Ladies .... Diamonds Rings - What matters to you ?

heya, am thinking of getting a diamond ring my by better half and i was wondering what aspect of a diamond matters to her(or to ladies at large) ?\

Size as in # of Carats ?
Clarity ?
Color ?
Cut as in # of Facets?(eg Brilliant rose of SK got 66 cuts, Destiny of Lee Hwa got lesser cuts, etc.. )

Give me your humble opinion

Diamonds are very subjective actually... it really depends on the girl and what she likes. I'm worried if you base everything on what the rest of us say here, you might risk getting her something she doesn't like...

Anyway, for me, I won't pay so much for a tiffany ring lor (for example). For the same amount of money, I would rather pay for a good quality diamond in a bigger size than just a tiny one from branded shops. Again, this is just my own preference

For me, colour and carat are tied at the top, followed by clarity (people can't see the difference between a VVS1 and a VS2 for example). Unless you're going to put 2 diamonds side by side, you can't really tell the difference between a lee hwa destiny with a normal cut diamond.

i couldnt agree more with yr state. I am no tiffany fan, just paying for branding.

I have bought the diamond ring and done the surprised proposal last weekend. she didnt expected it... hahaha.

It was a 0.71 E color VVS1 from lee hwa... pretty worth the dough

Lee Hwu's Destiny upon comparison with normal cut isnt much a big difference unless with careful eyes.

My bf has a different approach and wants me to choose the ring that I want, which I dont mind, cos he knows nothing about jewellery and totally hates shopping.

Anyway, if you don't mind, may I know how much you bought the ring for? Was it a normal or a Destinee that you bought?

I am confused with all this Destinee, Celestial etc etc and not sure what I should get.

I beg to differ.

My boyfriend insists on buying me a Tiffany ring, even though he knew that he would have to pay a premium for the brand.

We had a great time shopping in the shop as the sales staff were great. We're assured of the quality of the workmanship. What's more, the diamond is set in a platinum ring, not white gold.
The six claws design also enhanced the ring, making it look bigger, and v classic.

I think the most important in the 4 Cs is the CUT. Apart from the carat (of course the bigger the better).

When a cut is good, it will make the diamond look bigger and whiter, because it's shinier. eg. A G-colour tt's well cut can look very white.

And it's the only factor in the 4Cs that required effort from a craftsman.

Personally I feel clarity is not tt important as it's not visible to the naked eye, so long as you don't go for too low grade.

One tip I personally learnt fr observations during our diamond hunting...

eg. instead of buying a 0.5 carat, buy a 0.48 carat. There isn't much difference in the size, but quite a big difference in the price.
or buy a 0.29, instead of a 0.3...
you get what I mean...

Yup, I agree with you on buying a diamond that is slightly smaller in size cos we were told that once the diamond reaches a certain size, there is a big jump in price!

Like that day I went shopping for bands with my HTB at Brilliant Rose at Vivocity, one of the staff also recommended to us a 0.49..she showed us another 0.5, which we feel isn't quite different (in terms of size) from the 0.49 but the price is about a few hundreds different lor

The clarity of a ring does't really matter. My bf just proposed to me he brought me a brilliant rose, 0.32 it was so shining. =)

I need some help here.
Recently, I have been hunting around for engagement ring and need some advice.
I have been to SK, Goldheart, Lee Hwa, Sookee.
At this point of time I'm interested in a 0.9 carat, G color, SI2 clarity, round cut and GIA certified diamond ring from Sookee. They are charging me $5508 after discount (I think it's a 50% discount).
Is it a good buy?

I have not been to eClarity and Josi yet. Should I go this 2 places to take a look?

notice that you are interested in a 0.9 carat diamond at $5508.. have u consider the clarity of the diamond? For a bigger diamond in this case, the size of the inclusions might be quite visible to the naked eye especially in a three prong or four prong setting.

Just to share my views with all of you.

My hubby bought me an engagement ring. 0.7 caret D colour. VVS1(I think)

Diamond size does matter, so does its quality n clarity. I would rather you get a smaller diamond but clarity is gd.(Between D-F colour)Of course, budget plays an impt part too in purchasing one. Your wife would be wearing everyday and it's the most prominent for all to see.

mine is a 1 carat, e colour, vs2, triple excellent.

but i soon going to trade-in for a bigger carat like 1.2 carat, but not so good grade..... maybe a G colour, SI...... because need to top up at least 35% of the original price.... i will use it to buy a pair of ear-ring

i think clarity is the least impt of all Cs...cos it is not really visible under the naked eye unless u use a microscope to view the diamond (which u wont do it everyday)...

Cut is the most impt, like wat some of the brides mentioned, it makes the diamond looks bigger dan what it actually it.

colour n carat ties...cos both r equally impt to me....

my fiancee got me a 0.815 carat, E colour, VS2 clarity, and AGS triple ideal cut....got it from vivo diamonds.

I agree that buying a tiffany ring is not necessary cos ppl wont noe that its a tiffany ring when u r wearing it on ur finger. paying a premium for the brand is actually quite silly to me. Cos for that price u can actually buy a better grade and bigger diamond, which is more visible.

i heard from my friend that platinum band is not that good...it goes out of shape easily. i myself prefer white gold. =)

It's a pretty good buy, however that's also because the specs aren't that fantastic.
Yes clarity isn't that important, but it also depends on the size, the larger the carat the more obvious. Naked eye cannot tell but when compared to another stone, it will be more obvious, same goes with Color. G color is perfectly fine after setting the diamond, you cant tell any difference at all. Back to clarity, try to get at least a SI1 for diamonds larger than 0.5, truth facts - when your gf eventually compares with another of her friend's diamond ring, you will be able to see obvious differences.

I'm a certified diamond grader and I can tell you that standards for cuts are very low so make sure you get a triple excellent cut for all certified diamonds. A "very good" cut, is not good enough in my opinion.
