timer feature.

3) the control panel has been given a new facelift.

4) the controls are no longer mechanical types. but electronic controls.

mechanical works on a timer basis where you wind it further from the end cycle to indicate a longer washing time but electronic is just that the buttons you turn to whichever cycle you want it to be and it will automatically adjust the washing times etc based on the load that it electronically senses.

prices range is slightly higher if i am not wrong by a couple of hundred only.

and also they bringing in the front load washers again.

priced i think around 1499 spin speed of about 1400rpm with washing load of 7 if i am not wrong.

Hi ridz,

tks for the info....

wow, for 7kg and such high spin speed...i suppose its costly as well. Think better to stick to 928/938..heee
Tks

hi stacey,

latest news about the new range of thomson. finally the catalogue has arrived. refer to my another thread on THOMSON WASHER and DRYER

hi natasha,.

sorry ah i copy n paste... ok hee

Wow, u r actually very knowledgeable about all this kinda stuff....I know nothing much abt this...ha ha ha. Thanks again for ur advise.

nay not a problem actually. not a big deal.

Just a few clarifications before I end :

1. When u say continental washers, I believe u r referring to eurpoean brands like electrolux, thomson, bosch and brandt. Is it so ?

yes taht would be correct

2. Does it really matter where the washing machines are made ?

to a certain extent its somewhat crucial. imagine if electrolux is made in thailand vs made in china you would pick the one from thailand cos the workmanship is better,

or compare brandt made in turkey vs thomson made in france i would opt for thomson made in france even if it costs more.

3. Abt the latch on the drum for top-loads, if that is made in plastic, it will be more suspectible to breaking, right ? So would it be better to get it in metal for the latch ?

to some extent it would be better to get metal ones of course. but so far the thomson machines that i have all the latched are plastic of late and they dun seem to have much of a problem. so yeah not to worry the ones that i really really is that one to that of the front loads cos they are generally more exposed out as compared to top loads.

4. If the drum has more holes, does it mean that the rinsing performance is much better ? If so, which continental brand offers that or are the brands (thomson/brandt, electrolux, bosch) almost the same ?

that may be true but then again many more holes may lead to higher thread count loss. so yeah..

i give you a picture.

By reducing the size and number of water exit holes, there is virtually no chance your clothes will be damaged from snags against the steel holes.

As demonstrated in the images the top left picture shows a terry cloth bath towel at high spin speed actually penetrating the water exit holes of the washing drum.

When this happens, over time, the fabric will begin to develop pilling. This wears down the integrity of the material.

The revolutionary HoneycombTM washing drum (shown right) is washing the same towel, spinning at the same speed and shows virtually no penetration of the towel.

This is made possible by the patented honeycomb pattern which hinders the clothes from reaching the water exit holes—which are nestled deep inside the water channels.

This design allows for thorough washing results and effective water extraction that have been proven to be gentler than hand washing.

so there you have it, not necessarily that the bigger the holes the better yeah?

but if you compare across the board then yeah thomson electolux and brand and bosch are on the same level but a higher end one like MIELE then its ultimate thas why its call MIELE the ultimate washing machine and forever better not to mention everything else is a compromise. i totally agree with them

hi ridz,

if i intend to get a dryer, would it better to get it with washer cum dryer or as a separate entity ?

I will only probably wash clothes once or twice a week. In that case, is it good to get a washer cum dryer or buy it separately ?

In addition, which would consume more electricity/energy ? separate dryer or combined washer cum dryer ?

I also heard that if we buy washer cum dryer, the dryer could only function to half of the wash load. So if the washer is meant for 6kg, I could only dry clothes which are up to 3 kg. So the drying process for the same wt would happen twice, am i right ? What is the normal drying time required - any auto sensing period ?

And which dryer would u recommend ?

As for the washer, if a washer has got a min rpm of 100, is that good enough for delicate material ? Or what should be the min rpm for delicate wash ?

hi natasha,

let me try to explain things to you one by one alright.

First if you intend to get a dryer would i be better with a washer dryer or a dryer itself.

well i must say that things are better is they are specialised in that particular thing that they are made to. eg washer peform washing better than washer dryer. dryer perform drying better than washer dryer. its subject.

what you could consider is that the space that you have for an additional dryer.

then consider the costs

and also the usage. does it call for a washer dryer or a washer and a seperate dryer.

if you are saying about once or twice a week. then it would be alright to get a washer-dryer but i personally prefer to get a washer and a dryer seperately.

in terms of consumptions of course a seperate washer and a seperater dryer when you combine their total power consuymption to do a say 6kg laundry would be slightly lower than when you use the washer dryer to perform the same 6kg load.

also for the part on the half load. yes tou can wash up to 6kg but when you dry you gotta take out half so that the load is only around 3kg.

and normally the washer-dryer for the drying it usually is not auto sensing. i will check for you around but they are usually on a timer basis. and the last time i had a washer dryer each 3kg load took around alomost 100mins to dry so to dry 6kg load it will take around 200 mins and add trhat to the washing time of about 90 mins so total time taken is 290 mins to wash a 6kjg load and to dry the entire load.

if you are getting a seperate dryer which would i recommend. erm.. i would say go for MIELE. but of course thats a bit exhorbitant.

well then the next thing would be what is the capacity that you would look for.

i would say thomson is strictly for 5kg max is like 6kg but then it will not come out nice.

electrolux on the other hand also same strictly for 5kg load but the drum is big enough to take around 8kg of load at one go.

and thomson is a bit more pricey around 850 for their dryer. while electrolux is 729.

both are auto sensing

thomson TD88 is top loading while electrolux EDE 429 is front loading.

so depends. but if you want condenser dryer for a 6kg dryer then you gotta go for BOSCH. cos only bosch in the market at the moment apart from MIELE carries condenser dryer. the rest thomson brandt, electrolux are all air vented ones.

for washer min rpm is 100 rpm.. its only good for like maybe you wash wool or something like that,. but rarely you would need 100 rpm usually at leats also 500 like for silk so it i think 500 would be alright not to high. higher than that could break the fibres.

also you asked in another post for jeans.

on the contrary materials like jeans should also not be spun at higher than say 1000 cos the fibres will also break so usually cotton clothings are more suitable for such >1000 rpm kinda spinning

Hi Ridz,

In comparison of Electrolux, Whirlpool, Bosch and Thomson, how would u rate, with ur perception and knowledge abt the washers (just wanna know ur opinion).

oops sorry,

missed the question earlier on.

its hard to compare like that across the board cos the prices are different due to its design for example thomson washer is mostly top loads and they are slim but packed with loads of features hence premium prices.

while the design of front loads is such that it would be able to have a lot more space hence the miniaturisation does not affect that much hence the price is not exactly that pricey.

but just a preference on brand would be

Thomson then electrlux and bosch same position and finally whirpool would be the bottom.

reliability thomson and electrolux and bosch is excellent so far. but whirlpool a bit not confirmed.

but if you are looking for features and reliability then electrolux is the one for you. the prices is competitive as compared to thomson.

for top loads you can consider bosch cos from what i gathered. bosch top load, they outsource it for thomson to do it for them. hence construction wise is about the same however not all the features found in thomson can be found in bosch.

Thanks Ridz, that was helpful. I was contemplating on choosing Electrolux as u say, but my friend was stimulating interest on whirlpool and it's 6th sense feature embedded in the new machine.

Anyway, would Sharp p47n be a better choice over Fisher & Paykel E411T in terms of storage space, longeivity, withstanding nature & freshness of food ? What abt energy consumption ?

Ridz,

What abt brandt washing machines for hot & cold wash? What model would u recommend for it ? Is this brand on par with Electrolux ?

hi all
i need some advises on fridge..

i actually went to Harvey norman and wanted to purchase F&P E440T. as in this forum, a lot of ppl say F&P fridge is the most energy saving. Even based on NEEC website, it seem to be too.
but the saleman actually told us F&P fridge is not energy saving. he said that F&P fridge have this active dunno wat sys which actually activate the compressor whenever u open the door. thus it consume more energy.
and NEEC rating is only based on the energy consume when u nv open the door.
and the quality of the F&P fridge is not gd. he demo how easily the rubber got tear off on the fridge?
then he recommended us on the mit MR-F45 fridge which is actually much lower price than F&P?
and he said is much better in energy saving (not true if u see the NEEC energy comparison btw both fridge)
and he say the quality of mit fridge is beta than F&P.

pls advise on his comments
thanks

SC... think u r wrong. Audio house unable to gave the BEST PRICE... only Harvey Norman or outside Dealer shop can gave the best price... Believe me...

My electrolux washing machine spoilt (drum and leaks water) after using for 1.5 years. And I'm light user, washing only twice a week. It's in my blacklist now.

Ask them to come repair, they say $40 transport, $120 transport and $300 for the drum. Grrrr...might as well buy new one...

comparing between Samsung and Thomson for washing machine... any comments??

F&P washing machine is totally out for me cos my mom has it in her house and it spoils her clothes... it's the one with the rod in the centre...

hmmm.. well comparing samsung and Thomson machine its like cmoparing pierre cardin with LV wahah.

Well i would go for Thomson. But then again you are looking at front load or top load machines ( i mean continental style of washing)

Hi ridz, i new here. I am looing for 8kg front load washing machine. Which one would you recommend.

Kindly advise on samsung wf8804 and wd8804cja, electrolux ewf8586.

Highly depends on your budget and of course washing needs and of course your future requirements. E.g. Intending to get a dryer, then best to get with higher spin speed.

My personal preference would be with electrolux and bosch. U can try look see the new bosch range. Not too bad.

Budget could help you set the right path onwards

hi

am thinking of getting a washing machine, contential wash and top load, any recommendation?

requirements are
- washing clothes for 2 person, with occasional washing of qulit (king size), curtains, sofa seats cover, bed sheets.
- save water consumption
- save electricity consumption
- washer cum dryer
- max budget $1,200

how do i calculate the water and electricity consumption?

thanks in advance

Hi,

I need some advice. I'm going to get TV, washing machine, fridge, microwave oven... Could anyone reccommend me which brand is better? What i need to take note b4 buy?

Target for below:
LED TV > Samsung / LG
Washing machine > LG
Fridge > LG / Hitachi
Microwave oven > Panasonic

Thank you.

[email protected]

I don have any specification, but prefer if it save energy and not give me a lot of problems.

TV - $3,000-3,200 for both MBR n Living
WM - $700
Fridge - $1,000
Microwave oven - $200

You have any recommendation? Thank you.

For television. About 3200. Might be tight depending on sizes for both television but I think for samsung if its LCD then you might be able to get 2 for that price both about 40" or so. If its LED then might not be able to.

As for WM. Can try electrolux harvey norman exclusive model. 7kg with 1000rpm gg at $799. Slightly over. Check with harvey norman. Hopefully they still have that model at that price 10741 or something like that.

Fridge for 1k. There's quite a range. So you are looking side by side fridge? (American style) or you are looking for those normal fridge freezer fridge. Volume?

If you are looking for a big thoise side by side fridge. Then perhaps can consider samsung RS20crsv I think about 1099 if I'm not wrong. Some places are offering.

And as for microwave. R u looking for those normal feature or those u want grill? Table top microwave or built in microwave?

Oh y
oh you can have a look atthe models you are interested and go to parisilk to check how mUch is the best price they can quote. Usually its much cheaper. Of course there are other small retailer like goh ah bee.

We went HN last nite, there is promotion for below items:

LG LED TV
> 32" - 32LE5500 $999.00
> 42" - HT-S57702 $1,199.00
The 32" one can connect to router and use as monitor.

LG Washing machine
> 9.5kg WF-T95G00TED $569.00
> 10kg WF-T1000 $499.00
The Sale person told us that it is better to get 8.5kg and above for WM if intend to wash blanket and curtain (but we don hav curtain).

Fridge
> LG - 32LE5500 $1,089.00
> Hitachi - R-Z582EMS $999.00
The sales person told us there are 2 type of fridge, hitachi 1 is more energy save.

Microwaveoven (Table top)
> Panasonic - NN-SD577MYPQ $219.00

I m not sure what should i take note or aware during purchase, could you advise me. Thank you.

Where is Goh Ah Bee?

Hi as for the television.

It really depends on your size needs and also visual. Its highly subjective hence i may not be able to advise much., But yeah the price is around there.
Take the model number and call parisilk to quote.

As for the washer. you are looking not for a continental washer is it?
I personally prefer a continental washer for its various advantages.

Capability of washing different types of clothes, variable spin speed (depends on model) and also various temperature for hygiene and better cleansing.

also type of washing uses a lot of water and tend to be a little on the rough cos it side towards delicates in terms of washing.

Hence the electrolux the ewf 107441 at 799 for 7kg is enough to wash quilt up to queen size. with cold to hot wash features and spin speed of up to 1000rpm. but if you are comfortable with the asian style of washing. i would prefer fisher and paykel. price wise a little higher but they use slightly lesser water and also it has a beater in the centre. aids in washing effectively and efficiently. though still no hot wash option. but if you have a storage heater the fisher paykel washer can have the option of piping hot water in to mix to make it warm or hot wash.

wash blanket. what kind of blanket are you talking about? quilt? comforter? waht size?

as for fridge. what u mean by 2 type of fridge are they talking?

I would look for the following

1) no of green ticks.. 3 - 4 is preferred
2) safety glass shelving
3) multi air flow cooling for better cooling efficiency
4) perhaps lightling. is it a top lighting only or is it tower lighting (lighting runs behind the fridge from top to bottom -preferred as it give very good visual at a glance)
5) other additional features e.g. twin compressor system? this is great to have
6) some top freezer -traditional vs the new ones which is more to the needs of the current generation --> bottom freezer top chiller?

typically mistubishi and fisher paykel tends to be the favourites and also their commanding price is high too. how big a fridge are you looking at.

micxrowave oven. almost all are the same. except their watts as well as timing. i would prefer those that you can add in increments if 10 sec, 1 min, 10 min.

so that its easy access to timing
you can click door close then press say 3 mins 1+1+1 + start

or 30 sec 10 + 10 +10 + start. buy those that give direct access.. or if you prefer those with nuymber keypads.

and maybe with grill function (optional)

panasonic tends to do quite well in microwave. oh yeah and maybe door type. look to see if you prefer those that you pull thehandle open or push a button to release door to pull a release handle to open door. so this is preference.. take note of such details k

good luck

Hi Ridz,

Thank you for your sharing and advise.

My frens advise me to look for Sharp or Panasonic for those electrical items, is this true? I really don have all this kind of experience, as long as it give me what i need will do =D

He say inside fridge hav 2 kind of function, 1 is have few hole which help to cooling the fridge... another 1 is the motor behind, there is only 1 place help to cooling... the 2nd 1 will help to save energy and better function...

The blanket i refer is quilt...

Parisilk is a commpany?

Purchased a new Samsung 2 door fridge from Gain City and the ice maker does not work. I contacted Samsung who sent out an engineer who confirmed it cannot be repaired and as the end of the line cannot be exchanged like for like either. They had offered a refund which would leave me and my family without a fridge freezer in the interim. I have requested a replacement model or a discount on the existing machine which they have refused. They have then come back to me and said that as it was a showroom model that they will not honour the agreement. I have bought a very expensive lemon and they are refusing to do anything for me. I thought the lemon law was clear on this but Samsung seem to think it does not apply to them.
