Grand Mercure Roxy Hotel (formerly known as Century Roxy Park Hotel)

Sleepygal

Number of tables quite important, if invite too many and cant accomodate, your guests will get upset with the arrangement.... I agree must write everything black and white so that there are no disputes at the last minute....

Changing my AD again...parents very hard to please at times... i hope Jason wont be too pissed off with me....

Sleepygal,

I have already signed the contract last year.

Only problem was that I have to keep chasing her my contract. Maybe they are too busy, I guess ba.

As for the details of the package, dun really have problems. Pretty straight forward.

Hey sleepy gal, ya. it is abit confusing. I was at the BOW early of the year. The co-ordinator mention that the new ballroom can actuali hold 35 tables and above. But this morning, i called to the hotel. The person actuali told me the biggest ballroom can only hold 34tables.....

Hi Fishy_lim, ya its precisely why I am so fed up with their words. If they are not sure, then just dun tell people what exactly the place can hold, can just say that we are unsure yet and will only be able to release the details at a later date after they have done the mock-up. Don't just keep on changing and changing. Whatever it is, hopefully they won't change the figures to a smaller number anymore. I had requested the co-ordinator to state the final confirmed tables (that the ballroom allowed) in black-and-white in my contract.

Hi gals, anyone attending the wedding show on 01-Mar at the hotel? I will be attending. Probably we can arrange to meet there? Hehe...

Hi Sleepgal, I was at the show yesterday. we are considering to sign up with them so today, I will be going down too. The ideal tables that i will need is 40 tables. Have you discuss with them? 40tables shouldnt be a problem if you dun mind. coz heard they are able to open up some of those servicing area but the floor are not carpeted.

Hi elstrial, heard that the food is quite nice.

hi gals, I attended the wedding show ystday. I find dat the food served during the show was quite tasty.

sleepygal, my coordinator has left the hotel alrdy. now we r waiting for news to know who will b our newly appointed coordinator.

Hi fishy_lim, I was at the show yesterday too. Went thru with the co-ordinator for the final details my contract. Was quite satisfied with it. Finally confirmed that the max number of tables are only 35 tables. But anyway, should not have so many tables. Heard that the place where the bridal shop was during the wedding show, was where we are going to have the reception.

Hi miumiu, sad to hear that ur co-ordinator had left the hotel. Heard from my co-ordinator that there are currently only 2 co-ordinators left to follow-up on all the wedding contracts. Hopefully the next person will stay on long, at least till our weddings are over. I also find that the food served during the show was quite nice.

Did you gals spot some nice gowns during the show? Won anything from the lucky draw?

Thanks for the info, fishy_lim.

Hi gals, attended the Garden of Eden showcase yesterday. The food served during the refreshment was pretty good. Didn't expect to have peking duck, baked cod fish, prawns etc. Nice
happy.gif

By the way, the food served yesterday, was it from Feast@East Restaurant?

Finally a load off my mind after signing up last night during the showcase. Phew! Although AD will only be in Sep 2009. Haha!

Just to share with you gals, heard from the manager that for East Coast Ballroom, 30 tables will be comfortable. If all the way to 35 tables, it will be cramped.

Won a S$1888 wedding package from The Fe1ine Brida1. Anyone has any feedback on this bridal shop? If reviews are good, then perhaps can go down & take a look. If not, would rather spend extra money on another bridal shop.

Hi miumiu, I did spot a few nice gowns there so can compare with my BS. Din win in the lucky draw but was given a voucher to dine at the Chinese Restaurant at 2nd flr.

Hi elstrial, dun think the food's from feast@east, think should be from the hotel's kitchen.

Congratulations, Sleepygal!
So far, everything settled? or almost settled?
BTW ur dinner will held by the poolside or ballroom?

Thanks Elstrial. Nope, still a lot of things left pending. Haiz. Still waiting for my contract to be finalised and send to us. My dinner will be at the East coast Ballroom where we had the wedding show on last weekends.

Mine will be at East Coast Ballroom too. Still got a long long way to go before the AD.. 1.8yrs to be precise.. Super kaisu.. But no choice, it's during the 8th lunar month. That month tends to be popular for wedding.

May I know which bridal shop did you get your package from? I'm still searching for one.

hi sleepygal & elstrial, wad is the min no of tables for the East Coast ballroom? My friend attended the poolside showcase & she was told that the max it can hold is 27tables.

wah sleepygal, so nice to haf gotten a voucher for the chinese restaurant. think the food there shld b good.

Hi Elstrial, my BS is Sophia Wedding Collections.

Hi Miumiu, min tables for East Coast Ballroom is 25 tables. The poolside cannot be so much la. The last time I heard was that it can only hold up to 20tables to the max. The voucher was given to us for thanking us for choosing GMR as the venue for our dinner since we were supposed to sign the contract on that day. Haha.

I heard the max is 25 tables for poolside, comfortably would be 23 tables. You can ask their sale manager (I think her name is Katherine) on the number of tables for poolside. She should be able to give you a precise number.

Went to the chinese restaurant after the wedding showcase with the coordinator, to take a look at its a-la-carte menu as I might change some of the dishes. Pretty impressive, I should say. Will find 1 day to test the food at this chinese restaurant. Hope the food will blow my mind off. Haha!

welcome elstrial!

Another Roxy BTB.....

Sleepygal,

Yah Jason left and Kat is my new co-ordinator, I went for the wedding fair @ sunday and luckily she still rember me who was haggling there at the BOWS that day.....

nice lady indeed..... she has given us some food vouchers as well....

Hi Ladies,

This thread is so quiet!
Me too jus became a Roxy BTB...
Attended the wedding showcase but din sign on the spot. Checked out a few hotels before finally decided on Roxy cos me and HTB really love the romantic poolside theme, plus we often hang out at parkway... haha! So we got this homely feeling...

XinYing is my coordinator and I find her very efficient and sweet! She gave us food n spa vouchers! =)

By the way, the 2009 pricing is out and definitely going north! Luckily mine in NOV 08... Hotel's chinese restaurant is quite new, received good reviews on newspaper! Previously was a Thai restaurant doing the banquet i think.

Any other ladies have or had their dinner by the pool? I'm concern that the guests seated in the upper deck will feel left out cos the stage is downstairs. They may not be able to see the stage when we march in or toasting... Any brides encounter this problem? Thinking of engaging live projection but could be costly...

I attend a poolside dinner and i happen to be sitting on the upper deck.

There was no live projection and we did feel kinda left out as we cant see the stage.

hi berie!

Thanks for ur feedback! Looks like i better get live projection! Sorry to bombard u with qns! If u dun mind, can provide more feedback?

1. How many tables were there at the upper deck? Squeezy?
2. How's the pace of the dishes served?
3. Was it warm? Were there air coolers?
4. Though upper deck felt left out, the poolside ambience good?

Thanks! =)

hi hanxi, welcome! I've seen the poolside set up before. initially me I wanted to haf my wedding at the poolside, however dropped the idea coz the venue is being separated into 2 decks. My fiance's worries was dat our guests may feel left out & sit down wedding by the pool may not b so comfort coz the space quite limited...

I noticed there were fans & 1 projector at the upper deck. Somemore I suppose dinnertime (at nite) will b much cooling for ur guests. If u really like to haf a poolside wedding, y not address ur concerns to ur coordinator & let her help u. She mayb in a better position to gif gd suggestions.

Hi Hanxi

You are welcome.

Here are my replies. Hope they will be useful.

1. There were about 12-15 tables. Quite spacious.
2. The pace of the serving was slow. My table got the food much faster than the rest. Seems like the waiters/waitresses are not so well-trained. Kinda of messed up.
3. Not warm. Nice weather that night. There were fans ard.
4. No ambience to mention on the upper deck. I believe the lower deck has a much better ambience as the pool is at lower deck.

All these are just my personal opinion. Maybe you should pop by and take a look at the venue.

Went down to view the poolside setup yesterday (there's a poolside wedding at Roxy last night).

There's actually projector (for LIVE projection during dinner) at the upper deck. As for the stand-alone cooler fan (other than those fans attached around the marquee), there is a rental fee to it.

Just to share my opinion with you that you might want to consider how many relatives both of you are going to invite. From what I understand, poolside lower deck can accomodate 10 tables the most (including 2 VIP tables). Having either some of his or your relatives at the upper deck might seems weird. Being separated from the relatives tables at the lower deck.

Then 13 tables at the upper deck is just nice for guests to move around. Having 15 tables will be abit packed.

Agreed with berie on the ambience at the upper deck, nothing comparable to lower deck.

Thanks MIU MIU, BERIE and ELSTRIAL!
Me and my HTB went down last Fri too. Was happy to find they have live projection! No need to spend extra le.
We did walk to the upper deck to peep and felt that upper deck actually has a better ambience may be becos the tables are more packed thus more cosy? HaHa!
Probably have to plan seat arrangements such that older relatives sit by the pool so that Parents and PILs can go mingle easily.
Actually it is best if dinner is stand up buffet style. The ambience is best when u stand up and walk around the pool...

My hubby and I attempted to compile the guests list for the dinner but failed. Currently, we are basing on our parents rough estimated number of tables they are taking so is quite difficult to calculate. So ended up getting our parents to be involved for their compilation of their guests list. After they confirm their list, then we can start ours. Then can eliminate who not to invite. Haiz....

Hi sleepygal, just to share with you how I complied the guestlist. Hope it help you in a way or another.

I listed down the names of those who will definitely be invited to the dinner (such as relatives, close friends & colleagues) - These are on my side only. HTB will do the same by listing down the guestlist from his side.

After I have settled my family & friends list, then I allocated a certain number of tables to my parent's for their friends.
Thankful that our parents are only inviting close friends of theirs and not those hi-bye friends.

When parents are done with their guestlist, then we will do the final round of checking of the guestlist.

Hi ladies,

I'm a new member to Spore Brides Forum and I'll also be having my wedding dinner at Grand Mercure in Oct 08... Looking forward.
Have jus got the contract from the hotel, some changes posted for their package recently.. so i'm confused... they seems rather sticky on their corkage waiver. Maybe bcos i only have 15 tables ba... Glad to see Grand Mercure Roxy BTBs here!!!

Cheers!

My hubby just came back from a wedding dinner in GMR and he commented that pool side is quite hot even in the evening. Probably due to the hot weather. Food wise not so bad but service was quite bad. He withnessed the manager scolding one waitor very loudly. ;(

Hi ladies, when is the expiry date of the voucher that we had gotten from the Wedding show? My hubby is holding on to the voucher he had misplaced it. Now searching for it. Do let me know. Thanks.

the voucher expires by end of this mth. nope, i wonder whthr they will take the initative to call us. think better contact them instead to check for the next course of action.

Hi all, I'm new to tis forum.
Jus wonder is the service reali tat bad at Grand Mercure Roxy? The staff kana scold in front of the guests n the cordinator kinda irresponsible type...??
I've seen the mag pics, the poolside reali loks gd, tat's y thot of holding my wedding there. Any idea do they supply the cooler fan at the poolside? Thks in advance...

Hi Winterling, my co-ordinator have not even called me to discuss abt the invitation cards and I have no idea when is my food tasting date. Is your co-ordinator Katherine too?

My sis went to check out the place last weekend too. She was not really satisified with the service by one of the co-ordinator. My sis said probably becos it was her knocked off time on sat afternoon, thats y the co-ordinator din even bothered to explain much details to them. Somehow she just told them that "This is our function room, but there is no function today as you can see for yourselves". Anyway, they are quite unsatisfied with their service level so they din consider GMR as a possible venue for their wedding dinner.

Hi Ladies...

I guessed it is not jus Grand Mercure Roxy hotel... alot of other hotels will also simply 'switch off' after collecting your deposit. Tat happened to my friends who have had their wedding banquet at other hotels..

My dinner will be held on 3rd Oct, and I also had to call my co-ordinator instead. She shared that food-tasting will normally be arranged 2 mths prior actual date, and confirmation of other details (like theme, menu, no of tables.. etc) would be done 3-4 weeks prior actual date. But she had passed me the contacts for the invitation cards. So i think I'm supposed to go down to the shop and select the wedding cards.. but haven't done it yet. .

Hi Sleepygal,

Ya, my co-ordinator is Katherine. How abt yours?

I dun think she will discuss abt the invitation cards cos everything shld based on the signed contract ba.

So I just based on the agreed % and went to print my cards already
happy.gif

Getting my cards next next week.

GMR card supplier is T-dragon.

Hi Winterling, ya, my co-ordinator is Katherine too. Even though we are basing on the % agreed, she should still let us know what are the designs available or even the supplier contact. I have not even sourced for the supplier to print the inserts.

Hi Sleepgal....

Oooo... you mean u dun have any details? Your wedding date same as mi right? 23.11.08 right? Oh dear, call her and get from her. She gave me during the Wedding show.

Hi Winterling yup, i do not have any details. Yes, our wedding date is the same day on 23.11.08. Have to get my hubby to call her and get from her. U mean she gave u the contact of the invitation card printer during the Wedding show?

Hi winterling, just received her email yesterday, finally released the details of the printer. So we are supposed to go direct to the printer ourselves right? I should be going next week, cos this week fully packed with the photo selection and renovations of my new house. Does T-dragon privides envelopes and the string to tie the inserts? What is the cost of printing the inserts like at T-Dragon? Thanks.

Shanni,
They have cooler fans, have to pay extra for tentage and the fans. U can PM me if u wanna know more.
