Indian wedding Services in Singapore

hey aprylbride...totaly agree with u...what comes after the wedding is the thing to look forward to, the challenges and the happiness...

chick: i dont know why but i find some ppl oblivious to making comments like that...they dont even realize that they are making genralized statements which might brink on racism as they are so absorbed in their own little circles...

hi all!

wow.. i didnt log in for a couple of days cos was so swarmed by work n this thread is really alive!! great to see a place where indian gals can come together n share our views.. cool stuff!

Hey Chick i guess we cant really blame those who choose to remain ignorant of the progress Indian woman have made today...Well i believe tat every Indian gal is a beauty with fuller features and able to carry anything 'gordy' or 'natural'. WE R VERSATILE. We look great with all that yellow gold and yes we dun settle for 14k or 18k gold. We go for the best 22k or 24k...yes the YELLOW GOLD.

Hi Notredame - yeah my FH thinks i over-reacted as well..haha..but u noe wat, ppl need to realise that they shld be more mindful of what they say..

Have to agree with all ya gals, most of my friends have the biggest fights, including walking out and staying in hotel, etc in the first year of marriage..Sigh, so we gotta brace ourselves..and prepare to overcome all that..

Lisa - I'm with Z'wedding, havent gone down for my appts yet, so i cant tell u for sure..but from the comments from other forummers, given a choice again, they wldnt choose it. The experience also differs for one person to another in the same place..My package is about $2500.

Sphire - mite convince FH to call WS again and see how it goes. We didnt meet up after all cos i had to rush back to office midway. Am going to chennai for work, so i'll go and check stuff out like cards, whatever else...

Way to go Chick... even if she didn't mean it in a racist way, such generalistic remarks have an undertone of rasicm in it! good for u!

thanks for your input on the hotel people.. will keep searching...

Infinite, am also planning on doing a high tea but for my wedding. As the reception will be the next day in a hotel so didn't want to do 2 dinners in a row.. plus i prefer a day wedding that way i get to have the dholi ceremony at home after.. Just wondering if you could recommend any hotels that you may know of that have good high tea menu's.. some of the hotels menus that i've gotten aren't very appealing.

Chick: I know where you're coming from. I hope the idiot minds her language next time..

Hey Kismet I saw a feature on lunch buffets at the Grand Copthorne in yesterday's New Paper. Did you see it? It said prices start at $1,388+++ for 30 pax.

Theres' some kind of bridal fair goin on at Suntec this weekend. I dunno how helpful these things are, I've never been to one and not particularly interested. But Groomzilla just luuuurves stuff like this! eek!

hi ladies,

Lisa - I'm in the same boat as you. Looking for bridal studios too. Just for photography. I came across French Bridal who has worked with Indian couples before. But need to check out more.

Chick - Care to share your package with Z'wedding? What are you getting for $2500? Thanks.

notredame - I'm thinking of dropping by this Suntec thingy. Hopefully there will be different bridal studios featuring their portfolios. Might make my work a little easier. :p

I'm sort of nervous about what comes after the wedding...I'll be moving in with my husband and MIL after the wedding. Although my MIL is very nice, its different visiting the house now and actually living in it. I'm used to doing things my way and i'm sure there's a certain way of doing things in my in-laws home. I just hope i'm able to adjust where necessary...

hey girls, how is everyone?? Been busy with work here so din get to log in. There is so much to read..lots of hot topic ya.

Sphire, i totally understand your frustration abt racism. Since i've been here, i realise that racism is EVERYWHERE!! We just have to learn to live with it.

Hey Mabel, how are you doing there?? Not heard from you in a long time..

I am so happy, my MIL will be coming down next mth and we'll travel back to Singapore in Dec. Finally i have someone to cook for us. Honestly i dun enjoy cooking..hehehe..bad wifey huh...i especially hate cutting onions, i cry so much till my eye hurts. Hubby pitys me so much that he has finally volunteered to cut them for me.

Let's all arrange a gathering in Dec okie..

Take care and happy planning!!

Hey ladies..

Life after marriage? I'm aware of the changes in everything. But I cnt even discuss marriage wif my FH w/o a quarrel, how m I goin to discuss abt life after marriage? All I knw is that I'm gonna not live with his parents. Mi goin to hv a healthy relationship with them by visiting on weekends instead of building imaginary wall inbetween living wif them. Although we'll live separately (mi need my private space), it's my duty to assure them that we'll be there for them at all times and their son will still be their son. I'll still date my by then husband once in a while out for a movie or something. He works practically almost the whole day. Jus wanna spend a few moments daily sharing the day happens. I think it'll be healthy.

Holly - Great DEc will be it.

Lisa/SK - There's a bridal show in suntec this weekend. Some Hotels and bridal Studios will be there. Its a good time to sign and bargain.

Chick - Ok update mi on WS

hey gals,
I will settle the restaurant today. Everyone is pressurising me to settle it and so, most likely Riverwalk..I like the food there and I like water... thanks girls...now - where do i get nice bouquet - not too expensive

Hi Jini y dun u walk down Thomson Road and scout ard for deals on the spot. They are wholesalers so it might be easier. Pick your bouquet from magazines and show it them. Otherwise a florist near your home or near the ROM venue so u can save on transportation cost.

Lisa: I did my photo shoot with Golden Horse and was pretty happy with the way pictures turned out and loved my makeup and engaged the makeup artist for my rom as well...no matter which bridal studio u choose, go for one where u have heard good things abt the coordiantor cos experiences vary even within the same studio according to the person u choose...

Kismet: call me a bit kiasu but i went to visit more than 10 hotels b4 finally decidiing on raffles for my high tea...guests loved the place and said food was good as well...i personally liked the menu that GCW and Equinox offered but the ambience in Raffles just won me away...feel free to ask me if u wanna know anything abt the package...

Gini: neighboorhood florists have pretty nice arrangements and so much cheaper than the exorbitant prices charged by some established f=loriusts...i did mine for abt 30 and can send u a pic if u want

Ok i just had my makeup trial with Sandy Ho. She's pretty nice and her rates are reasonable. $40 for trial, $180 for photoshoot($100 for one extra hour, less if she stays longer). $350 for wedding day & night, including trial and $180 for just one session of day or night.

Ok so the verdict. I think she did a good job with the base. Matched my skin really well, looks very natural. My only problem is I don't like her eye makeup too much. She used a silvery blue color at first and i told her i didnt like it cos it was too bright. She's pretty open to changing though and she switched to an earthy tone which is much better. But she put highlighter all around the eyes...so it seems to me like there's a "halo".
I have small eyes so i guess she was trying to make them pop. I think the colors are a little too bright for me. But then it might look good in pics. My mom says i look like a cheena wayang!

I also got her to change the lip color she used at first which was a deep plum. I'm not a lipstick person so i freaked out, and she changed it to a brown-pink shade which was better.

The blush was good too. She used a MAC shade, like a deep pink.

So overall, i really love her base. It's really natural and very light. I think if i use her i'll have to get her to go easy on the eyes.

Thanks gals for all ur recommendations! i will keep them in mind. think i need to shortlist first then pay each one a visit to check out their gowns and packages..

Infinite: Can i know details abt ur package at Raffles? Im thinking of holding mine at the lawn. Heard its v nice! thanks in advance! u can mail me the package at [email protected] ?

have a good weekend gals!

Hey all! Wow! Don't quite know where to start!

Kismet - Hey, don't worry about it, you don't have to apologise for not explaining about the henna artist.

But on the topic of racism, well, it's a worry where this country is headed. I think I read on some forum page about these directional signs and how the one in Tamil was blatantly missing. But I don't recall seeing a response from the authorities. Typical.

Hey Kismet, which part of Aust is your FH from? Mine's from Perth.
happy.gif

Infinite - sorry to hear about your MIL. But from what you've written, it sounds like you're taking it well. I would be fuming and seething with deep hatred by now. ;)

Holly - Hey girl, you've found work? That's great! What as? Yeah, Dec sounds good. Hopefully in the early part cos I won't be around during the Christmas period.

HI infinite, can you mail me the pics? i live around the central - tiong bahru. Know any florists from around there?

Hi SK, my Zwedding package has the following, i also dun have soft copy of basic package but jus the extras written down. MTM/OTR wedding gown, MUA for trial, PS and AD, bouquet for PS and AD, Car deco for AD, 20 15R photos, 8R table-top, 5R mini album, free rental of 2 PC father jacket, 1 pc bestman suit, 1 bridesmaid gown, 1 set of flower girl+page boy suit, MTM suit for groom to keep, accessories, corsages etc

You should be able to get very good deals at fairs, i signed up at one of these shows. Actually you can just tell them what your budget is, they will be able to customise the package..Also, put as little down-payment as possible (say abt 500)..They will throw in extra freebies just to make u top up downpayment to $1000 or so...

Lisa - why dun u go to the Raffles Hotel bridal fair on 14th Oct? You'll get much better deals then..

Notredame - did you take pics of yr make-up trial?

Jini: here is the pic...paid abt 30 for it from the florist in choa chu kang lot 1...I personally like those without the paper covering it and theres just a ribbon to hold the stalks together...Just ask any of the neighbourhood florists for pics and many do a good job

hey lisa sorry i dont have a soft copy of my package from raffles...anyway ours was last year and this years menu and prices are likely to be different...so what we did was to email quite a number of hotels for theur packages and they responded within 2 days and then we could make an appointment to visit some each week...sorry abt that...

Hey guys,

Went to Jinder's on Friday and saw their bridal selection. Have to admit, I didn't pore through their lenghas because the MTM types all came with a flare skirt. I was looking for something with a mermaid-cut. So the person there suggested I get a saree fabric and tailor it to whatever style I want. Tailoring charges are about $150 for a straightforward design but if you want something a little more complicated it could be $200. And the saree fabrics I was looking at (bridal sarees with beadwork aplenty on the pattu - really lovely!)were about $650. So you could be looking at $800 for a tailor-made lengha. I expect the price could go lower becos this is before bargaining.

Has anyone tried Jinder's tailoring work? Recommended?

hi infinite..

no problem at all.. me will be going for the raffles hotel showcase so ill go check out whats on offer. thanks anyway!

Jini - Riverwalk is great. A hint from another forum. If u wanna purchase a bouquet, dont sat its for ur ROM or wedding. They'll jag-up price. If u hv someone whos good at doing bouquets, u cld purchase ur flowers from Far East Florist all Thomson very cheap and reasonable. If u hv a BS try bargaining for it.

Notredame - How was Shanti's?

Lisa - I've sent u Raffles proposal that was sent to mi in Jun. See if its helpful. Prices and menus cld hv been revised.

Went down to JB on Sat for diwali shopping. This yr really low on budget. MIL said JB very cheap. WOW! Din expect that much of good deals. Got a saree for MIL similar to one that I got my mum for her B'day in SG. Paid my mum's abt S$150. Paid his mum's RM$98. Sarees are real gorgeous there. Thinking of doin my wedding shopping there too.

special message to infinite - hey girl, was wondering if you would be interested in appearing on a tamil tv show. Just need to give your opinions on marriage. I need pple who speak good tamil. and i tot of u naturally
happy.gif

u think naomi n prav would do it?
it's a new concept and the idea of the show is pretty good..would be great if you could give ur two cents worth
happy.gif

actually any of u ladies who are interested, pls do get in touch w me.....would be really grateful!

Hi Rany.. my sis used Jinders for her engagement outfit.. the work is good and she is punctual and proffesional but the thing about her is she won't go down much on her prices.. and she is rather exp but good.

FH is from Melbourne.. can't wait to move there and get away from working life here.. hehehe.

hi sphire, could i get a copy of the raffles proposal too? my email is [email protected] thanks...
also, where in JB did you go shopping. sounds like you got some good deals.

thanks gals.

Kismet - Hv sent u the package.
Went to Gayathri. Found the gorgeous sarees there. It seems expensive in Malaysia currency. If u convert to Sg, U jus cant believe u paid so much in Sg when u cn get better one in My. Service there is much better too.

Well i had my trial with Shanthi yesterday. My impression is that she actually seems more inclined towards dramatic makeup than natural.
I felt i had way too much color and powder on my face. She used a blue-gold color on my eyes and the blush and lipstick were darker shades than i usually would pick. I felt that there was doll-like quality about the entire look - not quite natural. She was saying that i feel funny since i'm not used to bold colors, but i felt that instead of accentuating my features, the makeup seemed to swallow them up. I really started getting worried when she said this was only like 60% of what she would do on the actual day.

My FH said that both makeup artists tried to cover up too much, esp the dark circles and my eyes end up looking like they were painted on with that kinda of staring, blank expression.

Seriously considering doing my own makeup!

Notredame - I din knw Shanti does dramatic ones. Looking at the pics of some brides here who used Shanti and the one in the HWB, her's looked very natural. Did u take pic of urself after the trial? How did it turn out in the pic? Looks like I got to go for the trial wif her before confirming. I'm not a makeup person too.. and wif very bad dark eye rings.

Hey girls,

Kismet - Thanks for the tip on Jinder's. The tailor is Jinder's herself? I thought it was just the shop's name. ;) Btw, did your sister get her outfit tailor-made from fabrics? I think I have until April to decide. Will look at evening gown options at Digio too and weigh the options. So hey, are you planning to find work in Melb? How is the job situation there?

Sphire - great to hear that you had so much fun in JB!! And wow, all those great bargains!! My mother doesn't like JB too much so I guess I'm confined to shopping in Singapore.

Notredame - Did Shanthi use the blue-gold/drama look for a reason? Like is your outfit a shade of blue or gold? Or did you indicate to her that you wanted your make-up done a certain way? Like Sphire's said, some of the other brides's make-up have been very natural-looking. Did you feel your foundation was a different shade? If you have any pictures of your trials, and don't mind sharing, could I have a look? My email is [email protected].

PB - Love to help with your show but I'm effectively monolingual. Heh!

hi ladies,

Got tied up this weekend and couldn't make time for the bridal show at Suntec. Anyone went? Did i miss much?

PB- I'd like to hear more about your shopping trip in Delhi. Considering looking around in Delhi myself. Need your advice based on your experience. Could you email me at [email protected] please?

Sphire, Rany: My dress is like a turquoise blue, so i think that's why she used those colors. But i think for me, i think it's a bad idea to match your eyeshadow to your dress. It's very 1970s to me! And i also think if you do your eyes real dramatic, then your lips should be more or less nude with just a hint of color and gloss. And covering too much of your skin also lends to the unnatural quality. I mean dark circles are there to stay, period. Making them white is not gonna do you any favours.

She did suggest I use a different sari for the shoot than the one i picked, which was basically a powder blue. I think that's prob a better idea cos the other sari i have (from my grand collection of 3!!) is gold net with maroon border. It would prob look better in pics. And my FH got a nice sherwani that matches.

Anyway, i guess the bottom line is you have to feel comfortable in the makeup otherwise it will be very obvious in the pics. I don't think Shanthi is bad, but i think having a trial is definitely worth it to see if it suits you. There's no one-size-fits-all here.

PB - I hv no idea of the Gayathri address. All I knw that its near City Square Shopping Centre. Will check for the address and post it here.

SK - me went to Suntec but jus in time for the YC showcase. Liked one of the gowns. Din walk around at all.

Kismet - Which part of Mel? I was at Clayton for a short holiday...visiting my uncle. Loved the plc. Peaceful. Wht the job opportunities like? Mi in IT line and FH in aerospace... any idea?

hi all,

i m sooooo glad i found this thread.......was getting rather desperate and time running out for my dec wedding date.....

looking for contacts for:

- invitation card printers with malayalam typefont
- make-up artist -> going to try shanti
- can't think of anything else now....but i'm sure there's other stuff

any advise from you guys will be greatly appreciated

Hi Rany.. no Jinders in the name of the shop and the name of the owner.. she has her own tailors and she runs the shop with her daughter-in-law whos overseas right now and with some sales girls... she's really professional. The outfit was from jinder's but we had to get the top stiched.. she does all sorts of stiching including punjabi's suits etc etc.. so i'm sure she'll be fine....

Hi Sphire... FH lives in the city itself.. 5 mins walk from Flinders Station and Crown.. Clayton's cool esp the mall...huge! I know theres always a demand for IT, Accountants and Nurses so you should be in luck.. not sure about areospace at all.. sorry...Thinking of moving there?

hi guyz
i cancelled my riverwalk booking. Found them obnoxious and totally unaccommodating - or maybe because I am south indian? very upset with them and they did not even try to bother to ask why when I cancelled. I guess they are too rich to want my busines. Now back to square 1 and looking for a restaurant. My rom is less than 2 weeks away, and everyone is screaming at me to confirm. what do i do. FH only arrives 5 days before ROM. sigh... now on the verge of nervous breakdown

hi all.. i am new in here and my wedding is probably scheduled end of next year. i am still looking for a hotel and these have been my choices so far.
1. Ritz Carlton
2. raffles hotel

was just wanting to know whether anyone having their s at any one of these hotels and what you think of their north and south indian cuisines. any input will be appreciated.

i am still looking for make up artist and recommendations would be great ( Hi Sphire...can mail me shanti's no )

For photographer i have got my friend to do it who was actually a wedding photographer once but now have quit that line.

For the videographer i got Chan from icandovideo who is actually an indian but does chinese weddings most of the time. So it seems that his videos are more modern compared to the typical indian wedding videos.

my addy is [email protected]

welcome Reena & Raven!

Jini- Wat happened with Riverwalk? There are many indian restaurants along Boat Quay and Clark Quay. You may want to try them instead. Hang in there...

Hey gals...hope all of u had a superb weekend. I did nothing but watch tv 12 hours straight. Phew!!!

Kismet thx for the email.

Wow everyone thinking of moving to Aussie land. Well have to agree it's an amazing plc. Cant wait to move there too. Most likely going back in 2 yrs time.

Rany Jinder's is really expensive!! Knew they were costly but didnt know even their stitching is a hole in the pocket. I guess that's wat u pay for perfection. I hope they really do a great job should you decide to go with them. You might want to try speaking to tailors around serangoon before deciding though. Pick up the saree from Jinder's then get someone else to stitch it. I cant remember the shop name but there is a seamstress opposite Tekha Mkt. If i'm not wrong it's at the end of the street where u'd find Oli music. I remember a few of my frens got their saree/lengha stitched there. If i make a trip down i'll check and let u know.

Hello Reena. I'm not sure abt malayalam font but u can try Lil India. Somewhere near Woodlands Restaurant.

aprylbride thanks for that - guessing you don't have the name??

me not frequenter in lil india - but not much choice now onwards - prob start camping there given the long list of items we need to get.....

actually if anyone's got names of the printing companies, can pass to me so i can call up to enquire and shortlist....just don't know where to start now.....

many thanks in advance.....

heya
can anyone tell me whether moghul mahal - the food is nice or abt the same as riverwalk...please help..i m fainting

Hey Jini, moghul mahal hmmmmmm sorry cant help havent had a taste. Sorry. But i've heard abt them and nothing bad so far.

Care to share wat actually happened with Riverwalk. I am considering to cater from them.

Hi Raven welcome. Been to Raffles and it's beautiful. Was planning my to use the lawn but changed my mind cos FIL mentioned tat the heat may get to the guests as i was planning a afternoon event. But their coordinators have been really friendly. They also did mention that the lawn wld be really beautiful in the evening.

What events are u planning for. Give us details to get the ball rolling.

hey aprylbride,
its just that they were totally unaccomodating since day 1. I went to them several times, but they were giving me this attitude that they dont really care about the business or want the biz for that matter. You know, they did not even follow up with me when i made a booking. I am not sure about catering - maybe it could be better. But the whole incident/issue has totally pissed me and has really made me swear of the restaurant. They forget that pride comes before a fall..yes yes, i am totally pissed with them...i have to reprint my cards now

Hey Jini.. moghul is great! and the lady who runs it is brilliant. You can't bargain with her much though but the foods always excellent! i would recommend it over river walk any day..

Sorry to hear about your encounter with them but strangely your not the only one i've recently heard complaints from.. and i'm suprised..they were always really good but hmm... guess things change. sorry abt the cards, i would be hopping mad too!

Raven, welcome... been to many indian weddings at the Ritz but hmm come think if it, none of them actually served all indian food, was always a fushion of everything.. buts its so pretty...

Rany, now that Apryl mentioned it.. i just remembered too, there is this tailor on Dunlop st (may have it wrong) on the main road. The next road after jothi's... she did my saree blouse for me recently and was really good.. you might want to consider getting her to do a mock skirt for you from a not so exp material that way you can be sure of what your getting.. all the best...

Hi Ladies,
I have been away for a while and there are so many comments on our thread...Nice to know that there are so much of help around...Cant wait to come back to singapore to continue my wedding planning...I will be back in nov so dec's a great time to meet up! i read some of the comments on life after marriage...well, think i am going thru a rehearsal right now...hehehe...One thing i realised about living together as a married couple is that it involves alot of responsibilities...don know how to explain it...u know like simple things like planning yr grocery and shopping trips so that we dont overspend unnecessarily...accomodating to FH's family's wishes(even though i mite not like them)so that FH doesnt get embarassed with my tantrums.cant imagine that i wasnt even that thoughtful when i was with my parents...u see how LOVE changes a person...what i have learnt so far is that i need to take some things in life not so seriously and not let my ego get in the way...basically, just give in to things that are not important...and no matter how unhappy we are with our FH's family, we should never vent it out our hubbys...I am glad that i came to london to be with my hubby b4 our wedding...this is definitlely going to help me with my transition into a married woman. I hope that i did not bore u with my views on married life...

Kismet - Went down to flinder too. Real beautiful plc. We r planning of migrating in abt 5yrs or so. Either to Mel or Perth. Havnt been to Perth before but heard its good too. Its a plc for engineers.. so for my FH.

Jini - So sorry to here abt RW. Hvnt tried moghul mahal. Actually if u dont mind serving a mixture of north and south, why not try the resturants at race course lane? Gaythri Resturant is my favourite... or u could go for Muthu's curry. Their new fusion cusine looks very gortic.

Raven - Wellcome on board. Hv sent u Shanti's contact. Hv not been to both hotels.. so cant comment. Does Chan hv a website? Hv u seen his works?

Reena - Welcome on board too. I guess most indian printers shd hv fonts of a few indian dilects. Y not try interactive printers? A previous bride here had a great expreience with them. U cld check if they hv malayalam fonts.

Hi Kayla, since we r back to my favourite topic...Life after marriage.... i'm totally taking the opposite approach...i've made it pretty clear to Fiance tat i'll try to control anger in front of in-laws but will have to vent it out somewhere and guess what...i said i'm gonna blow at you...hahhahahaha. I know tats unfair but i think rather then i bottle it up and suffer i'd just get it off my chest. Of course i dun expect him to do anything just be there for me when it comes to unhappy moments wid in-laws. It's gonna be rare but i'm all ready for it. In-laws r aLL GREAT but am prepared for 360deg turn after moving in. I prefer to expect the worst and be really happy if i'm wrong.
