Embosser

Hi Beary,
I too was looking around for this sometime back, and found one at :

picture.picture connexion
420 North Bridge Road #01-02 North Bridge Centre S188727
tel no. is 63376265

But in the end, we did not buy it. That was sometime last year, I think the shop should still be there. Its the row of shops opposite the new National Library and near Bras Basah complex. Are you making cards?
happy.gif

Hi ty,

Thanks for the info. Will try to give them a call.. yup i'm making cards =) trying to save some $$ by DIY-ing the printing of the invites...

Hi truffles and pearls,
I think they have a few sizes, so the prices range from $30 onwards if I remember correctly. Maybe you can call them to check with them?
happy.gif

Hi Beary,
I just realised you are at the FS thread too!
biggrin.gif
Are you making the invites for your AD? They also can make the powder type of embossing stamp there, its pretty too. I am making mine for my solemnization in Mar, but still have long way to go...

Hi ty,

yup yup, ur rite! i'm at fs fhread too =) i'm making invites for my AD, that's y looking for an embosser. If you don't mind me asking, how does the powder type of embossing stamp work? i'm not familiar with all these stuffs..hee.. care to share with me how ur invites will look like? =)

Hi Beary,
I remember the lady trying to explain to me abt the powder embossing, involves a special stamp, two types of powder, and some heat I think. The powder supposedly is slightly raised and can be done with different colors, and this can be used to do a photo too. I didn't know it existed until the lady showed it to us. Try this weddie for a short intro on it: www.memory-maker.co.uk/acatalog/project2.htm

As for my invites, we have thought of how to do it, but this must have been version 3 or something. We kept changing our minds! But we are not using any embossing though. Right now the first draft not out yet, will let you know again when it is ready! Will prob rush the invites in late Jan and early Feb since busy now. I hope not too late though; when is your AD?
happy.gif

Hi ty,

my AD is in July, so still have time to play around with the design of the invites..hee. like u, we also keep changing our minds..now i have so many versions! When's ur AD?

Hi Beary,
Ya I agree you still have enough time to play with the designs; maybe nearer the date then you will finalise it. We just decided to try to stick to this idea now, otherwise will never get it sent out in time! My AD is loooonng time more, like in 2008/9. Also did think of holding it at FS since we are having our ROM solemnization there this March. Let me know how is it like in FS ya? And meanwhile I will keep you updated on the card making!
wink.gif

How many cards are you looking at? For us about 20 or so since its just the solemnization.

Hi ty,

I think it'll be great if u hold ur AD in FS as well... from the FS thread, seems like the hotel is really reliable and the food's great. Will let u know how my AD goes =) Where will ur solemnization be held? is it at the windows east/west? I saw the rooms before, they're gorgeous!!

I'm making about 100 cards, my AD will be at the Crescent ballroom, so it's a max of 15 tables.

Hi Beary,
I agree with you, the comments given on FS are great! If we do it there may use Cresent ballroom too, since we also have about max 15 tables. I'm sure it will be a nice and cozy event there for yours!
wink.gif
So now we are deciding between all the different venues, from resturants to outdoors, and also a lunch instead. How are your prep coming along?

The solemnization will be at Windows East, and yup, the view from the top is nice! I actually liked Windows West more, but there are too much construction going on there. By the way, my co-ordinator is Lewis, whos yours?

Hi ty,

my coordinator is georgette. Nice lady..altho I think she forgot about me already. I signed up sometime in March '05 and when I went to FS last saturday, i bumped into her but she didn't recognize me! hee... My prep is coming along very slowly. now only doing the card and planning for honeymoon. guess there's not much prep to be done until the last few months b4 the AD.

Which venues are you considering so far? I went through the same thing as you, trying to find a nice place that can cater for just 15 tables. Not easy since most of the places, esp hotels, have minimum of 25-30 tables..

Morning Beary!
It seems like not many have Lewis as coordinator, its usually Georgette or Eugene or Mr Ho. From what I read in the thread she is a good coordinator. If only I went to the thread to read a little before I signed up! Oops, she didn't recognise you? But I bet if I met Lewis he may not recognise me either! Just realised that its counting down to almost two month to the ROM, and our invites are not ready yet! *hitting panic mode soon* How the embosser coming along for you? ? I bought one of the craft punchers type that can do embossing for the borders of cards, its quite fun.

Its good to take your time to prepare for the wedding, enjoy the process too. Where are you looking at for honeymoon? Are you intending to do the place cards too like Sgwestie did? I thought that was a nice gesture, to personalise everything especially if you have time. Will you be inviting many friends, or is it mostly family?

Yes, it is sooo true that most places have min 25 tables, such a headache! I have considered venues like Chef Chans and Peony Jade, as well as hotels like Carlton, Regent and Grand Hyatt. Any comments on them? My dream wedding will be the outdoor garden type, but alas, its quite difficult with our weather, and requires much more planning. In addition, FMIL may want to invite more friends too, so that may come up to 18+2 type of numbers. So odd! Now its even worse since its neither within 15 or more than 20. And I get the naggingly feeling that my mom may increase the number.

Hi ty,

Lewis is a rather new coordinator is it? dun worry, i'm sure all of FS coordinators are equally capable =) I haven't gotten the time to go to the shop to look at the embosser. been really busy with work and honeymoon planning. I'm planning to go to either Alaska or NZ for honeymoon...we want cooler weather and since the it'll b in august, there's really not much choices...the rest of the world is having summer.

I'm still considering whether or not to use placecards...A bit worried that the guests wont like to be told where to sit exactly. plus it's more work for me =P i'll be inviting mostly friends coz all my families are overseas.

I've only visited Regent and Hyatt, as well as Fullerton and Ritz. Regent is quite nice, although for smaller weddings like ours they only give the smaller room on othe 2nd floor if I'm not wrong. I thought the room looked pretty nice but I don't really like the tiny cocktail area. If you're looking for a garden wedding, Hyatt is a good choice. I wanted that too but worried that it'll rain unexpectedly. Ritz Carlton suggested the Chihuly room which was quite newly decorated but can only take 10 tables max. Maybe u can consider Fullerton, the Straits room is pretty charming and suitable for smaller weddings.

Actually the reason why I choose FS is bcoz it's the only hotel that has a ballroom with a nice cocktail area for 15 tables. Other hotels just have function rooms. If you're considering lunch, maybe u can use the bigger FS ballroom, instead of crescent. I think for lunch they only have min 20 tables.

Hi Beary,
Both locations for honeymoon sound great! I went to NZ last year, and planned the entire 2 wk trip on our own. If you like the freedom of planning and choosing which sites to go to, its a good place to go to. Lots of beautiful scenaries and activities too. But the lure of Alaska is great too, I bet the whale watching and walk on glaciers would be exciting! Would it be a cruise?

If you are having mainly friends, I think it is all right to have placecards. After all they may still change seats if they really want to. Its just that they have a personalise token to welcome them. Does it mean you are holding another wedding overseas too?

Thank you for sharing on your experience with the various hotels, Hyatt does sound tempting. But all well, I think the more crucial thing for me to settle would be the actual number of tables before we can decide the venue. I totally agree with you that FS is great because there is a cozy cocktail area that is not shared with the guests from another ballroom. The lunch banquet / buffet idea does sound really tempting now!

Hi ty,

yup, if i choose alaska then it'll be a cruise. NZ sounds really tempting too, heard a lot of good reviews. But some people said that it's not really worth it to go in July coz the daytime is short so can't really see as much as if it's during summer.. alaska cruise is really expensive tho...so i'm still considering...

I'll be holding another wedding overseas a week b4 the sg wedding. actually what u said is true, ppl still will change seats if they really want to. so maybe i'll consider doing the placecard =) more headache to come up wif a design tho... hee...

ur rite, u need 2decide on the actual no of tables 1st before u can decide which hotel u want. If ur considering lunch, i think ritz carlton can let u use the big area outside the ballroom, with french doors that can open to the outdoor..pretty nice.. or how abt a beach wedding at sentosa? tat was one of my 1st choice.. very romantic =P

Hi Beary,
I see, the cruise to Alaska is definitely tempting since not many people would have gone, and its that once-in-life-time experience. How much would the cruise come up to be? I found that for our NZ trip, towards the end all the beautiful lakes and mountains sort of looked the same... Its true that if the day is shorter, you cannot do much, and to drive from one place to another can already take a while.

Same here, I would also be holding another wedding overseas, so all together it can get quite costly. As for the placecards, I think if you use the embosser to stamp, it can reduce some time and jazz up the card. But I realised that choosing the right paper is important so that the embossing can be seen. Or a trusty color printer can save you some time too.

You were considering beach wedding at sentosa too? That is so cool! I would love it, but ours would be mainly relatives, so the older people may not like such places. *sob sob* Even for outdoor weddings I am sure they will have lots of complains, like it is too warm etc. But like FH says, its our wedding and therefore our choices, so will try to work on parents to change their mindset. I am all for a outdoor type of wedding, with shorter dresses and a theme dinner like retro! Have you settled your bridal studio? Which studio are you with?

Hi ty,

I think the cruise would cost somewhere between 10 to 15k..tat's the estimate that some of the girls in the travel&honeymoon forum has advised me..So exp =( not sure I wanna spend that much...

Where's ur other wedding gonna be held? mine will be in Jakarta coz both me and my FH are indonesians. Amazingly the wedding there is more exp than here...I thought it'd be the other way ard.. sigh... weddings r really exp affair..

Ur FH is so right! it is ur wedding and the most important thing is ur happy coz it's once in a lifetime thing. If ur overseas wedding will be mainly for friends maybe u can consider having the outdoor theme there instead of here...just to be on the safe side coz it is true that the older people may not like outdoor event..

As for BS, I'm with Blush2 at Delfi. Just love their designs..How abt u? Oya, I saw this shop at Delfi that does embossing of monograms. They're using the powder type. They quote me $260 to produce 150 embossed circles (roughly abt 3 cm in diameter). alternatively, I can DIY and they sell the embossing kit for $180, inclusive of the design of the monogram, the embosser stamp, ink and powder. Do u think the price is reasonable? I haven't had the time to visit the shop in Bras Basah.

Hi Beary,
Wow, you are right, the cruise is costly! Have to discuss carefully before you decide... I also agree that sometimes its a bit heartache to spend so much on it, but if the both of you really like it, its worth it! I had also thought of the cruise to Alaska long time back, but now, after finding out the price I think there is no way I can go there =(

My other wedding is going to be held in Malaysia, haha, so should be across the causeway. Still things in Penang may not be that cheap considering that there are tons of relatives there (that I hardly ever see in my life!). So would your wedding be Indonesia be a small one too? I agree that I would have thought that Singapore would be more costly; is it because you are having a bigger one there?

I have seen the designs from Blush2 on magazines, and they look pretty! I am sure you will be one beautiful bride! I have not signed up for any packages yet since my AD is so far away, and I cannot decide the theme and venue. In addition, if I have to bring the gowns to M'sia for the wedding I would have to buy them?

As for the embossing kit, I am sorry I didnt ask about the prices from that store for the powder ones. I think if you have time doing it yourself can be fun, and save some money too. But you must make sure they teach you how to do it first! It can be a couple activity too. But just to be save perhaps you should check with the store at Bras Basah since I would generally think some of the shops in town may charge a higher price.

Hi ty,

Ur other wedding is in Penang? that's cool...have always wanted to go there, heard the food is very nice! =) it's gonna be a huge wedding I guess? since all ur relatives are there..My jakarta wedding will be for about 1000 ppl, most of them i never even see b4 too! actually the cost of the food there is cheap compared to here, but the decor/make up/bridal car/musicians/etc are way more exp =( so ridiculous...

Actually, when I was searching for BS, some of them will let u bring the gown overseas for abt a week if you place a deposit. so u dont need to buy the gown. for my case, i decided to buy it coz of sentimental reason...hee.. or maybe u can buy the gown from allure charix. their gowns are nice and very affordable..

i made my 'emboss' chop at Wahab @ Bras Basah. not cheap..cost me $70+ (i think it was more ex 'cos my imprint is quite big)...but very durable la...still in good working condition all these years (since 2001). worthwhile investment if you see yourself sending thank-you notes or other cards/correspondences years after your wedding

Hi KPO,

thanx 4 the info! is ur embosser the powder type or the 'press' type? did u do the design urself or can the shop do 4u?

hi beary,

it's the 'press' type. i did the design myself - just a v simple one with our initials. but you might want to call up some chop-making shops directly 'cos Wahab @ Bras Basah doesn't specialise in making chops..they only act as intermediary to take orders, so whatever i've paid is probably at a slight premium.

Hi KPO,

okie, will try to hunt for it in Bras Basah...i suppose there are some chop-making shops there? Thanks so much! =)

Hi Beary,
I'm so sorry for the late reply, I had to had up my thesis and it was a tight dateline. I am so relieved its over! But now I am down with the flu =( But haha gives me excuse to stay home and do the card! The flu medicine is kicking in now, think i am getting real drowsy. Will update you soon again on how the invites are coming along... How is the embosser coming along?

Hi ty,

ru still studying? me too..gonna start writting my thesis soon..at least urs is over. mine haven't even started. hee.. i haven't had the time 2find the embosser. been real busy these past weeks..think will start hunting 4it after the new year..

Hi Beary,
Thats another common thing we have in common!
wink.gif
I'm still doing my full-time graduate studies. Thats why quite poor, wedding must wait a while more; getting a flat is probably more important than the banquet to me. Are you currently now doing undergrad or graduate studies? How many pages would your thesis have to be?

Today I dropped by Bras Basah and went into the shop to ask about the embosser again. I found out that the embosser, circular, stamp type, of 25mm with words and images would cost $90. A 30mm size would cost $95 dollars. But this price is based on having quite a number of words around the circumference and a logo in the middle. If it is just two initals like AB in the center, its slightly cheaper.

In the end, we are still considering getting one since it does look quite pretty and its easier than the powder ones. But seems like by far the one KPO quoted is prob the cheapest.. I shall check out that place and others in bras basah too and update you...

Hi ty,

Such a coincidence =) I'm also doing full-time grad studies. and also quite poor..hee..Which uni ru in? I'm in NUS. Not sure how many pages would my thesis have to b, haven't even finished the research part..I guess shld be ard 100 odd pages..hopefully not more than that.

Thanx so much 4the embosser update! =) I was thinking 2go down 2bras basah after CNY...still got so many wedding things 2settle..sigh..how's ur solemnization prep coming along? it's almost Feb already, u must be getting excited =)

Hi Beary,
Theres something wrong with my dial up, so I am having a hard time accessing the net. Cause I am taking a break from lab now too, so no internet access. I'm still so backward, with dialup at home. Its such a small world, I am in NUS too!
wink.gif
I understand how you feel about the research part, just hang in there for now. Once its over, the writing is much faster. Are you in science? When will the thesis be due?

Yes, its so exciting that CNY is already here, and its going to be Feb so soooon!
bounce.gif
I've finally done up the invites, will show it to you next week? Its nothing fancy though, just something simple. Dont think will have enough time to search for embosser, so may not have it for the invites but for the Thank you cards instead. Currently very excited about the wedding bands, it was designed by FH and waiting to see it at the jeweller. Hope it turns out fine... And i'm still hoping to lose weight! With CNY round the corner, its quite impossible!

Thinking about favours too, probably going to bake cookies. Do you think its okay? How about for yours? Are you using the favours from FS? Btw, never asked you, have you done your solemnization? Will it be here or in Jakarta?

Hi ty,

hey what a small world!! =) Yup, i'm in science. Food sciene to be exact. which fac ru from? I'm not sure when my thesis will be due, coz my prof is asking me to extend the candidature by abt 3 months till Oct. so most prob i'll hand up the thesis in july/aug. ru using the dial-up to NUS? it's hopeless rite..I used to use that too during undergrad days..then i gave up n switch to broadband..

ur FH is designing the wedding bands? wow... that's so cool.. sure it's gonna b beautiful, esp since it's designed by ur own FH. Ru goin back to M'sia for CNY?

Cookies for favours is ok, I went to a friend's wedding last Jan and she gave heart-shaped choc chip cookies, wrapped with clear pastics, tied with ribbon n placed inside a gold color box. Pretty nice! I'm not using the favours from FS. Decided to get from jakarta instead. Much nicer n cheaper than those sold here.. I had my solmenization last July actually, here in sg. just a small affair tho, close frens only.

oya, happy CNY! enjoy ur weekend =)

Hi Beary!
Haha, we could have sat next to each other in Sci canteen and not known! I'm in Microbio, so thats under Medicine fac. Food science.. I had a friend who did her undergrad there too! There was also this guy from food sci that did a Honours project with one of the prof here, you know him? But that was way back in 2003. There is still some time to writing the thesis, maybe you can start bits and pieces now so it will not be too rushed for you when you have to prepare for the wedding and thesis at the same time. It will definitely be an exciting July for you!
happy.gif

I totally agree, the dial-up is very slow! But I think my phone line has lots of static due to the heavy rain then, and they have yet to retify the problem. Hmm.. I should consider broadband too!

Thanks for the reassurance about the bands; FH had a certain design in mind so we went around looking for a cheaper jeweller to do them. I was actually quite surprised he was more particular about it! As for the favours, oohh, I am intending to do what your friend did, down to the gold boxes and clear plastic with ribbons! Will probaby do my own boxes. Its great that you found a good deal in Jakarta for the favours; does it mean that FS will charge you less since you are not taking their favours? And congratulations on your solemnization! So now one year on you will be having the banquet, good timing!

I'll be here for CNY as most of my parents relatives are here, and back in Penang its all the extended extended relatives. How about yourself? Have a Happy Lunar New Year too Beary!
happy.gif

Haha..tats so true! such a small world.. Who's ur friend who did her undergrad in Food Science? Maybe i know her.. the guy who did the hons project, was his name Jorry? Coz I know he was working with a prof from microbio. Yup, i'm starting to write my thesis bit by bit..or at least attempt to start writting. hee..

Ur FH is very rare i think..hehe...most guys wont really care much abt the wedding bands. When I was looking for mine, my FH only had 1 request, that his band must not have diamonds on it =P FS is super stingy! It's like impossible for them to charge less for anything. Think it's the only hotel that doesnt give any perks, coz i know some hotels give free beer/wine/corkage/extra room. So even tho I'm not taking the favours, i'm still paying the usual price =(

I'm not going back for CNY either, promised my prof that I wont take any more leave since I already took during the xmas period n there's plenty of work that I need to finish in the lab =(

Have a good CNY and enjoy ur hols!

Hi Beary!
Its Jorry all right, so you probably know my friend too! Her initials are HB, can figure out who she is? Hmm.. maybe dont post her name here, otherwise next time if she ever comes in she will be surprised.

Haha, its true that I had initially thought FH would be more laid back as to the preparations. In fact I was the one who did not want any diamonds in the band cause I wanted something simple. In the end it was his persuasion to have something unique that won the day. How about your wedding bands, where did you get your wedding bands from?

I totally agree with you about FS, just like what was posted there. I heard before that The Regent, sister of FS, also not easy to bargain for perks. Could you ask them to upgrade your flowers or anything like that? And what favours did you decide on?

How was your new year? I had to come back to see my cells. Also good la, otherwise just go visiting and eat and eat!

hi ty & beary,
mine is a v simple one..ovalish with just our initials inside..maybe that's why it's cheaper..but then again, the price i paid was back in 2001..prices might have inflated now =PP

Hi ty,

Is ur friend HB from the same batch as Jorry? Can't figure out her name...hee..or maybe I only know her by her english name.. I'm pretty sure I'd know her coz food science is a very small community =) That's so weird rite...we know the same ppl and probably pass by each other around campus and not knowing it...

I couldn't get FS to upgrade the flowers or anything at all. It's basically just the regular contract and nothing extra. But i really love the ballroom! and based on the reviews, the food and service are great. So i guess it's worth the "no perks" policy...at least i hope so...my favours will be a leather-bound memo pad with lace and a bear on top of it. Got it from Lovely Lace in jakarta coz there's no lovely lace shop in sg.

My new yr was ok...luckily i didn't have to go back to the lab. pretty boring tho, coz everywhere is closed, so i just stayed home and watched tv..

Hi KPO,
Did u do the design of the initials urself? I'm still trying to come up with a design for mine. Wonder if the shop can help me with the design...hmm...

hi beary,
ya..i did the design myself..a v simple one la. will take a photo to show you (the chop & the imprint) when i've got time.

Hi Beary,
So sorry I disappeared for so long. Now working trying not to be online so often, later boss think I am always slacking! Yes my friend is in the same batch as Jorry. I will show you the photos after the ROM ya?
I like your favours, sounds unusual to me! Its a pity that there are no such shop in Singapore, I would love to take a look at what they have.
How is the embosser coming along for you? I still have not had time to source for it. But probably have to really do it soon, otherwise no point in getting it if too late...

Hi KPO,
Ya, its true, maybe the prices have increased over the years; that means better to do now! Do share with us the photo of the embossing when you are free- thanks!

Hi ty,

U've found a job already? That's fast..congrats! =) so how's working life so far?

I haven't had the time to source for the embosser either..hee..thought of going this weekend but FH wanted to have an early Valentine's day celeb..since V day will be a weekday..

u excited abt ur ROM? hehe...1 month away =) looking 4ward to ur pics!

Thanks Beary; haha, I am just working in my lab now, so still in NUS. At least its something now, and probably only end of year then I will switch to something else. There is always something to do in the lab, like clean this and wash this.. never ending!

Ya, V day coming already! Have you bought your present? Sometimes I think its way too commercialised, out-to-make-money-gimmick-thingy but in the end I bought a watch. Meanwhile, enjoy the celebration, look for the embosser another time!

The ROM is drawing closer! I'm glad the invites are done. Pass me your email and I show you how it looks like ya?

Hi! I came across this thread. And I'm interested in buying the embosser. May I have the name of the shop at Bras Basah and the address please?
happy.gif

Hi ty,

where's ur lab? shld b somewhere ard MD side right? mine is in S3..a very long walk from the canteen =(

i havent bought anything for V day!!! oh no...have no idea what 2buy. its so diff finding a present for a guy.. i so agree with u that it's way too commercialised. everything is so exp during Vday! esp restaurants...

hey good that u finish ur invites! =) so now can concentrate on getting enuf beauty sleep and pampering treatment so can look pretty on ur big day! =D my email is [email protected]

Hi roses,

I dunno the address of the shop in Bras basah coz i haven't gone there yet..Maybe KPO can help u when she visits the forum again =) or u can try the shop at North Bridge Centre that ty has visited. The address is at the top of this page.

the shop is called Wahab @ bras basah complex (it's a wholesale shop for office stationery)...can't really remember if it's 2nd or 3rd floor..you can check out the building directory!

Hi Beary,
My lab is at MD4.. I am so sick of all the food in science canteen already!

Today there is a bazaar, maybe you can pop by the see if you can find anything for you husband there? If he like computer stuff sometimes they sell cheaper accessories. The other thing that you can consider doing is taking a valentine lovelines in the Straits times classifieds; I did that as well, just for the fun of it- declaration of love!
blush.gif
Hurry if you want to, it ends today. If not I am sure a handmade or belated present would be equally as treasured by your hubby... I totally agree that resturants and florists make the most money this time of the year!

Will send you the photos this weekend, sorry for the delay since I dont have digital camera, got to get FH to bring it. Enjoy your Vday celebration sweetie!
smile.gif

Thanks KPO, for the photo! We are also considering something simple like that.
But haha its just that our initials are KY, not sure if that is strange. So perhaps will put more initials...

Hi KPO,

Thanks for the photo and info! =) i'm considering doing something like that too, just 2 initials like what ty is planning...

Hi ty,

I'm sick of the food too!! sometimes I go over to arts for the western food or engin for vegetarian.. cant stand science canteen, always so crowded..there's more n more ppl every yr but the no of seats remains the same..most of the time i just pack n eat in my lab..

I saw the bazaar..but like nothing much..probably coz i went early in the morning at 8..hee..will try n see again ltr. I'm too lazy to make handmade presents! heee..

No hurry with the photo =) just enjoy ur weekend 1st ya..I was talking to jorry just now =P he said he knows several ppl from microbio lab. were u from NJC? hehe...
