I agree with the decision taken by MP Yaw Shin Leong to resign as treasurer of the Workers Party and the exemplary approach taken by the leadership of the Workers Party in handling this difficult issue.

I also agree with the stance taken by Mr Yaw and the leaders of the Workers Party in choosing to remain silent over the rumors of extra marital affairs.

We have to respect the right as a citizen, including a public figure, to remain silent on private matters that do not affect the performance of their public duty.

There is no need to make further disclosures, as there is a need to protect the privacy of Mr Yaw’s family.

The voters of Hougang will judge Mr Yaw at the next general election.

I am heartened to read the words of support from many residents to Mr Yaw, who has worked in the grassroots of Hougang for many years, even before becoming their elected Member of Parliament.

The people of Singapore will have to accept that they will not be able to find angels to be their leaders, either in the current party in power or in an alternative political party.

I like to express appreciation to Mr Yaw’s wife for her strong support of her husband in this difficult situation and to wish the best for their family.

If he did as rumored, he possesses a thoughtless and brazen tendency towards risk taking. Come on, from the same church and fellow married party member? He jeopardized his party and the cause of opposition in sg. If he weren't the elected mp I'm quite sure he'd be sacked by wp. I hope so.

And who you are - as in your character, your personality and your value system - impacts your job performance. That's why job candidates are routinely asked to do a personality test. More so public figures and celebrities because, rightly or wrongly, people expect more from them. If folks don't like you, they won't watch your shows and they wont vote for you. And part of being a politician is to win votes. To argue that his private dalliance should remain so is therefore brain dead.

One of the rare time that I agreed with Scope.

He shouldn't run for the presidential election - just expose all his bad points.. Not surprising he lose his deposition.

And making a statement like this.. for a public figure to remain silent .. I don't think it is acceptable at all. Yes, don't have to wash dirty linen in public with details.. but a simple statement will do..

Look at the Dr Chua from across the border a couple of years back... Yes, admitted to being the man in the video and then move on.. won some votes for being decisive and forthright. Running away and keeping silent is not what a politician should do.
