Hi,

Im holding my wedding banquet in 2009. But I really have no idea how to get things going. Usually a wedding banquet, need to spend how much? What is the deposit that we need to give in market now? 10% or 20%?
Another issue is if my parents request for 10 tables but the groom side only prepare to give 5 tables, then the other 5 tables that belong to my parent's side, they get to keep the 10 tables angpow collected from relatives & friends?
So sorry, I do not have much cash on hand, so I need to know in advance how much to prepare.

Hi Piglet08, thanks for your reply.
How much does it cost to engage a wedding planner? Me & my htb doesnt earn alot.

Im actully more concern on how to calculate the monetary thingy for the wedding banquet. Like the angpows collected from my parents' side relative...

Yeah...I think so too... My parents are on the more conservative side & they expecct the guy side to pay for everything as its a guy's duties. Haiz... Headache...

Hi Regina..

I was as blur as you before last year...hehe...it took me some time to understand the whole thing...

Well this is how it usually goes...for example your total number of tables is 25, groom's side needs 15 tables, bride's side needs 10 tables...

If groom's side gives 5 tables, the rest of the 5 tables is usually paid by bride's parents...angpows collected from the bride's 10 tables will all belong to the bride's parents...this means the groom bears the cost of that 5 tables but he is not able to collect any angpow from those tables..

The groom or groom's parents will host the 15 tables themselves. All angpows from these 15 tables will belong to them.

About banquet deposit, every hotel has their own rules...for my banquet we are required to pay a deposit of $3k upon signing of contract...the rest we paid after the banquet ended...some hotels do require a staggered deposit payment before the banquet itself so its best to call up the hotels you are interested in and check with them direct. Hope this helps!

Hi cheekybee,

How about, if the bride's table have excess seats, and the groom side need to utilise those seats, who should keep the ang pows?

well... I'm now into the last phase of my wedding prep... hahaha.. AD coming in june... so it really depends.. like for my case... me & hubby is paying for every single thing from our joint saving.. so parents only spend on wat they wanna buy for us..like 4-dian jin & watever ang paos they wanna give us...

think mayb u & ur hubby wanna have an idea of how big a wedding celebration u want 1st.. like roughly how many tables... & best now is to get the banquet rates for the different hotels or restaurant to gauge ur banquet expenses for a headstart.
