I have registered my marriage with my hubby a few months ago, and we r still staying at our own house while waiting for our HDB flat.

Hubby has suggested to hold our AD in late 2012, however in laws has suggested to hold till we get our new flat, citing that it is 'troublesome' that they need to renovate hubby's room.

from me n hubby together till now (2 years), in laws has nv invite me to their hse for meals

i remembered one occasion when its mother in law birthday, i went n gave her an ang bao but she nv invite me for the family's dinner (they went to celebrate)

when i goes to their house, they would be similely and polite. but goes to their own room n watch tv after that.
I would be alone watching tv in the living room.

I had tried all ways n means to bulit rapport with them but it seems like a one way traffic.

i feel so angry n frasturated, feel like ignoring them and avoid gg to their hse, bt do not want to end up being e evil DIL.

What is e problem with them? n what i shld i do..

I feel mad and unhappy that my MIL makes sarcastic remarks at times. I think she means no malice but it really makes mad. Well I could not retaliate becos hubby will b in a spot.

Today she told my hubby who is traveling on biz trip not to buy awful biscuits like the type I bought on my last biz trip. I still hv a pack of those biscuits unfinished on the table. she then asked me if I couldn't bear to eat those biscuits or is it I could not finish it ( implying it wasnt nice)!!!

Any tips on how to respond to such scathing remarks to make sure she got the message she is very rude without rocking the relationship??

I do not want her to make it a habit of talking this way to me when I have done nothing wrong in general.

This will happen only when ur in laws feel that you are snatching their son away from them.

Win-win solution : Try to make them feel that not only they didn't lose a son, they gain a daughter as well.

thanks for the reminder..

overall I strive to acheive that but things do get out of hand at times.

what would u say if you want to respond tactfully and put her in place at same time in this situation? Very pek chek cos not the first time .

erm, which part abt the unfinished biscuits is not true?

and the reason why u're offended is becos of the way u choose to take it.

look at the mindset....

"really makes (me) mad."
"could not retaliate"
"such scathing remarks"
"she is very rude".

Why ask advise here Katherine? If u share yr mindset at this forum/your way of speech ppl won tolerate u. Next time, try using 'farking'. Maybe u get better respons.

For example,
"really makes (me)farking mad."
"could not farking retaliate"
"such farking scathing remarks"
"she is very farking rude".
