catholic & non-catholic wedding dilemma

Hi, my HTB is a catholic but i'm not. so we are planning to have a church wedding and the Chinese traditional tea ceremony on the same day. anyone have any experience on this kind of arrangement? would it be better to have dinner banquet on the same day or lunch banquet the following day? any advice is appreciated. (:

Same here! Htb is catholic and i am not

We decided to skip wedding banquet but to have a lunch reception at the church. I would think having everything on the same day would make more sense (more logical money wise as well). E.g. Getting a MUA, photographers for both days! That will add on to the cost!

Hi! when will your wedding be? so you will be inviting all your guests to the church? I think both our parents would prefer to have banquet instead of just a reception. so we are quite torn.. there are some photographers who don't charge extra for split day so maybe i will be considering them. do you sign up for bridal packages that settle everything or you intend to do separately?

My wedding will be in nov this year!

Im lucky because both my parents and Parents in-law are okay with us not to have wedding banquet.

Is there any reason why you would like to split day? Are you not intending to invite all to your church wedding? For me, I will be inviting all relatives (even though my side of relatives are noncatholic), but whether they turn up for the ceremony, its up to them. Otherwise they can just come for the lunch reception later on (:

Hello! In catholic and htb is not. It's actually quite okay to have everything on the same day. My church mass is at 12pm, then I'm having a lunch for my church guests. Tea ceremony is at 3pm, and then the dinner banquet.

Im doing separately because i want to be able to choose specifics that i want. The whole sourcing and selection process is actually quite interesting for me

We were thinking if everything in one day might be very tiring. thats why a spilt day. the church that we are intending to go to is not very big so we were thinking of inviting close families for the church wedding only.

hi! we are waiting for our fengshui master to calculate our wedding dates. and he will be providing timing for tea ceremony etc too. so our sequence of events is not confirmed yet. but i was thinking tea ceremony in the morning then church mass at 12pm, followed by dinner banquet.

hey phirahh, will your church guests be going to the banquet themselves? is it a small group or quite a number? will they think it's a hassle to go to the church then the banquet?

Yes a majority will be invited to the banquet. It is quite common for this to happen (guests going morning and evening ceremonies). Some will indicate that they will only go for either. It is not a hassle since they can decide which one they want to attend? (If they thought it was a hassle anyways)

ooh i see.. i guess if they were to decide, they would just go for the banquet? thanks!

Nope! My experience (through friends weddings) is that more people opt for the church actually, because the Ang bao they have to give is lower? But ultimately it depends :)

hahaa. then how early do you ask your guests to make the choice? since need to book the banquet early. when is your wedding?

You and your htb can decide who you want to invite for the banquet since it costs more and you can't invite everyone. So those that aren't close can be invited to the church (& not banquet)?

For the church ceremony, you only have to cater lunch (assuming you are not having a lunch banquet), so you can actually deal with this portion later. The banquet numbers are more critical since it is harder to book + expensive.

July 2017 :)

Hi, my HTB is a catholic and I'm not. We are going for a church wedding with a dinner banquet on the same day. I was wondering about the church wedding service held in the morning. After the service, I will not have any recep as need to go back my place for tea ceremony. Is it very weird?

Hi Ice, for me, we will have the chinese fetch the bride then tea ceremony, afternoon will be church then followed by dinner banquet. maybe it's a little weird for yours cause the church guests may not know what to do after the morning if they were to go to the dinner banquet. i'm also not really sure, maybe can talk to the pastor.

Hi Ckmj, we haven't talk to our priest yet. Cos we would like to confirm the banquet first. And also have yet to attend the marriage course. Cos if the church is in the afternoon, I still need change back to white gown again. So ma fan. Haha.

lol i didn't thought of the changing back of gown! but the changing to the kua/chinese dress will be when going back to your parents' house only. will have some buffer before the church wedding. so should be okay~ haha

I haven't attend the course too, but have registered, attending this coming July. I think maybe the priest can give you some advice and also can check if the reception/refreshment is really needed.

Perhaps you can just have small lunch bites for your guests? Lunch should only take an hour or two at most. The tea ceremony will be completed relatively fast right? (So you have time to go for dinner)

My tea ceremony will take about an hour plus. Cos big family. Like that after lunch bite, my family need to travel back home with me for the tea ceremony wor. Hmm. This is the headache part. No recep after church seem weird. Unless I dun invite much ppl. Just close relative.

Or you can choose to do the tea ceremony in church (people have done that before). Family travelling back for this is actually v normal too.

Yup. I saw ppl doing the tea ceremony at church. Must check with my parents are they ok anot. I'm just afraid I dun have time for the lunch recep. Thanks for all the advice!! Shall discuss with my htb and family when nearer to my date.

Just secure my date today for the church wedding. And I heard that the church is going renovation and might not be complete before my wedding. Might hold in the chapel instead. :(

Which church? If I'm not wrong weddings (sacrament of Matrimony) can't be celebrated in chapels anymore. Not sure if the rule still applies, better check (:
