Indian wedding Services in Singapore

Jo's saree is beautiful. Pink has never crossed my mind. Probably now i'll consider. She looks so sweet in the smiling pic.
Dont u ladies think Jo's eyes and checks are a little overdone?
Although her jewels are really nice, but the somehow dont go with her saree. The arm band and waist band are in yellow gold. Find it too contrasting.

Kayla - Thts so sweet of u to keep awake. Hope tomorow would be good for u.

Rany - Guess ur mum jus wants the best for u. Is this the first function she's doing after a very long break? If it is, tht'll explain y. *Hugs*
Wow! U r so lucky not the hv the traditional saree. Heard tht saree weights tons. That bride in HWB hairdo was nice. Liked the one she had for the gown. Thinking of hv it for my banquet.

hey rany...think she will say whats best once she sees the sari..what material is urs then? mine is the kancheepuram silk one and it does weigh quite a bit..and add on to the plait and the rakoodi i think ill weigh a few kilos more on that day...bride with a burden...

Agree with Sphire about Jyothika's accessories, the silver accessories don't quite go with armband and waistband. But pink is a gorgeous colour on her. And I think her make-up's pretty good! Esp love her eye make-up. I also like their garlands!! No mish-mash of colours in a single garland. Anyone knows what flowers are used in the red garland?

But you know what, if Jo was to be a bride in Singapore, surely cannot make it lah. Most of the women guests will surely outdo her in terms of saree and jewellery!! ;)

Infinite - Erm...actually, come to think of it, I know the off-white saree is a crepe silk. But I honestly have no idea about the red/green one! They said it was silk. But I don't know what type. Eeeks!! I think when I go back in April to make the blouse, I'll ask then. Do you have anything lined up after the wedding?? I hope not because I can imagine how exhausted you'll be by the end of it, carrying all that weight ard.

Sphire - Brother's wedding was 12 years ago. So I guess you can say it has been a long break for my mother. But what's worse was, they organised it all by themselves. Got to give it to them, they were smart and knew better! So now my mother has all this pent up energy and excess baggage from his wedding and is hitting back with a vengence at mine just because we told her she can pay for the temple and banquet.

Anyhow, enough ranting, yeah, I do think the hairdo was nice. Your hair does seem about the same length so yeah, it's a good option!

Rany - Maybe tht clears the pic. My bro handled everything. Now she wants to hv a say with urs. Guess its all so natural. Thts wht my ILs are doing since they hv no say in my SIL's wedding. Its really getting on my nerves. Now wht ever we do, I told my FH not to inform his family at all. All they knw is that we hv book the hotel. Tht's it.

Not sure wht the red flower is. it does look unqiue and not so heavy as the ones in Sg. Prob in Sg ppl will give tons of comments.

Dont think I'll hv anything to line up after the wedding. But probably will host a mini lunch at my new hm with a week. To thank my immediate relatives from travelling back to Sg jus to be there for mi.

Thot that was a wig? My hair is extremely straight and uneven.

Rany - hv u done ur trial with Shanti? Jus called her. thot of going for trial with her. But she said choose gowns first. So most prob in Dec. After trial then decide on her service.

hI EVERYONE....Just wanted to drop in and say hi and yes...am still alive.
happy.gif
Am now in Southampton uni THANL GOD ITS FRIDAY. I;m just about to leave to go back to london where I will meet hubby after work and wewill both drown our sorrows from the tough week we have had.
INFINITE: HAWAII!!!!!HOW COULD U GO THERE WHEN I AM HERE IN LONDON!?!?! no..just kidding. Hawaii will be fun....but come here if u can.....i miss u guys sooooo much. Good luck all in wedding preps.

hi infinite, me and hubby want to go to hawaii too..we're planning either the bahamas or hawaii late next yr. Hope our plans work out...

Mabel, good to hear from you..have a nice weekend ya. Hey, what happen to your wedding photos..any to share?

Sphire - Don't worry about the hair. There's curlers and hairspray to take care of it. ;) Btw, nope, not gone for trial yet. Shanti suggests doing the trial for the banquet look so she recommends I get what I want to wear for the banquet and then based on what it looks like, we can have a trial.

SK - It sure looks like those ginger flowers doesn't it?? Must weigh a ton for the entire garland though!

Mabel - Hey girl, hang in there. Do you live on campus through the week and on weekends in London with hubby? How's campus life? Hope people are friendly and warm to you.

Rany - When u met up with Shanti wht did u actually discuss with her? I asked her for a meet up and she asked mi what I wanna discuss abt. Realised I hv nothing to ask. Feel so uncomfortable with no black and white. Of cos Shanti is professional. She really sounds too.

Sphire - They didn't showcase a lot of wedding lehengas or saris. In fact there were only 3 wedding lehengas and those were not something i would consider for my wedding. It was more a show for various indian designers' fusion wear and some designs of Kavita Tulasidas of Stylemart. They featured some of the Stylemart 'gowns' which i didn't personally like. You didn't miss much by not attending. I'll have to go down to Stylemart personally to see their bridal lehenga collection.

Sphire - Come to think of it, I really didn't have all that much to ask Shanti when we met up. We asked her how we'd go about with the trial, the photoshoot and the actual wedding day. Our ideas/preferences for a certain look e.g hair up or down. And then we went over the rates again and that was pretty much it.

Yeah, I managed to go for the Stylemart fashion show in the end and I think this was my second show in more than a decade! But I don't remember it being so chi-chi. It was like a Tatler function where all the tai-tais and women of leisure gathered. My friend and I felt very out of place. But as for the selection, only one caught my eye and that was a mod-look turquoise dress that ended above the knees. It had a high-colloar and long sleeves. VERY NICE but might not have been suitable for a banquet though. As for bridal lenghas, yep, I agree with SK, not much was featured on the runway.

SK - My friend and I were saying how we can easily get some of the stuff featured on the runway at neighbourhood markets or at Metro. Don't you think so too??? And the whole time, we were making fun of the models. One of them could not catwalk right. She kept kicking her knees up so high like a horse would!

Rany - Exactly my reaction too!! The prices they were charging were for the designer labels. The models weren't really professional at all. Some of them were so stiff and had difficulty walking in sarees. My cousin n i were sort of making fun of them too :p.

SK/ Rany - kekekek.. luckily din go for the show.
Hope the food was good.

Actually mi once saw a punjabi suit very nice in Stylemart. Liked it but over budget. Went to various shops and ended in teka market. Found a simlar suit in one of the shops for a fraction of the price. Bargain somemore and bought it.
On another occasion, my sis got a saree for $400 at Stylemart and I got another of similar material and simlar works for abt $200 at another shop.
So Look around before settling for something in Stylemart.
If u wanna get lengahs, there is a north indian butique along the main road. They sell lengah materials. so u cn sew ur lengah to ur own design. But on the other hand, all of us know that Stylemart is professional and u cn garantee a very good workmanship from them. Professionalism has price packed to them.
proud.gif

hi Sphire,

Are you talking about Jinder's? Its a few shops down from Stylemart? Stylemart does have nice stuff however i dont agree about the workmanship bit. Had to get them to re-do my engagement outfit 3 times. For the prices they charge, the workmanship isn't great. My aunt even had to specify what sort of buckle/hooks they should use.

SK- Nope.. not jinder's. It along the stretch of teka market. Dont rem the shop name. They dont hv inhse tailor. They jus sell materials ready to be sewn. Will find out the shop name.
Stylemart that bad ah? I thot they were good.

SK - Sorry to hear of your lengha exp with Stylemart. I hope they're better with sarees then. Cos so far, I've bought the wedding sarees from them so I'll need them to go back to tailor-make the blouse and petticoat.

Hey, if anyone is printing your own cards for banquet or whatever, or if you're looking for nice shantung silk photo albums, try this place at Bras Basah Complex. It's called Tink. At #03-47.

The shantung silk albums (with 180 slip-in pockets) only cost about $65! They have various types of albums (slip-in pockets, black paper types, shantung silk cover, normal paper cover, hardcover, etc). As for cards/programmes or inserts, they can design it for you and print them or you can choose one of the existing designs.

Anyone of you thought about your footwear for the temple wedding? Is it better to get one with heels or without?

I'm afraid that when we tie the saree, it's going to be of a certain height and then when you wear your heels, it's going to look like Singapore flooded. But if you tie it longer, it'll look great when you have your footwear on, but will look too long and won't fall nicely when you're going barefoot. Dilemma!

Hi Rany - do u need to go back to stylemart for your blouse? Cos there's this other lady i go to in Serangoon rd, her blouses are perfect in terms of tailoring and fit - be it halter or string ones..hehe. The only thing though is its better if u have some design in mind..and then she can improvise..i cant remember wat its called but its in one of the lanes, its opposite halal foods i think..

Jus heard yesterday i mite need to go chennai in oct for work..dun mind actually, can go and recce some sari shops and favour places...Hey Infinite..lemme know if you got the contacts from your MIL k...Thanks....

Chick - Is that Ladies Center? I always tailor my blouses there. Good personal service. They always welcome ur own designs too. I always give my own. kekek.

Rany - I'll probably go for short heels or no heels. Its only goin to be for the travellings. Hence something more comfortable.

Hi Sphire..Yah..Thats it! U gonna do wedding blouse there as well? U've got time lah gal, only need it in 2008 right...?

Hi Rany..think i'll go for the minimal heels thingy as well..

Hi everyone. So glad I chanced upon this thread, if only i had found this earlier. Lots going on, and very nice to see everyone exchanging views.
I'm getting married on 07/07/07...
Nice date, but having problems with a lot of things...like PG and VG...all fully booked.

Also, since im doing it at a wedding hall, i will need to find my own deco people. Looking for something classy.

Anyone with good contacts.

Booked by BS - FB at Tanjong Pagar. Saw a gown i liked, and i had to have it.

Having problems with lengha now. Everything looks the same in all the shops except for Sheetal. They have really good outfits, but way over my budget.

Know of any other good places? Or designer who can custom-make?

Chick - Yup. I'll most prob would do it there. Not so soon lah. Prob late next yr. But I always tailor all my other saree blouses there. Very neat workmanship.

For punjabi suit alteration, girls try the tailor above teka market. 1 indian lady and 1 chinese man. Very good. But never tried saree blouse with them.

Hi Sha - Welcome on board. 7/7/7 is really a hot date. Sure all fully booked...kkekeke. No worries. The girls here real helpful. R u looking for indian PG and VG?

Wedding Hall? Where? Temple would hv their own decorators. If its at other places, probably u cld check out the venue if they hv inhse deco or recommend any. If else u cld stroll dwn Arab street for the malay ones. Malays are always good at deco.

Felin Bridal or French Bridal? French gowns are nice.

Lenga.. u cld hv a few options. But OTR, tailor make or rent (like mi..kekeeke)
If u wanna get lengahs materials, there is a north indian boutique along the teka main road. They sell lengah materials. so u cn sew ur lengah to ur own design. Dont rem the shop name. Once I've got the name will post it here.

Rany - For simple sari blouse, the Stylemart tailor is ok but u'd be better off going to some other tailor in Serangoon Rd who would be able to do a better job at a better price.

Sha - Welcome, gal!

Hello. Wah, so far...so fast...so good

For VG & Pg - i want a more modern touch. So prolly gonna try and get one of the more professional ones. But so far, all reply saying booked.

Wedding will be at Grassroots club - doing a solomnisation by church pastor, followed by indian dinner...
Good thing there is that you can cater indian food from anywhere, so will probably look for a good rest to do catering. Plus, I'm north indian and FH is south, so we gona get a mix of both.

No temple / traditional wedding going on, so it'll all end in an evening. The only exciting thing is that i will be doing a Henna cum Sangeet evening 2-3 days before wedding. Not sure of the concept yet.

BS is French B. Excellent gowns, but not sure about their EG. Not taking EG for AD, so not too bothered about that. Wearing gown for first walk-in, then change into lengha.

My package comes with MUA for AD. But now, duno if i would want to trust them to do make up for my indian wear?

Also tried Bubbly last week, she's good.
Guess, i'll just go for trial with BS first before deciding.

Oh, the Malay Decos are located at Arab st? Ok, will go check out.

SOmeone posted a Malay wedding deco done at the void deck. Excellent deco. Anyone knows the contact of the Deco co?

Sphire - False. I had to pay for my sari blouse stitching at Stylemart.

SHa/fusion_bride - Interesting. What are you planning for your henna/sangeet? I'm Sikh so i'll be having a sangeet too.

M in a dilemma abt how to go abt having the henna ceremony. It is said that ideally henna should be applied 2 days before the wedding ceremony as it takes abt 48 hrs for the colour to peak. I'm planning my oil ceremony for friday morning and the sangeet for friday evening. Dont want to have the henna done on saturday as the colour will not peak on time for the wedding on sunday morning. So wondering if i shld get henna done between the oil ceremony n sangeet or at the sangeet itself. Problem is, if the oil ceremony starts late, it may be a rush to finish the henna and make it in time for the sangeet. Alternatively, if i have the henna done at the sangeet itself, will it be too troublesome as the sangeet is taking place at Khalsa? Need help ladies....

By the way, what sort of henna designs do u ladies have in mind? I'm a person who's not a fan of henna and i've always said that i'll have minimal or no henna at all for my wedding. Now that i'm actually getting married, i'm thinking of going all out n having henna done till my elbows! :p What are you ladies planning?

SK - I love henna, and i think this will probably be the only time in our lives that we'll actually have fully designed hands. SO do go all out. I heard that this lady by the name of Gandhi is really good. Dont have her contact though. But you can engage her through Looks.

I would love to do it all the way to my elbow, but beacuse i will be in a wedding gown prior to the indian outfit, i may just do it till the wrist.

About the henna - the modern way of doing it is quite a cool idea actually. The girl will have it done in the privacy of her own home a day before the sangeet. So you can still combine your sangeet and henna night, just that the henna has been wahsed off. Makes it easier to move around, plus you kill 2 birds with one stone.

So in you case, you can apply henna on Thur, in time for Sangeet on Fri.
Just a suggestion.

Anyway, anyone know of a place for good and reasonable wedding favours? Or place where i can get boxes to put chocs or indian sweets?

oh...just to share, i just managed to secure a VG. Thank God. But of course, i had to pay a higher price...no choice....next time must think 10 times before considering holding a special event on a special date like 7/7/7...:-(

Ok, one down...a thousand more to go...hope i get lucky with a PG

Fusion_bride - Bubbly has lenghas... did u take a look? I'm gonna rent the red one for my banquet (if no new designs coming in). 1 matter off ur head..kekekek. Who is ur VG? Wanna mi to add u to the table?
Today Arab st openning lightings. So gonna be real crowded for the next 1 mth.

SK - Not sure if i'll go for henna on my banquet. But i'll definately do it for my AD. Probably till the wrist. Cos for the Sth indians, bangles hv to be put on before henna that is 2 days before AD.
I knw of this lady Selvi. She has a open shop in teka mall (not sure if its still there). Used to put henna at her's very deepavali. So this time when I c her, will get her contact. Her designs are really nice.

hi ladies,

fusion_bride/Sphire - The thing is my oil ceremony will take place on friday mroning and i can't get my henna done before this ceremony. So i think i'll have the oli ceremony as early as possible then have the henna lady come over imeediately to do my henna. As the sangeet will only start around 7.30pm that evening, i shld have time to get henna done and have it dried and scraped off.

Hey guys!

Welcome Fusion Bride! Who have you tried for PGs?

Alright, I think I'll opt for low heels too then. Makes more sense. It's just I love looking taller. hee!

Chick - Yeah, you'll prob need your shoes on if and when you go down to the dining hall to mingle with guests. Plus, you'll need them after the wedding when you have to go back to your family's place for some ceremony. Not sure if this ceremony is mandatory. ;)

Sphire - For henna for Sth indians, do we have a ceremony too??? Does the henna artist come to our home or do we go to their shop to get it done?

SK - I love this henna design! It's from www.riffat.co.uk.

Sphire - Does Ladies Center do petticoats and the lining at the bottom edge of the sarees (forgot what's it called)?

Hmmm...still torn. Because my sarees have got quite extensive stonework, I worry about sending them elsewhere to have the lining done.

But like you, I was expecting the blouse/petticoat/lining to be done FOC at Stylemart, but when they told me it was chargeable, I tried very hard to contain my surprise.

Rany - Hi dearie. Mi love to look tall too... wht to do. Unless Sg is really flooded.. then we hv an excuse..kekekek
Its not a ceremony. But a ritual. Henna's are put for the bride after her bangal ceremony. The lady has to come to bride's plc cos the bride is not suppose to step out of hse after the bangal r on. The guys henna will be put after the thali ceremony at his plc. Normally its the old fasion kind where ur fingers look asif bandaged. Now tht'll be replaced for the modern designs.. Love the above design. Kewl..dont need bangles...kekeke. Cld i copy it too?...kekekek C if my lady cld gv mi something similar.
Ladies Center does do petticoats to ur size and also the falls (bottom of saree). U cld try ladies center.. they r quite experience. My sarees do contain stoneworks and they do marvelous job. Or besides, I heard there's a north indian tailor at the New Park Hotel. Try checking them out too.

Anyone knws where I cn get punjabi suit designs? Mi got material and wanna a unique look. Intending to use it for photo shoot.

Hi Sphire, how long does the henna last? my church wedding is 2 wk after the temple weddng n the henna wont really go with the gown i think..

Also, erm are the pre-wedding rituals done at bride's place? cos i think for my case it'll prob b done at my FH's place..is there any issue with doing this?

Hi gals....sorry been MIA. Busy wid work. I tot i'll add my 2c regarding Stylemart. You gals r so rite abt them over charging. Had an experience whr i got my saree stiched there...was told it'll $x cant remember been 5 yrs. I was charged i think btw $30-$50 more. Had an argument regarding the price but was told that their designer came up with something totally different from wat the usual saree wld be. Well tat was because i specifically gave pointers abt my saree to the designer who i must say understood me very well. Goodness they tried to cheat me after seeing the fantastic outcome but it was my design with a little suggestion from the designer and of course hardwork. Well in the end i gave in....the designer is no longer there from wat i understand. They'll tell you how exclusive their pieces are etc etc. Honestly i can get better stuff walking down Serangoon at affordable prices. So gals get good material and design it yourself. Try Jinder's but i think they r a little pricey too also try Vastram. I heard they do custom-made outfits, designer-like.

Hey Sk, r u doing ur oil ceremony at home?? if u r then i think u can finish by noon if you start ard 10am. Get ur henna started rite away. But make sure ur henna artist is there early so there r no delays. Attended a frens oil/henna ceremony and when the oil ceremony ended close to noon, the henna artist who was suppose to be there at noon only arrived at 3pm. Make sure she knows diretion to ur plc otherwise tat'll be a huge excuse. Luckily for my fren, her sangeet was the next day.

Will get back to you gals soon k.

For PG, i've tried Gid Koh, Colordots, Expressively, Tsang, AMPM, Nick G.
Any comments on the photog, or who woudl you reccomend.
Also, I need Pg to shoot from 6.30pm-11.30pm, 250 4R and CDR of all pics. What do you think is a reasonable budget?
One photog has quoted me $750. ok/

Saphire - on rental of lengha, what's the rough cost?

Also, i came across this other bridal co at East Coast. You may be interested.
http://www.sahelibridalhouse.com/

Last thing to add...i love the outfits from sheetal. Have you seen theior website. Basically you can order anything you like in any of their avail colours. But expect to pay a bomb. You can opt to see the SGD pricing.
http://www.sheetalindia.com/home.aspx

hi all...

I sort of have a henna design in mind. Just need to find someone who can do it. Have a contact for henna, lets see if she can do it. Will view her portfolio first.

AprylBride - Yup. My oil ceremony will be done at home and i intend to do exactly as you said. Hopefully the henna artist coms on time.By the way, who was your friend's henna artist? Was she good? Do you have her contact?

fushion_bride - Can't comment on the PGs you mentioned but i had Jayce from jaycephotography.com and he did a great job. You can see my ROM pics on his website. You could check with him.

Will be off to India for work tomorrow. Wonder if i'll be able to squeeze in some time to check out wedding lehegas. Already know what i want. ;p

Hey SK - have a good trip. Hopefully you can squeeze in the time for the lenghas!

Sphire - Of course can copy design! I'm copying it off the internet too. Hee! Hey, when you get the contact of your henna artist, keep us posted, ok? Thanks too for the tip on Ladies Centre. Since I'm so torn, what I might do is give Ladies Centre one saree to do and the other I'll give Stylemart to do. ;)

Btw, are we on for Friday? Chick, if you're reading this, keep us posted on your availability. I'll email you'all my contact number.

Chick - if the henna doesn't go off in 2 weeks, you can try gloves to go with your gown. That should look very classy!! ;)

Fusion - Try K C Wong(www.greymatterphotography.com) or Eadwine Lay (www.Plushphotography.com.sg). They are pretty good too. But I reckon they cost more than $750. Or you could try Edmund Leong www.edmundleong.com. Some of the girls were talking about using him. $750 is a good price though. For round that price, you might also want to try Christopher Pearce www.chrisppics.com.

I was torn between Lighted Pixels, Expressively and Plush, but after meeting with Expressively, and when I saw how he made my fiance feel really comfortable, we've booked him for our wedding. I think chemistry between couple and photographer is really impt and will make the shoot really comfortable.

Chick - Not sure how long the henna last. Probably 2 wks or less. Depends how often u wash ur hands..and do household chorus, which I dont...kekeke. U cld consider wearing gloves. I'm considering wearing gloves for my banquet. Looks classic.
Norms,.. bangle ceremony is done at the bride's and thali is done at the groom's. In ur case it could be exceptional. Jus like the $40M wedding.. everything was done at Ritz.

Fusion_bride - I like Tsang approach. Find is works something different. But he was already booked on my date. KC Wong is also good. Edmund charged mi $600 for 6 hrs. Package incls 200 pics in album, softcopies of edited and all taken.
LOOKS told me $300 when I signed and $350 when I called again. So guess around there.

Rany - I feel so bad now. I got to cancel it. My grandma has jus been admitted over the weekend for a broken leg. Doc said she has to be in Hos for 6mths. Now practically everyday a trip to hos is a ritual. Sorry for messing it up.
Will definately keep u updated on the henna lady.
