The taxman is seeking to appoint a liquidator for food supplier Kr*ston Food & Beverages over $1.08 million in alleged unpaid goods and services tax (GST) and income tax.
The interim move was made in the High Court on Thursday and the hearing was adjourned until later this month. Lawyers said a move to appoint a liquidator for a company is generally meant to ensure its assets are preserved, pending an application to wind up the firm.
Kri*ton, a well-known restaurant operator and catering supplier, said last night that it will be defending the case. 'While this is happening, business will continue as usual,' said its spokesman.
Kri*ton is said to have owed some $769,200 in GST and $17,960 in income tax as of October last year, according to court documents filed by the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (Iras).
