Engaging a professional wedding planner

Hi everyone,

I'm getting married in October this year but I'm planning everything from overseas and I'm stressing out!! Should I engage a wedding planner to make things easier? I'm worried wedding planners are too expensive and out of my budget. Any brides with experience on this? Thanks in advance!

congrats in tying the knot! it all depends on the schedule of your wedding day and how you plan it out to be. Wedding planners can give a general guide and help plan the details to suit both your requirements and taste. some charge a fix rate while some mark up the cost of each item you budget for the wedding. best of luck!

Thanks fengfeng for your reply. I see..do couples tend to hire events planners or plan the wedding themselves? I have heard of horror stories where the events planner influences the couple to spend alot more than they had budgeted. :S

I guess, at the end of the day, you can always delegate best man and maid of honor some important tasks too, like keeping check of the time, know what comes next. like i mentioned, it depends on the day's schedule. if yours is just a simple solemnisation and a lunch buffet at a restaurant or hotel, the planner may just go into details of the decor and bring you their list of florists and quotations of (venues / photographer / videographer / food caterers / JP) and ask if u need this and that, for the planning.

Things such as the guest list, people involved for tea ceremony, any customs or rituals that you might have, these are the types that only you or your family would know best. (which you may not need to involve the planner)

most importantly, respect and communicate with your planner on the services that they do provide and any hidden costs if you do choose to have one. because they will ensure you will have a peace of mind for your wedding day.
