hi milo,
i think cab drivers can be more professional, you're right. but you realise that they r not the TS and friend's personal chauffeur service. like sm said, sometimes we may encounter bad service, but the attitude of the customer counts too.
cabbies have a hard time making ends meet. and i imagine if u were trying to make money to feed your family, and every passenger counts, u wouldn't want to waste your time waiting for a late passenger too.
i agree with you that the timing that the driver plans shouldn't be so exact and precise until he has no buffer time in between. but how much should the buffer time be?
if i were him, 5 minutes is the max i will wait. any time beyond that is too much already. but as you can see fr TS' first post, after 5 minutes, the friend was still not at the pick up point.
from TS: "When we reached ave 3 my friend was not down yet and then cabby started to grumble. he told me that he had already taken a taxi booking call and he will be late if he needs to wait.
5mins later, he said he cannot wait and wanted me to alight..."
since the cabbie didn't know how long more he would have to wait, and the passenger did not offer to pay him extra for his time, i think it is fair that he asked her to alight.
it is not efficient to have a long buffer time, e.g. of 15 minutes and so on btw bookings. what if he is too early? then what will he do? go for a kopi or waste petrol and cruise along the road with an empty car until the booking time?
