Prenups & Postnups

I remember touching on this topic a while ago.

Anyway, about 2 wks ago, it was mentioned in ST , Singapore's highest court said that contracts made before marriage regarding a couple's assets, maintenance and the custody and care of children will be considered by the courts in a divorce, although they will not be automatically upheld.

There was another article about pre nups in today's ST. http://www.straitstimes.com/News/Home/Story/STIStory_341490.html

In the US, couples who have not made pre-nups before getting married are doing post-nups.

I seriously want to do up a Post-nup.

It makes a lot of sense to me. Like you would buy insurance to cover you in event of death / TPD.

I showed my husband the article.

He asked is it I want to do it. Cos I did hint to him previously.

He says he's ok if I really want to do it.

Do u think it's a good move?

now i'm wondering why he so readily agreed.

a case of damned-if-i-do, damned-if-i-don't ..

if he doesn't agree, you would say he's not respecting your wishes .. and now he agrees, you're left wondering why .. the poor man can't win ..

Hi,

I'm wondering what are the views for pre-nup from the ppl here, since many are married or are getting married. Would you see it as a lack of trust if your SO ask you to do one up?

Kinda of pondering about it because ST forums are having quite a heated debate over it. I personally thought that it's okay and don't see it as a road for divorce if i sign on it.

Lyndy,
It seems that you are still very insecured. Why are u worrying about so many things and doubting your hubby so much? Why did u marry him when there's no trust?

I still remember Lyndy's 'interesting post' on Wives of Pilot thread hehe.

That's y, like i said in my other thread, we have to take pre-emptive measures, instead of trusting blindly, much to the disagreement of some other forummers.

I've set some boundaries for him.

1) No clubbing/drinking with cabin crew
2) No dining out with cabin crew (dine alone if you have to)
3) Not allowed to step into hotel room of opposite sex, vice versa
4) No sight seeing with cabin crew (sightsee alone if you have to)
5) Give me a copy of your flight schedule
6) Use alternate handphones
7) Never turn off your handphone once you touch down - must stay contactable
8) Must answer my phone call at all times when not flying
9) No conversing with cabin crew unless neccessary to carry out on-the-job duty
10) Bring along your laptop & turn on your webcam in the hotel room
11) Inform me of your hotel and room number once you check in

He has agreed that the above boundaries are reasonable and not difficult to adhere to.

I've got other plans drawn out as well but dont think proper to be disclosed to anyone.

In short, i recognise the risk involved
let's just say, i'm taking a calculated risk here in letting him pursue his pilot aspiration, not because i'm self-sacrificing because that's the last thing i am, but because of my own well-being too.

if you have millions of dollars in the bank, assets to protect, then i understand the reason for a pre-nup .. does it really work in the context of ordinary folks?

My case of a pre-nups is mainly for the people who own businesses (esp families business), with trust funds, has a portfolio and properties.

But would a guy/gal feels that if asked to sign a pre-nup to protect these interests a lack of trust and love in the marriage??
