Is it a "requirement" to have a wedding dinner? my fiance and i are thinking of just inviting our guests to our rom and then leave it at that..like a simple rom/wedding lunch.. cuz we are gg overseas and holding a wedding dinner 3 years later seems a little unnecessary.. what are the traditions related to this? we both are not religious nor traditional, but my family is. any suggestions?

I have many friends that didn't have wedding dinners, but it really depends on your family - We are having wedding dinner cos parents want it...

Wob8ly> We did not have a wedding dinner. Our ROM & AD is about 1 year apart. ROM only for immediate family which is like 1 pvt room with abt 20pax (2 tables of sit down lunch). AD we have picking up of bride & tea-serving than relative have their lunch buffet at parents place.

ohh.. thanks..glad to know something.. excited yet gotta decide on so many things

Ah.. hmm. gotta check with the parents.. thinking if we can combine elements of both.. like picking up the bride, rom ceremony, lunch buffet then tea ceremony..

Wob8ly> Yes you can do the ROM and AD like picking up the brides all in one day so save the trouble to do it in 2 days.... its depends what you and your partner like.

But do disccus this with both sides parents cause something they may not like the idea.

For us, we dun fancy the dinner part so no go for us so we decided to keep the picking up of bride, tea-serving and guo da li still... just a no dinner event :P to return something to the parents... at least to keep them happy...

Christy>> yupp.. it seems a little redundant because if we split into two days it would be 3 years apart... i have a huge family.. its the guest list that will be a headache! my fiance dont have such a huge family though.. so it might be a little hard to think about who to invite, who to not.. and there is the friends of the family...and our close friends!! but we are hoping to keep within 50 people... gotta sit down one day to list out the people that we will be inviting...
