Hi, i am marrying my wife in church, i am a Catholic and she's not. Can anyone tell me the difference between a wedding service and a wedding mass ?

Does anyone have a soft copy for a wedding service.. need to prepare the booklet.

Appreciate if you could email me a copy to [email protected]

Thanks !

Hi Fuzzy Chia,

If i'm not wrong, wedding service is a 'short' service whereby the couple exchange vows and the priest to solemnize. There will be a short one.

The wedding mass is the 'long' or the 'complete' version whereby the is march in, readings, eucharistic prayers, then the whole sequence of a sunday mass and the exchanging of vows is in the middle of it.

You might need to check with the priest again cos i'm not 100% sure that my understanding is correct.

Hope this can help.
Cheers.

Hi Miwako,

As what I know, it does apply to a Catholic and non-christian as well. But for other Christian denomination you got to check with yuor church.

I have a Christian friend, married to non-chritian, they get a solemnization from her church's pastor on theie wedding day.

Hope this can help

Hi Lilis

do you know which church is your friend belong to?
Cos my church cant give a church blessing if one of us is a non christian.
Thanks

Hi DizzyBride,

The person is my ex-colleague, I can't recall her denomintaion but if I'm not wrong she belongs to either baptist or presbyterian.

I'm sorry I don't know much about this but if you can check with your other Christian friend from other denomination, like methodist, etc

I believe there is a 'way' to work this out. Maybe you can meet up with your church pastor/priest to discuss about this again.

I hope this can help. I don;t know everything but I tried my best with what I know or heard of

Hi Serafina,

I'm not sure, but I guess you have to go to Marriage Preparation Course (MPC) before that.
The course will guide you through the process and also give you some basic understanding about Catholic's view on marriage.

The difference between the service and a mass is that Mass is with the Eucharist Celebration whereas the service do not have.

Talk to the priest. They'll have this standard book to use for weddings. Inside got both the order of the mass / service. Some priest will ask your HTB to attend some lesson of RCIA to understand the catholic faith. He'll also have to accept that any future kids of yours will have to be a Catholic.

Do have a chat with your HTB and his parents cos his parents may have certain concerns if your HTB converts to a catholic in the future. Iron these out before the marriage to avoid future disputes k.

Hi Serafina,

I'm getting married in a Catholic Church next year. And I'm not a Catholic, my fiance is. We are told to attend engaged encounter before the soleminisation. And we chose to have wedding service only instead of the mass since most of our friends and my family are not Catholic. Both my fiance's sisters has the same situation as me, both husbands are not catholic.

When is your wedding? You have to reserve a place in the engaged encounter else you can't soleminise in the church(I was told unless it is not true). And there is limited place for the encounter, so you have to book it fast once the date is out.

Hope this will help u.

Hi Josie,

I am also going to get married next year. My HTB is a Catholic and I am currently going thru RCIA to be convert to Catholic before my wedding. I might be going for a mass as most of the guests attending are my HTB's family members, relatives & FIL's frens who are catholic.

You are correct that you cant marry in the church with attending Engaged Encounter or Marriage Preparation Course. These courses are to make you aware of what you might encounter in future with ur hubby & family.

Hi Amanda,
I'm a Catholic but my HTB is not. I read from another threads that we can get married in church after he attends the engaged encounter course, but seems it's not true? My wedding is Nov next year, can you please advise what do we need to do in order to have the holy matrimony in church? how about having the solemnization in hotel by the priest, does my HTB have to attend the course?

Thanks!!!

Hi, have read through the thread but no one seems to be sure of what's the exact difference between a catholic mass and service. Can someone help please?

Thanks!

Hi,
The main difference is that Catholic mass includes the celebration of the Eucharist.

By the way, could someone please email me a softcopy a sample of the wedding service or mass booklet please?

[email protected]

Thank you so much

Hello ladies!

My FH and I are planning to host our wedding in Holy Trinity. May I know the following (if any of you have the answers to them :) ) -
  • Can the wedding be held in the main church or chapel?
  • Is it possible to host the lunch reception in the dining area in the church?
  • What will the wedding service be like? My FH is non-Catholic so I understand Holy Communion will not be given.
Thanks!
Rebecca
