Favouritism / Bias

This is a very interesting and difficult topics. If we have more than 1 child, we have to deal with them differently because each of them is different. And it is interesting to hear from your children's perspective as well.

I know most modern parents will swear that they are fair and will not show favoritism. This is subjective and your children may not see it this way.

All our children are different and we deal with them differently - at times it can be perceived as favouritism. Like one child we restrict internet usage and the other we are more lax, just to give an example. Or we give one child more pocket money over the other.

It is good to talk to your each of your child about their perception and the best is to explain and have them accepting it. They are all loved equally but in different way.

I find it also useful to have one-to-one time with each of the child. It is more time consuming for the parents but it is very instructive to see what they can tell you when you are with them one-to-one. Sometimes I also ask them to grade their father that is me.. and see how they assess you and how you can do better.
