Let's Play A Game

ok seeing as it's a Friday.
let's try something fun.

I asked my friends this over dinner at someone's house the other day and it seemed rather thought-provoking.

Here it goes.

In our idle chatter, I'm sure all of us have ever said that it'd be nice to be rich till you don't have to worry about job security, promotion, soaring property prices, taking off for a holiday, buying that luxury car/handbag/mountain bike/motorbike/golf club/etc, fixing things around the house without batting an eyelid, replacing that dam remote key you left in the taxi without registering in your head that SGD600 hurts.... right?

So... if a genie came up to you and said you could be rich beyond your wildest dreams.

But... you have to give up a strength.

What would it be?

I don't think I can give up any of my strengths for riches, it will not be ME anymore.

So I guess you can guess my answer bedok =)

vios, for your witty creativity, the genie will also grant the wish by returning you a piece a paper with words "Unlimited wealth"

Thomas answer is what I really wanted my friends to know. Actually this question is a good exercise to get ppl to realise that they have good points about them in place of riches that they would be unwilling to give up.

Once this little enlightenment of sorts is attained, it really puts a spring in your step, at least for a few days before you receive your credit card bills, telco bills, loan instalment, etc.

Haha.

Milo: eeee....

Vios: .... haha. I think you won't be laughing when the genie writes down 'Riches' on a piece of paper and gives it back to you.

If wealth is indeed unlimited, they can take away my strength, that is diligence haha...

With endless stream of $, no need to work hard already haaaa

maybe your diligence stems from the heart and even if it doesn't, being so used to it makes it a big part of you.

Losing your diligence may render you a bo chup person?

I like this game.

I thought it will be easy for me to list a strength that I'm willing to trade for money, as strength, to me, may become a weakness in another situation. Yet, I'm undecided... because I think I'll most likely want it back some years later.

But I want the money

miyako: strength!!! aiyoooo.... then what's the point of this game if you can give away a bad thing and get something good in return.

olpsn: haha, olpsn, hence the interesting thing about this game lor...

haha...bedokboy, it's about losing a strength mah...so I guess without diligence, it may not necessarily mean I'll become a bo chup person. Sometimes being more bochup at work can actually extend my life span I think haaaa

ok lah so lose your sense of hard work.

so a brighter note someone like you can tell yourself that you still stand a better chance than the lazy person to get rich.

Okay, I am very money-face nowadays due to having not much money, haha. A Strength? Please, take whichever you want (except love, family, health) and give me richest beyond my wildest dreams. :D

Die, I have no morals.

wah u guys femme, ariel, miyako really need to get a lid on things leh.

cmon, surely you have a strength that is irreplaceable. One that you'd never give up for anything in the world. When you are reminded of this strength then you should realise that there are things more important than riches.

Yes on a day-to-day it's easy to be lazy and assume that money solves all our problems. But because we don't have any, the next best thing is to rely on our strengths. These should carry you through your toughest times and you can choose to think that there could tough times ahead that money can't solve...

it's like giving up your fishing rod in exchange for a hundred thousand fish... hard to even consider giving up if u're very good with your rod. if u know your strengths well and combine them like u're in an orchestra, it's improbable to not even have a decent life...

most times it isn't your strengths hindering u anyway, it's yourself. this question points out to those willing to have an exchange - that they are witty, or they are lazy... most times it's the latter.

Bedok, actually being analytical has its good and bad.. Just depend on where you use it.. Aiya I give up lah.. All these seem to be my weakness instead. Lol!

Many of our strengths today are not god gifted but hardwork that build it. Even if we lose it, we can relearn it again. What we cannot lose is the fundamentals that build what we are today. With that, the acquired strengths can be regained with time.
