I worked for this MNC company (small biz) for 5 years from staff capacity of 2 to 20 now. In the eyes of all staff in this company, I am consider as a pionner staff. Thur' this 5 years, I am very multi-tasking and doing 3-4 person work scope, I worked very closely with my boss and watch the company grow day by day......... my boss give good increment every year (average of $200 and 3 mths bonus. Working life was stressful and tired but I am happy due to work satisfication and busy.....

Due to company expansions, my boss hired 2 assistants to reduce my current work load. Now I can more time for myself & hubby.... no need to work late or report to work on Saturday......
But I am feeling down and 'stupid' etc....maybe I too used to working hard and no use to the change of working life. I have told my boss that I don't feel the challenge and sense of achievement now......he replied to me is: our company is stable now, you should be enjoying the fruits now...all you need to do is to assist me to maintain the office admin now.

I was promoted twice but still not a Manager yet. I have proposed to my boss 1.5 years ago ......but seems ???? I strongly believe that I deserve cos I work smart and hard......

Due to current economy crisis, finding a new job is tough...... maybe I am overpaid, stuck in between as I don't have a degree even with very good working experiences.

Any advices? Should I continue to find job...... or stay on to enjoy the fruits?

being good at your job is not why you should be promoted. that's just succumbing to peter's principle. to be promoted, you have to demonstrate that you are able to perform at the *next* level. instead of asking to be promoted, you should work out a plan (with your boss) to prove your worth at the next level.

u sound like a workaholic... i can definitely identify with that... i guess from time to time during the really hectic periods when u're handling everything minute-by-minute and datelines day-by-day, u sometimes wish u could catch a breather... i would think NOW as u no longer have that sort of work environment, u may relish a similar one... but why not take the current lessened workload to be a breather and catchup on some time with loved ones? take it as a short break whilst finding new challenges, and at the same time re-establish your longterm goals...

it's impt for us to stop wat we're doing from time to time, and just be in touch with everything we've forgotten when slogging away at work. it's impt also for us to KNOW wat we're slogging for, and why we're slogging... i often see pple working hard, striving away with just the hope of salary going up, but without defining the WHYs, it's hard to envision the hard work paying off. Goals are just as impt as a hardworking attitude.

as for being a Manager, i guess u gotta ask yourself the purpose of that. i know many pple who have much fancier designations on their namecards than me, many pple whose namecard impresses most of the pple who receive it... but u must ask yourself if this is necessary. cos i can tell u that it makes Little difference to the actual quality of your life, unless u need that recognition and wanna be secure in knowing u're holding an 'impt' position.

i've been a positionless personnel for as long as i can remember, and i tell u what's wonderful abt it - pple can't place u Nor compare u/with u at all. no 'Wahhh', but that's abit too lame.

so be happy and take time to find for yourself - What's Next for Me?

Hi Coco,

Dun be like me, I'm jobless after almost a yr. I was like u - complaint. Why i said i deem it as a complaint cos it gives rise to negative thots. Dun diminish this little 'devil' in you.

But luckily, u managed to talk it out here. I conversed with people who sang along with me & now i am jobless. My so-cal frz justified my decisions/actions, are still working happily. Called me a weak but i learnt my lesson.

I was like u - justifying my actions & questioned pp's thots. I went on smtg like 'u see, i did this/that' or 'aiya, the boss ta stamp lah', 'he only cares for his favourites', or 'i worked so much yet boss did not appreciate me'

But wat i did not realise was i did not perform way way beyond my role. Tsk..so now 'rewarded' from my-after effect.

Always constantly reassess ourselves. Like Powder quoted in the other forum title 'Work Dilemma' that ... (Aiya, I lazy to type out here) Its all boiling down to your mind/thots.

Change ur mindset and you have a brand new world smiling @ you. It works on me though.

But dun resign impulsively. All you need is to change ur mindset & u be fine.

I dun have a positive mindset then and hence i resigned.

well, coco, u seem to put your work in high priority. If u have a baby, will u be putting in so much time to your work? Give urself some time so be used to the change your company is going thru... If u r still unhappy about your job, then mayb u can look else where. But having said that, once u have a baby, ur priorities will change again and u may wish u had a job like this one now.

Coco, there is always the right time to do the right things.. isn't it good to maintain the overall office admin and assisting the boss.. Challenges are what you perceive. Moreover you are married, thus you mus be able to stike a balance between your work and your love ones.

it will depends on your priority, $$ or deisngation more impt?
if $$ then stay at this stable job and enjoy the fruits.
i always think that no matter what u call me, as long as i'm paid to justify (actually no amt can justify) the work i'm going, am ok :-)

True.. $$ is a very important factor too.. though some people might term job satisfaction as a much more important criteria.

haha, comparing the 3, job satisfaction, $$ and designation, the 1st is def the most impt to me as i have a family with kids!
