Hi Ladies,

Been away from this site for quite sometime and look how its progressed! Have been down with a nasty case of flu, cough and throat inflamation this week. Its been so bad that i've had to postpone my appointments with Oriental and Conrad
sad.gif
. Just as i try to get something done, something comes along to slow it all down
sad.gif
. Anyway, hopefully i make some progress next week
happy.gif
.

Btw, how does one go about getting tickets for the Stylemart show? Do we get them at stylemart itself? Have they got anything specific to showcase interms of bridal wear?

Sphire- We got a flat at punggol :-)
our PG and VG is by Nasir. Temple wedding is at the Yishun temple. BS is S*letar broadway.

Bridzella- Im still thinkin about where to go for our honeymoon. Since we have overshot out renovation budget, we are thinking of going somewhere near by and romantic..with shopping too. Prior to that we wanted to travel to gold coast.

SK- oh dear, do take care ya.

Updates:
I went for facial with bubbly's mom yesterday. She seemed good. She seems to really do what is necessary for the skin and is not harsh. I usually come back with marks on my face after facials (who press unnecceasrily according to bubbly's mom). She gave me two creams (AHA N BHA) to use. I was suprised when the creams didnt cost me much. The creams are to get rid of the black marks left over by past pimples and to give me a brighter looking complexion. It is also supposed to help with my uneven skin tone. The second cream which i m to use at night is to prevent future pimples from forming etc. Remember i told u guys i had a bad freak breakout recently? I have to use this for 3 weeks and then she will review. She is trained to use facial peels and all. But only recommends them if it is necessary.

Well lets see if her creams work and hope by the time my wedding day comes i have good radiant skin! haha

Sphire - no problem, i understand how it must be awkward for a bloke to be sitting at a table with heaps other women just yapping away about fashion and wedding plans. just let me know if you're deciding to go.
happy.gif

Sarah - welcome back. great to see your reno works are taking shape! As for honeymoon ideas, how about Thailand? Or Cambodia (Siem Reap)? I'd sugg Bali but the place is just so wrought with trouble these days it makes you wonder when it'll be safe to go back there again.

SK - Ooh, does sound like you caught something nasty. Get sufficient fluids and rest, k? Yup, you have to get the tickets from Stylemart. Not quite sure if they're showcasing bridal wear. But there are going to be new stuff showcased, some of which can be used for banquet.

Does anyone have any idea where to get nice wedding favour boxes that is large enough for a ladu and some candy??

Hi Ladies

Holly - Sorri lady. Thanks for the photos. Hvnt got the tm to c it. Will catch it soon.

Chick - Gal, hv sent u Stage4 contact. Sorri for the delay. Hv confirmed my package with Edmund over the weekend.

SK - Do take care.Drink more water.

Sarah - New flat is it? FH dont like new estates. I'm like lost. Donno where to look for hse.
Nice to hear abt the facial. Update us. Hw much did u spend jus for the faical? I've never been to facial before.
Thot of goin puket then fly down to bankok? Heard its quite reasonable if u do this.

Rany - Sure, dear. Will keep u updated. But looks like its gonna be a no.

Kayla - Wow! Thts a very detailed weekend. kekeke. OCC is really beautiful. U got buggy too..

)
Never caught the Ms Vasantham. Hardly got tm to watch TV. Made a point to watch Sg Idol only. Even tht din catch last week. Hv a great trip ahead.

infinite - Thts very long wait. BTO is it?

Hi Sphire,

The details that i provided ie the PG&VG,MUA are only for my wedding...still haven source out for my banquet...hehehe...Sorry for not indicating properly...

Ya OCC seemed to be the right one since we were unwilling to cut down on our guestlist...Plus we can bring in our own caterer...we took the buggy...hehehe...Wedding planning seems alright. Banquet and other thing like invitations and wedding favors etc will be settled when i come back in Dec. FH dropped a bomb on me when he said that he's thinking of holding a banquet in london for his family and frens...I almost dropped dead! Imagine sourcing out for things in an unfamiliar country. I still remember when i had my parisam in london...i was crossing my fingers and toes that the MUA (recommended by my SIL) would be good...Luckily, everything went smoothly...Don want to go thru all the uncertainties again...I told him that we can just give an informal dinner or visit them personally...I rather do that than go thru another banquet!

Thanks in advance for updating again Sphire! Actually i like watching Miss Vasantham cos they will showcase clothes from Sponsors like Hanifa and Stylemart etc...

Kayla - No worries. Will amend the table accordingly.
Probably u cld get someone in London to help u with the arrangements. Probably a wedding planner? A hse party? Saw in the latest Style Wedding Magazine, the singer Vasanthi had her wedding in Canada Disneyland. Looks very magical.
So far hows the Ms Vasantham? Heard my cousin is in.. Gayathri. My mum said she not nice...kekekee. So mean ah?

Sphire - no probl. will ring Stylemart up and let her know.

Infinite - thanks for the tip on the wedding favour bags. if memory serves correct, i think the company's called Interactive. will chk it out.

Kayla - good on you for getting so much done! Now you can have a stress free trip. Enjoy, girl! Btw, you mentioned you had some links on ceremonial rites for a south indian wedding. Could you send me the links pretty pleeese? I don't know what they;re called but they're the types practiced in Sg. Vaguely remember its something to do with 3 married aunties who have to tie something round a plant, parents on both sides exchange trays, etc. Sorry, don't quite know specifically what type of South Indian wedding this is.

Hi ladies,

Thanks for all your well wishes. M drinking lots of water but its been a whole week n i'm still not a 100%. Think i need to visit the doctor again...

I've booked my tickets for the Stylemart show as i probably will be getting my wedding lehenga locally (good to see whats in the market). My mom, aunt and cousin will be tagging along. Anyone else attending?

Was at Oriental last evening and both my hubby and i loved it. They are will to accomodate our needs and we r 70% sure that Oriental's gonna be the place for our reception. However we r going to Conrad tomorrow and unless Conrad can make a better offer, we will go with Oriental.
happy.gif

Sphire, were you there last evening by any chance? Saw an indian couple with Yiwen before our appointment. Wondering if it was you.

Rany - Thanks for the offer on Stylemart ger. My schedules are also quite tight at the moment. Sorry.

SK -Great that u were happy with Oriental. How many tables are u lookin at? Hope u din show Yiwen my menu? Dont even mention abt it to her. I find that Yiwen is not so giving. Got to really push hard. I was at Oriental yesterday from 6.30pm to 7pm. U were there? Din c u. FH was not feeling too well. So more focused on him. Din c around. Next time c, say heloo okie?.. kekeke. Saw a fleet of ferraris. Was wondering if its Ferrari Club grathering at Oriental.

Don't worry Sphire, i didn't mentioned you at all. Anyway i'm quite happy with the Indian menu provided and they r willing to accomodate some changes in the dishes. Might want to do 1 or 2 mediteranian dishes too...I pretty much asked for the basics and she was willing to meet with those...What did you ask for that she wasn't so giving? Maybe can email me at [email protected] to share. So it was you yesterday. My hubby n i were standing in the lobby. Hubby was probably the tallest guy around in the lobby (6ft 3)...Saw the ferraris too
happy.gif

We are expecting between 150-200 guests so wld be looking at the Atrium Suite...

SK - U liked their indian menu??? Felt it was pathetic. At first din even considered Oriental becos of the menu. But kind of liked the ballroom and it was exactly wht we really wanted. In the end had to get the whole thing redone and paid a price for tht too. Will mail u. Care to share ur menu? Cos I'm still not happy with my starters. Wanna something more substantial. Options given were not appealing. Willing to top-up a little more.

Wow! Ur hubby is really tall.. oh! oh! We must the shortest ppl there...kekeke.

Ferraris were kewl. Mi and FH are car finatics. We ate our dinner and came back to watch the ferraris. There were 6 ferraris and 2 Masarati (king of sports cars) and 2 porche. So many parkers to guide to park 1 ferrari. Real eye wash. Luckily FH din valet park his car. Paiseh.

Sphire, I agree that the starters aren't fantastic. But the total number of dishes is ok for us. We'll probably try to get the dishes proposed substituted to some other stuff we like. That we'll discuss once we confirm the venue and get a chance to meet with the chef etc. I'm not gonna top up anymore. Will just change the style of cooking of the dishes.

Loved the Masarati parked with the 2 Ferraris!

Sphire,

Emailed you the menu proposed by Oriental. We are going for the buffet option and not the Indian set menu. If i'm not mistaken the menu you forwarded me last time was a set menu?

SK - My email has some prob at the moment. Cant seem to login. Will send u the mail once its possible. Yup.. mi going for sit down as my tables are stretching to 40. Buffet wld be a mess. We always preferred table serve. Goin to table serve for temple wedding as well.
Thanks for the mail. If i rem, the buffet spread was good. Will c if urs is the same. If else will also mail u the buffet spread given to us so u cn hv more options.

Sphire- No wonder. Of course the set menu isn't the same as buffet spread. The buffet spread for weekend vs weekday wedding will also differ. My reception will take place on a Monday so a few lesser dishes compared to the weekend spread. I'm quite happy with what i'm getting
happy.gif
.
My crowd not as large as yours so it'll be easier to manage a buffet plus we'd like the guest to mingle too.

SK - would you mind sharing your Oriental buffet package with me? i'm at [email protected] Thks heaps! We might have to consider changing venue becos the smaller room at Hyatt might not be avail for the date we want (we might be bring the wedding fwd by 3 mths).

Rany - You've got mail!
happy.gif

Had our meeting with Conrad but we are most likely to go with Oriental. The menu's better at Oriental. The menu at Conrad doesnt include items like naan or tandoori bread or north indian desserts. They dont have their own tandoor (clay oven).

hi ladies,

I have a question for all of you. I see that majority if not all of you have signed up with a bridal studio. I can understand those who are going to have a church wedding. As you will be needing a wedding gown, it makes sense to sign up with one. But what about those who arent having a church wedding? Have u signed up for photography purpose only? Cos hubby and i are thinking of doing the whole pre-wedding studio/outdoor photography. However i'd rather have a tailor sew me a few indo-western outfits which i could use for the photoshoot and maybe wear at the reception. I think this would be cheaper. I'd like to get a photographer of my choice then take the photos. Will this be a wise thing to do? Will i save money this way? Your comments and suggestions would be very much appreciated.

SK - Thanks for the menu!! Appreciate it!! Can i ask how much is that per person and what does the package cover?

Much like you, although i'm not having a church wedding, i would like a pre-wedding photoshoot and because I won't be wearing a wedding gown on my wedding day, I want to be pictured in one. ;) So i've signed up with a bridal studio only for the rental of a wedding gown and suit for a photoshoot - was about $1300. I didn't take their package (evening gown, make-up, photography, etc). We'll be going with an independent/freelance photographer for the shoot.

In terms of costs, it'll be more expensive to do everything ala carte quite honestly. Bridal studios offer quite comprehensive pkages for about $1988. But because we didn't like their photography styles, we opted to go ala carte which will cost us abt $4500 in total (outfits, photographer, make-up, etc). But then again, it depends on how much your tailoring and your photographer would cost.

Hi ladies,
how have u all been? Sorry for the late reply dearies. needed some time to unpack...its quite sunny here! gonna become tanned...

Rany- here's the link dear...
http://www.shaadionline.com/wedding-rituals.asp

SK- I am not having a church wedding too...and i would be going for the whole Bridal studio package including the outfit changes, Indoor/Outdoor PG. Don think i would tailor outfits such as gowns or lengha cos firstly, they are costly and secondly they would only be worn once. Don mind buying a sari though. But i am sure that you have to tailor for your wedding, SK. Actually, the bridal package is more for convenience sake since everything's will be taken care of...But of course, one wouldnt be happy with everything in the package eg Makeup, outfits, PG style etc...so maybe thats why some people go ala carte...

Rany - Since my dinner reception is on a weekday, the rate quoted is $78.80+++ per head for indian buffet. I believe the weekend rate is higher. Package covers basics like 1 night stay, invitation cards (without printing), favours, decor choice, cake with 1 real tier, parking for guests etc...Anything else is for you to negotiate. I was very impressed by the presentation given. Their ballroom is definitely better than Hyatt's.

Thanks Kayla/Rany. I guess the reason i didn't sign up with a bridal studio was because i know i wont be happy with everything in the package. That's why considering ala carte. Will think about the photoshoot...*sigh*

Hi ladies.
Was busy clearing up my call centre for audit.

Rany - considering Oriental too? Weekend price is at $880+++ per table. Its ex but the service is so much better than any hotels i've liased with. Hyatt was also good but Orientl was better. In terms of perks, Hyatt is so much better and value for money.

Kayla - hey gal. Hope u r doing good.

SK - gal, i've sent u a mail. Happy to get another Oriental bride here.

I'm not hving a church wedding. But I'm gonna wear a WG during my solemnization. Gonna hv page boys and flower gals. My package incl. gowns for flower gal, page boy suit, car deco, jackets for dads, MTM pants for FH for keep, bouquets and of cos photos. Its more hassel free as its more OSB. Package cost $3K. So find it quite reasonable.

Thanks Kayla, SK, Sphire!

Kayla - Thanks for the link, girl. Will pore through the different types of ceremonies this weekend to see which is closest to one we'll be doing. What about you, which one's yours? Say, how long will you be in London for? It's good the sun's out. English weather is rather dreary most of the year.

SK, Sphire - Thanks for the info, girls! Will ask Oriental for a proposal today and maybe make an appt to see their rooms either this weekend or next.

Yeah, I do agree, it is a wee bit ex for the weekend. But if Hyatt's Camelia room is well and truly unavailable, then we might have to go with Hibiscus (which is a min of 250pax - wkend) and because of this, we might be incurring more in inviting more people when our current guestlist is only about 150-180 pax. So in terms of cost, it might eventuate that we'd be paying less to have our banquet at Oriental. Dilemmas!!

Say, would you'all know who arranges the tables and chairs for the receptions at the temple? Temple staff or catering staff? Can friends/family do it? I'd really like to have them arranged in a diff manner (have two long stretches of tables put together so that its wide enough to accommodate people on both sides - makes sitting together with friends and family more fun). I'd also like to buy table runners for the long stretches. What do you'all think?

Rany - Weekends at Hyatt is only $998nett with beer and wine. In Oriental its $880+++ which comes to abt $1030 without beer and wine. All depends in the end wht u require. Either prepared to spend more $$ on per head or spend for more heads. I knw hyatt has the best indian food but I felt the room was equally impt. Hence went for Oriental. I was willing to spend more $$ per head as those I'm inviting are really goin to be there for us throu the wedding and after years.

For temple, I think its arranged by the temple itself. I think its chargable too. So if u wanna another setup, u cld tell them or engage ur caterer to do it. Not really sure.

Hi gals...tis site is like a saviour for indian brides in Singapore... well for starters do u think i can get help with regards to package from Oriental.

Am looking at Oriental but wanna know wat have you gals managed to negotiate. If u dun mind. And who shld i be speaking to.

Have read fair bit abt Oriental on other threads but nothing related to indian weddings. Have they done indian weddings there...wats the set up like...so sorry so new and yet so many qs.

hi gals...for those of u contemplating whether to go to india or not to settle ur wedding stuff here's a piece of info...parents-in law jus returned from a trip there and they paid just 50 cents per card when a similar card here costs about $2...since they were printing 800 cards, the savings alone could pay for their air tickets
happy.gif
and they got my wedding sari there as well as the door gifts...

AprylBride - welcome on board. I could send you the Oriental pkg. Do you have an email address? I haven't negotiated anything yet so I can't help you there. When you're asking about the set-up for indian weddings there, do you mean the food set-up or the actual wedding ceremony as in getting the priest to do the traditional ceremony there?

Chick - Haven't heard from you for awhile! ;)

Sphire - Thanks for the tip on Hyatt and Oriental, girl!

Infinite - Boohoo! Not planning to go to India for wedding shopping. Looks like I'm going to fork out heaps for cards. But then again, I reckon we;ll only be needing half the number.

Do you like the wedding saree they picked out for you?? What colour is it??? This is so exciting!!!

Say, do you know who should accompany the bride when she walks down the aisle? The maid of honour (groom's sister) and who else? Does it matter if groom's sister is married or single? Does it matter if the rest are married or single?

Btw, our wedding date has been brought forward to 2 June 2007. Banquet will be on the same day too. Sphire, can help me update pls? Thanks muchly!!

Quite frankly, the sooner the better because I get to be with my fiance sooner and with the way my mother has been carrying on (throwing tantrums and all when she doesn't get her way with the wedding arrangements), it is just getting to be a gruelling journey for both my fiance and I.

AprylBride..welcome..Every1 here's v helpful, so shoot away with questions...

Hi Rany, sorry been busy wif work and getting bit slack with wedding preps, so not much to update. Kool, we will both be June brides now :-). Hang in there yah, am sure all of us will have tense moments with family over wedding preps...

Just attended a wedding at the Tank road temple today, for the first time actually paid attention to the rites..unfortunately, Rany, still cant answer yr walking down the aisle question..hehe..Found the stage a bit small and looked overcrowded...The bride had to bend down during one point and couldnt even get up, can u imagine that? Either she;s weak or the flowers were too heavy...Hey gal, are we still on for the meetup? Think i'll give the fashion show a miss...

Infinite - share details on yr sari leh..also how was the quality of the cards n door gifts? Which part of india did they go? I'll be going in Dec..quite excited.....

chick and rani: was quite surprised myself that i liked the sari that they picked out for me cos i like simple and understated while mum in law differs...but she went for what i liked...its beige with maroon border...and she got them to add in swarovski crystals which only cost abt 50 bucks for 1000 of them...
they went madras and quality of cards were good also...we were fearful of printing there bcos of typo errors but the printers actually emailed us the proof copy and fiance and i could make any modifications and send back...then they printed a sample copy(with envelope and all) and PIL could look over it before the printing finally took place...chick if u want i can check the contact of the printers and share with u b4 u go there...
rany: the pple walking down the aisle with the bride are usually females of the girls side of the family (incl friends as well sometimes) but the person who will accompany u to the stage will be the grooms sister or even cousin and usually its an unmarried person but ive seen married ppl doing it as well...
and i think same feelings i have abt getting married..cant wait to get thru all these ceremonies and disagreements and jus start married life together where hopefully noone can bother us with what THEY think should be done...this is such a contrast to how i felt last yr b4 my rom where i was really looking forward to the day and loved every aspect of the ceremony and day as well...

Hey gals...thanx for the warm welcome.

Rany...oops so sorry for not givin enuf details. I'm not havin a traditional wedding. Just wondering wats their set-up like for decor as well as food. Do they have a bentley or rolls royce or any other car. Wat extras shld i be asking. Pls mail me ur package at [email protected] thank you so much.

Sphire read that u're wid Oriental too... have u signed wid them. Can you pls share ur package. So sorry gals just stressed wid the planning cos it's a bit of a rush (only abt 6mths left). Both me and my fiance travel a fair bit so havent sat down to plan the wedding proper. Need all the assistance i can get.

Also gals can you pls recommend some decorators. I mean i need someone to make my boring luncheon hall look like a ballroom. Wanna use lots of fabric instead of the expensive fresh flowers. Still sourcing for the venue..maybe Fort Canning or ACM depending on the number of ppl i hv. Currently it's 300pax but looks like might increase to 400pax by year end.

Hi Ladies
AprylBride - Welcome on board. For Oriental I din actually negoiate for extra perks as my coordinator was quite sticky abt it. Guess its the hotel standard. I was more like trading certain items in the package. My Coordinator is Yiwen. Went for Oriental as the ballroom was whtever I wanted. Their indian cuisine is not the best of all hotels but its the most famous among their spreads in their Melt cafe. In terms of perks, Oriental does not get a thumbs up but the amt of effort the hotel has put in for to-be-wed couples, u cn really expect an eventful banquet.

Infinite - Wow! U sure make india shopping worthwhile. But if its gonna be in india, then it'll be my in-laws. Glad that u are happy with the selections. The swarovski crystals sounds fabulous. Dont trust my MIL's selection. She always gets mi sarees and jewelleries thts not mi at all.

Rany - Both Hyatt and Oriental are the best picks. I was in your situation too. Cldnt decide btw both.
For the temple aisle, I knw 1 of the person to walk with bride is the bridesmaid (who's most of the time is the groom's sis figure regardless married or not). The others, not sure. The last wedding i attended was my SIL's best friend's. My SIL walked with her. So I guess it cn be anyone u r comfortable with.
Will update the table, gal.

Chick - Its been a long time gal. Hope u r doing good. Did u contact stage4?

UPDATES..
Went on Sat to sign my contract with Oriental. Really regret bringing his dad. He had an issue with the dog favour. The dog in the first place looked so much like a bear. Every small details his family always has an issue. Sometimes I jus think if i'm marrying the right family.

Hi AprylBride
Wow... only 6mths? U r hving a luncheon and banquet in one day?

Cnt recomend any decorators but I knw u cld walk dwn Arab street and check out the malay bridal boutique. U cld try the indian ones at little india. U cld even contact wedding planners.. to many variations. I gues the malayas

My final package is not wht Oriental has offered originally. I manufactured my package and menu for extra cost. Sorry gal I don hv the soft copy any more as it wasnt the final one. After signing on Sat, I deleted all my soft copies as not to get confuse. I'll try typing out my menu again and email to u.

Dont worry gal. The ladies here are very kind to help out with any details. They hv been very helpful to mi. Without some advices here and there, dont think I'll hv done tis far in preparation.

Chick - Thanks for edmund leong's website add..

AprylBride - Welcome! I'm considering Oriental too and am 99% sure its gonna be it for my dinner reception. I'm looking at the weekday Indian buffet package. When are you looking to have your banquet? Would you be looking to have a sit-down dinner like Sphire or a buffet?

Infinite - Yup. Wedding cards are way cheaper in India and you get nicer ones too. As i travel to India for work alot i intend to settle the 'cards issue'on one of my trips to Delhi. But as i wouldn't have time to do rest of the shopping, will be getting my wedding clothes etc locally.Thats why i will be going to the Stylemart show on Saturday. Glad you liked your wedding sari.
