Whilst happy and everlasting marriages are the hopes of everyone, this does not always happen in real life.

Sometimes unhappy differences may arise between couples, and it becomes necessary to consider the available legal options. As a divorce lawyer, I am happy to take questions here and provide some broad guidance, although this (for legal reasons) shall not be construed as legal advice.

Some common topics of interest may include:
- Difference between divorce and separation
- Divorce by mutual agreement and uncontested divorce
- Custody matters for children
- Selling HDB flat before divorce
- Enforcement of access orders
- Family violence - Personal Protection Orders and how to obtain one
- Prenuptial and Postnuptial agreements - do these have effect in Singapore
- How to get an annulment
- Divorce fees in Singapore
- Mediation process in divorce proceedings
- Division of matrimonial assets
- Whether divorce affects PR or LTVP status (for foreigners)

The above are just some examples questions I commonly get asked. Feel free to post your questions here and we can have a discussion. If you would like a more private and personalized consultation, feel free to reach out to me through the link attached.

Thank you for your time and your input. Like you said, there will be plenty of homework for us to do in the next few days, but if she would like to schedule a paid consult, we have your number. Thank you again!

Hello! I have a question about the process of announcing the divorce to my husband. If he has narcissistic tendencies, I don’t feel it’s a good idea I inform him and we return back to the home where we stay with the kids. Can I take the kids and leave the matrimonial home? How can I still give him access without him later taking the kids away too in the interim period before divorce settles.

Hello. Sorry to hear about your situation. Unfortunately, your situation is more common than you think. Quite a number of our female clients face this predicament. Will drop you a PM and share the advice I give to our clients facing this issue.

Hello Mr Yong, may I know what is the cost for uncontested and contested divorce? My spouse has OCPD and I think he is a narcissistic. He has a very bad temper and would be slamming door/throwing stuffs when he is mad. In our 19yrs of marriage, he mentioned "let's divorce, I thot about it for a long time already" 3 times and no action was taken on his side. However, I felt enough is enough so I am looking at filing for a divorce on my end this time round. We have 2 teenage children and I am very worried about their safety and mental health.

Thank you for taking the time to post the question. We offer fixed rate packages for uncontested divorce and for divorce proceedings up to court-mediation (which is compulsory in cases where there are children below 21 years old).

Given your concerns about your spouse’s behaviour and the children’s welfare, we will also need to discuss issues of care and control, access, and protective measures to ensure their best interests are safeguarded.

We will be happy to offer a free consultation to you at our office so you can understand more about the process and possible next steps.

Dear Mr Yong,

I recently found out my husband has been cheating on me since 2021. I have not approached him yet. I am singaporean and he is indonesian and we got married in 2017, no kids. He comes from a wealthy family and has several overseas assets whereas i have none. Throughout our marriage he made sure that our joint bank account is low (because he says he prefers to “invest” rather than having money in the bank), and he also made sure his trading account and assets does not have my name. He does not own any property in singapore and he wants to save money so he has been staying with me at my parents place for the past 6 years. I only earn minimum wage and have been supporting myself to give him less burden as he tells me he is trying to save up money for our future to buy a house and also trying to set up businesses and doesnt have a job. I was naive enough to believe him so i work really hard to sustain myself without burdening him and now i realized everything- he has money, he has assets, but he made sure i have nothing and he has been cheating on me for 5 years with different women. I have proof. However i know he is really hard to deal when it comes to money so I am afraid it will become a contested divorce.
I am sorry to ask this as i cant afford high lawyer fees, will it be possible to have a free consultation with you? I am hoping you can help me obtain a fair share of financial settlement and maintenance from my husband.
Thank you very much for even reading this. I hope I will hear from you.
