Mandarin Orchard Singapore

anyone care to share their wedding @ Meritus? am planning 2 hold my wedding there ( either Belvedere or reception hall), any comments, pls?

Jasmine> It depends on how many guest you expect to have. Reception hall only caters to maximum 18 tables. Belvedere is for bigger capacity. Min. 25 tables. Of cos Belvedere is grander look cos its a ballroom....

I booked the Reception Hall as my guest list is below 25 tables.

lavender sky> i chose the Alternatives instead of Chicken Rice Menu as I find more worth it.
And considering older folks.... they may not like the idea of Chicken Rice on the menu... in my case, it sounded cheapo to them :p

Try asking Angie (Meritus Mandarin) for advise. She is one of the longest staying staff in the Banquet section and has alot of experience.

Hi Jasmine, i just had my wedding at the Belvedere on the 9th and it was jus marvelous....

if you are looking at holding one there, req for an extra projector. bcos there are many pillars, and having only 1 projector wld mean many guests wont b able to watch ur montage, etc clearly.

only some sitting at the tables next to the stage are blocked.

if you have a videographer, ask him to bring a long cable so tat you could also provide live projection.

Hi waverine, thanx for e advice.

Hi SnC,
any photos to share? u req for extra projector from MM? any charges? how u place the 2 projectors then?

who's ur VG? haven decide if going for tat...but mostly, low budget for tat too..

Hi Lavander_sky, my pix are not ready yet. in another 1wk plus. will share wif u once i have them.

no additional charges for the extra projectors. basically one in the original place, another next to the technical room.

my videographer was frm m'sia. he's skills are extremely good.. even my guests praised his skills.

cost wise.. its definately cheaper n reasonable for the same standard you would find here...

Hi SnC, my wedding is going to be at The Belvedere too. How was the food, service and ambience? Anything to look out for besides the projector? tks

Lavendersky,

Sorry for the late reply. Overall I am impressed with Meritus Mandarin and felt that they deserve to be praised in the forum.

As for my wedding program, I will show the childhood montage first, followed by the first march in. For the second montage, I will show the express highlight first, followed by the second march in.

For me, I have 22 tables. So there are enough room to manage the tables so that they won be blocked by the pillars. I believe there will be a few guests who will be blocked but I don believe is a main concern. It's very hard to please everyone.

As for the Bridal Room, ya it is a bit disappointment. I have been to my friend's bridal suite in another hotel, and the hotel decorated the room v nicely, with rose petals and wedding bears on the bed. However, for mine, it is just a big room. No romantic kind of feeling.

As for my dinner, I did not go for chicken rice cos (1) I ate it at the chatterbox and my husb and I don find it nice (2) i read before that it will take a long time to serve as the waiter will need to serve individually (3) rice and chicken is considered 2 dishes instead of 1.

My advice is not to opt for chicken rice. Their food (e.g. fish, noodles, dessert) is really excellent.

Let me know if you need any details

Hey ladies,

Will be having my AD at MM on 16 December 07. Need some advices on the theme to choose. Have you been to MM to look at their themes available? AM thinking of a black/ red or black/gold theme..

Hi SnC,
forget my email the last time. can share the contact? thx, [email protected]

Hi Mr & Mrs Wong,
hearing ur feedback, most prob will go for the alternatives too, agree tat rice & chicken considered as 2 dishes abit lugi.
tot its min 25 tables there? any extra charges if its 22?

Lavender_sky: For me, I booked the hotel 3-4 weeks before my wedding. There arent any booking for the room on the date I want (New Yr's eve). And cos so last min, the coordinator is nice to push to 22 tables for me, cos I need to re-confirm my guest list and there isnt much time to re-confirm then.

Mr and Mrs Wong

Do you mind sharing the menu which you have chosen? We were given the Nirvana Package - Chinese Menu I and II to choose from.

Coordinator told us to decide soon as he needs to plan for food tasting in the coming month....BUT we are in dilemma, dont know which dish to take....AND my in laws seem to have very different tastes from my parents =(
When we showed them the menu respectively, they chose different dishes.

Are we allowed to inter-change the dishes on the menu? Eg: Taking Menu I but request to change to Menu II Cold Dish. Need to top up?

Or can we request for complete change of a certain dish? Eg: Both menus offer desserts which they dont like. Can we request for a complete new dessert? Need to top up?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Mr & Mrs Wong and Lavender_sky,

Am actually thinking of having the chicken rice as there's quite a few tables of guests from hk and they've heard about d Mandarin Chicken Rice...

After reading your tread...m having 2nd thoughts...

Mr & Mrs Wong...read that d rice will be served individually? Does that also mean the presentation will be nice?

Hmmm...

So...anyone has any feedback on card printing? I'll be visiting the printer in 2 weeks time...wondering how's the range like and if there service is good...

Also, are there any new wedding favours from MM?

Conxie

I'm torn between chicken rice and alternatives too. My mum's colleague attended a dinner at MM last week and she told her the chicken rice presentation very exquisite. My mum got all excited and told me to remember to choose that (she has all the gd intentions too cos hb is a Hainanese). But when I showed in laws the 2 menus, they dont consider that at all. My MIL very health-freak type. She said now so many bird-flu, dont order chicken *FAINTZ* That's why I posted my earlier post to ask for suggestions.

MM's card printer is T Dragon right? I was told to go choose cards since early May but only popped down last week. I think the range is really quite large leh. Prob it's just me but the range to choose from is already good enough for me. There were 4 or 5 designs which I particularly like, so in the end compromised with hb to choose the one which we both feel ok. I met Rosalind, Connie (boss), Wendy, all very friendly and helpful.

When is your wedding? Wendy told me usually we can collect cards approx. 10 workings days from the day you approved the artwork. We just approved ours today, probably can collect by end of June =)

Hi Jadz

The food was good, and the service was great! My guests enjoyed themselves very much.

We had chose the Belvedere bcos of the ambiance it provided. Romantic yet classy...

If you have some ideas or themes, do share with your coordinator. They will try to fit / blend in with your theme.
Be imaginative and willing to explore new options... it helps

Hi Conxie

I didn't choose the chix rice for my dinner too.
not sure about the taste but mainly bcos chix rice can be found easily outside. Even the ex-chef has opened his stall at downtown east.

to what I understand, there isn't any new favours for weddings... as they will b undergoing reno nex year.

the "latest" ones are like keychains and handphone straps...

Hope this helps

Hi Conxie

I read in the forum that got pple complain take v long to present (maybe that's why the presentation is exquisite)...

If u asked my comments, I would not advise you to take cos I don find the chicken rice fantastic. In fact, you should go and try it out yourself before deciding (if you really in a dilema).

My hubby and I eat (free treat from coordinator hehe) the chicken rice and we immediately noe that we won choose chicken rice in our menu

Hi Kyra

Mine's a mix between Nirvana Package I & II

this is what we took for tasting

Lobster Salad Combination

Braised Shark's Fin Soup with Frsh Crabmeat and Conpoy

Sauteed Scallops and Cuttlefish with Honey pea and Spicy Sauce in Golden Nest

Braised sliced Abalone with Mushrooms and Tender Vegetables

Steamed Sea Garoupa with Wolfberry and Ginger

Rosted Crispy Duck with Special Chinese Herb

Braised Whole Chicken with red dates and Ginseng (changed to drunken prawns for AD)

Braised Ee-Fu Noodles with Chives and Mushrooms in Abalone Sauce

Chilled Avocado Pudding

But we made some changes to the menu after tasting...

Tks all.

Personally I won't take the chix rice option too. Tasted it before like during free treat from coordinator too....nothing special abt it....

Thanks SnC

Do we need to top up for interchanging dishes between Nirvana I & II? Or for totally changing the dishes?

Have emailed my coordinator, he hasnt replied.

Hi Kyra

No need to top up anything...
actually i was informed that i could choose any of the dishes within these 2 menus...

if you do not like these after tasting, or prior to tasting, you could check with your coordinator if there are other dishes you could change to. That's what I did.

Hi Kyra

Actually all the dishes were good...
depending on individual taste buds.

We liked especially the sharks fin!
u should also try the avocado pudding...

the prawns were very fresh too...

Thanks SnC

Prawns arent steamed, they use very fresh prawns still? My in laws were asking if we should change to steamed prawns cos they must ensure freshness then *headache*

Hi Kyra

Actually for our food tasting, there are few dishes that arent cooked to our liking, esp. the fish overcooked. And we feedbacked, on actual day, all the dishes were very cooked very well. I believe you should feedback to your co-ordinator.

Their Yam Paste is teh best i ever eaten in a wedding dinner

Just to share

I just had my wedding dinner in May 2006 at Belvedere. It was fantastic. The food was yummy, service was good and my dear lovely wedding coordinator was so patient with us. Two thumbs up!!

We really enjoyed our night..

Hi, I'm thinking of having my wedding banquet at Act 1. My co-ordinator is Jesmi.

Does anyone have any photos of their wedding at this venue? I'm looking for ideas on how I could decorate it, for example, with a garden theme etc.

Thanks!

I've tried d chicken rice a couple of times...frankly...it's not tat great lor...but was tinking it's something different compared to other banquet dishes...haiz...

hi conxie, it depends on your family and guests actually....personally, don't think the older folks like to be served chix rice no matter how "posh" it's supposed to be...

for ur hk guests, no pt serving something that u dont find nice? might as well bring them to other renowned chix stores in singapore if they really like to try

Hi Waverine,

Thanks for the pics! Those of the doorway and reception area for Act 1 are particularly useful for me as I can use it to brainstorm on how to decorate it.

Cheers!
happy.gif

zrefrusk> I was very tempted to take ACT 1..... the reception area is very spacious and private..... compared to the Reception Hall... but we were too lazy to decorate the place... so chose Reception Hall instead....

Waverine> I know what you mean... though I like it for that reason - it inspires me to think of ways to decorate it! But that probably means more $ spent on ribbons, flowers etc...

Reception Hall is quite nice and cosy too!

:P

zrefrusk> get all your JIEMEIs to help u decorate! delegate the job to them! u are the main lady.... so just concentrate on being nice and pretty

by the way, if you want get ribbons... can go rochor/beach road area..... or near little india... have those shops selling party decors...

hi peeps, i juz got the draft contract for my wedding dinner at meritus mandarin. After taking a look at it, there's a clause which states that
im liable for damage claims if my guests vomited
onto the hotel's carpet. it's $850++ for the cleaning charges.

is it common for all wedding dinner contracts to have this clause? or have any1 actually request the hotel to take it out from the contract?

thks in advance..
