Hi, anyone can share wth me yr outdoor wedding venue? I have abt 100 pax only and looking for either in buffet or sit dwn main course in outdoor, with abt max $50 per head. Thanks

try out "my secret garden" around city area - you can google this and get the website. it can host up to 150 pax. i have enquired before, so if you are keen, let me know your email add and i can forward you.

to be honest, secret garden is pretty ex...highly doubt ur budget is applicable for them...u might want to reconsider n try others

How about botanical gardens or japanese garden. I saw some picture on a wedding at japenese gardens and it looks really pretty. PM if you are interested to see the pictures.

hi J&J,

I know Mandai Orchid do have. I need to know mre source abt mre venue so that i can shortlist it. Anyone also knw where is the venue for poolside? Can share pix wth me? Thanks.

Another place I know, is british club. You can do a nice rooftop dinner there. My fren is holding her ROM there, but the space is limited, probably about 50 pax. But their terrace should be able to hold 100 pax. THe prices are also very reasonable. You would have to get your own favors though.

hi superfly & Yang Yen,

Thanks for yr suggest, i will go check it out. I intend to do my wedding wth march-in red carpet and all the necessary things like those chinese customery, jst that will like to hold in a more western style rather than those enclosed restaurant. Anyone have mre suggestion for me, pls share here, thanks. :-)

Happy New Year Everyone!

I've done some research and came up with a list of venue for an outdoor wedding for approx 150 guests. Hopefully, they'll be of some use for you too! They are:

Fort Gate @ Fort Canning Park
Singapore Art Museum - max capacity of 100
sad.gif

Aloha Chalet (sea views but its in changi/pasir ris)
Botanic Gardens
Labrador Park
Art House
Asian Civilisation Museum

I'm looking at Fort Gate @ Fort Canning Park as venue rental is only $642 and I'll be getting someone to put up a marquee for us. Hoping that it'll be a beautiful romantic night!

Please let me know your thoughts too!

Disclaimer - i'm only started planning my wedding and havent had a chance to check out the venues so there's no guarantee!

I did my wedding at Fort Gate, Fort Canning Park. It is a beautiful venue but of course got pros and cons. Art House is nice too but exp and it is not outdoors. You can try some yacht clubs but they are still quite 'cheena' unless you do a lot of customisation yourself. Botanic Gardens is nice but doesnt allow you to use the garden per say unless you pick a restaurant within the garden. Rochester Park has a few venues but it is very segregated for your guests.

When is your wedding Sher? Fort Gate will need a lot of decor to make it look good. You really need to invest a lot to make it impressive. But the outcome will be worth it and will leave a lasting impression to your guests.

Hi Chong,

Hope you had a wonderful wedding at Fort Gate

My outdoor wedding got voted out by parents. They're worried that it will rain and cos we only have 150 guests, it won't work out cheaper (esp the decor/flowers etc) than having it at a hotel.

Oh what a waste! We trusted everything to God and even had our holy matrimony under the big tree with flowers and all. Then we moved over to the Fort Gate area for the reception under a tentage.

Your wedding over already? You booked hotel liao?

I recently had dinner at Picotine at old Turf club area. It's quite a nice place and I thought if they do weddings, it can be a nice place too.

Hi Chong, U had your Matrimony and reception at Fort Canning? Wow.. I wanted that too, but have a few concerns. You did your lighting of candles, communion etc there? will the public be walking pass, stand and look? I dunwan the wedding to be a show.

which caterer/ vendor did you have for you food and tentage? can u advise how much did you spend too? thanks!!

hi Tan, Fort Canning is a lovely place to hold a wedding but you have to be prepared for a few things. I did the whole church service in the open grass area near Fort Gate. No communion though... a bit weird to have communion there. But the lighting of candles, vows, sermon all done. Yes there will be public but they all see with envy and admire the wedding. Though I was very annoyed with one amateur photographer who happened to be there, and stayed at my wedding to take pics. That was very wrong and I am upset he did not even try to contact me to give me the photos. He had no right to do that. Aside from that, all ok. But I did get a present from someone I don't know who probablu attended the wrong wedding. There was another wedding that day at Fort Canning!

But it's not that bad lar. The public won't, for instance, join in your wedding. They will just admire from afar. That should be okay.

I used a really good food caterer who gave me a very nice western menu. Lavish.com but they messed up on one thing that really spoiled the wedding. But it was very careless of them. The guests liked the food though and they have a very nice beautiful fondue fountain.

Be prepared to spend on tentage, and tables, chairs. I rented 200 chairs (all plastic without cover) and I didn't rent tables for the dinner apart from VIP tables. All these are costly and people whom you invite to this wedding, are mostly from church. Because church ceremony ma... but I did church & dinner together there. Still I had a lot of church members. But be prepared to get small ang pow from church friends. Some are ok but some who don't know you well kind will give you like $40-50 which is very cheapskate.

They will think this is a church wedding even though you have it at Fort Canning. Some people just don't get it. I even served red and white wine plus hard liquor and they can give $50 ang pow. I really hope they realise the shame in that after seeing my food and drinks spread. Tsk tsk.

So anyways, be prepared for these qualms I have just shared. Still makes me fed up thinking about it. But in the end, still make money lar. Cos I didn't waste money on tables and chairs. We moved the chairs from ceremony to the dining tentage behind the fort gate.

If you have a lot to spend, then do the whole shebang including the table linen and chairs with covers. But again, be prepared for cheapo guests. The typical kind who think "not hotel so can give cheap ang pow".

Hi, Christine

May I know where u held your wedding?

I tried to book Raffles House at Fort Canning but they are not open for booking till unknown period.. really sad, because I love that place..

Burkill Hall at Botanical garden also not open for booking..

My ROM will be hold outdoor

Hi Chong,

I've got a few qns..

Wondering if you can share roughly how much you spent on your wedding at Fort Canning, in terms of the decor? Who did you appraoch to do the decor?

Did you have any backup plans in case it happens to rain heavily on that day? Do you have any photos?

Hi Charlotte,
Actually I think I spent much less than people who had dinner banquets in hotels. I can't recall how much I spent to be honest. It's been 2 years! But I can recommend you what to spend on.

Spend on decor if you intend to use a A-shape tentage which is the cheapest but get inside lining and yellow lights to create a nice ambience. Don't hire from Nanyang cos they cost more but of course nicer la. Get from other tentage you can surf around for.

But if you want to entrust someone to handle this and be safe, use Nanyang for they have a wedding dept that is very well versed. You pay for it lor. I used plastic chairs without covers. Covers are expensive. It still lookd good. You just need nice flowers. I did my ceremony in the garden without tentage and it was all by faith in God. I didnt really have a back up plan except to just cramp everyone in the tentage if it rains. But thanks to God, He gave us a great weather.

You can have your tent as back up but be prepared for a not as nice wedding ceremony if it really rains. If not, you can play safe and do your dinner and ceremony in the tent. How big is your crowd? If not too big, you can do all dinner tables and seats and do your ceremony on stage in tent.

I dont have photos right now though. As of now, I still can't find my CDR. Yeah so much for keeping them. If you have Dec 07 issue of Her World Brides, you can see my wedding there.

Hi Charlotte,

Forgot to mention, I had a church ceremony in the garden so I got a regular florist to do the job. They were not bad but a bit stingy on what they can provide and use. So I don't want to mention. But the entire decor concept was conceptualised and designed by someone I know. She started her own floral website. You can go check it out. enchantedfloral.blogspot.com

Hi Chong,

Thanks for the informative reply. I've been attending alot of church weddings.. So am thinking of having something out of the norm.

Tentage wise, do you know how much more they charge if we include air con in the tentage?

Initially i was thinking of The Legends. But it is quite expensive..

I'm waiting for my friend to pass me her Dec 07 of Her World Brides. Cant wait to see how it's like! =)

Hi Charlotte,

It is definitely a beautiful experience to have your church ceremony done outdoors. Takes a lot of faith too! hah!

Well, if you are very rich, then having A/C in the tentage shouldn't be a problem. I don't know exactly how much but I think you should expect to spend at least $10,000 to have a marquee and aircon. Regular A-Shape tentage may not suit this set up. So a marquee which is one of the nicest looking tentage may cost up to $8000, in which case my estimation may be wrong for the A/c. A/c will probably jack it up by 2-fold.

I think you can consider coolers if you really want to have some form of A/c. Coolers are about $200 pr unit and if your tentage is something like mine, maybe 6-8 will be needed. But these are not aircons, just coolers, blowing cool air like fan. But it looks quite ugly n may be a bit noisy. I think if you can ceiling 3-blade fans would be nice and cool if it is in the evening.

Oh yes, if you hav A/c you will need wooden platform built below the tentage which is another $$ altogether unless you plan to have it on the stone floor, not grass floor.

I just read your comment on The Legends. If you think The Legends is expensive, you can forget abt doing an AC tentage because it wil probably cost you the same as Legends but without the food and drinks and furniture thrown in. But then again, I could be wrong. Why dont you ask for a quote to be sure?

The Legends' tentage is non-AC too. I don't really like their set up. It just looks like a tentage in a outdoor place (macham roadshow), not exactly very special since there is no garden next to it and a kiddy pool nearby i believe.

Have you considered other venues like ACM or National Museum or Art House? The ACM gallery (I think its the Lee Kuan Yiew gallery or something) looks very nice. If you can do your wedding there, it can be very special.

Most of my decors shipped from US as my hubby working in US.
