Does anyone have contacts of nice tailors/shops for Indian costumes for Wedding?? How much will it cost for the male and female version??

Hi Selsel, I'm actually going to see a dressmaker on Monday to have a blouse made from the saree I got from my fiance's mom as an engagement. My fiance is also going to go to a shop to have a suit made (the real traditional one with the drainpipe pants). I'll let you know on Monday evening...if you can wait that long!

can sure... i've lots of time to wait.. thot of donning the sari for wedding.. bt nt an indian thou...

thanks for ur help...

Hey selsel - it's kinda cool of you to want to don a saree. I've not an ounce of indian blood in me but fiance is of Bangladeshi descent (quite similar culture to indians) and I thought it'll be a good way to incorporate some of the indian culture in our wedding.

selsel.. i attended a indian wedding of a close friend. that day , the whole gang of chinese gals wore saree.
For simple saree, you just need to go down to little indian and search for a piece of cloth that you like. the earlier section of the cloth will be cut out to make the blouse top while the rest of the cloth will be use as the warping. Orh you need a indian to teach you how to wrap.. those instruction they give you in the shop is crap. ha haha

For traditional indian wedding, the gal will need to use silk cloth. It will be very very hot and bulky. She also will need to don alot of gold.
ha ha ha ha .. i am not sure how indian you want your wedding to be .. hee hee :P

hm... i dun want to feel hot, something easy and cooling but formal enuf... is tat unrealistic??

always very fasinated by traditional costumes by other races... and i think the sari is very beautiful and interesting... but dun think i'll spend hundreds... out of my budget... haha...

still need to convince my FH abt it.. hehe... cos i m looking at a outdoor wedding thus i think the wedding gown wld be quite a hassle...

thanks for ur info Jgal...

Hi SelSel, sorry I haven't logged on to this thread cos' only managed to pop into the dressmaker's shop last night.

I am wearing a traditional sari for my solemnisation. That can fetch anything from $100 for the more beady/embroidered ones. Mine's a gift from my fiance's mom as an engagement gift so I went to a dressmaker (Queen's Tailoring) and told her to make me the blouse, a piece of fabric will be cut from the sari to make the blouse (usually the plain one). You can tell her what kind of necklines and sleeves, if at all, you want for the blouse. My blouse only cost me S$40.00 to be made.

If you are referring to the choli gaghra, the skirt and the fitting blouse, then that is rather expensive. When I went around asking, the less ornate ones (but still beautiful if you ask me) is from S$170.00. StyleMart has beautiful ones but they are expensive!

The suits for the men are from S$200.00. I hope that helps. Go to the shops along Selegie Road (the ones around StyleMart) and you'll get a feel of the clothes).

hi,does anyone know where i can take wedding photos in indian sari?i'm a chinese but i like the sari very much and wonder if there's any photo studio where i can rent then sari and take some photos in it.can someone give me her advice?thanks

Hi Mrs Last Minute, not sure whether there'll be anywhere that rents saree....cos' most indian brides will buy the saree..as a gift from the groom's family to give to the bride..if I am not mistaken....

Hi Mrs Last Minute,
U can buy the saree and do the outdoor shots along little india at the shops...I think pretty cool. U can pose as though during your tarot card reading or just strolling from shop to shop.

I agree that sarees can be expensive and diff to wrap!

My friend wore saree for her outdoor PS and she borrowed the sari from her indian neighbours

hi

actually there's quite a of saris that cn be purchased at little india.

these days, the sari are also getting cheap with so many shops being competitive.

no worries ladies.

Hi, there's a place at selegie called Stylemart, very nice outfits, but its EXPENSIVE. U can check it out over there, they do alterations n stuff too.

I am hoping to wear either the sari for my outdoor shoot or one the actual day...however I am trying to do away with the hassle of wrapping because I know changing will take a long time..Is stylemart the one that sells those ready made ones that you don't have to wrap? Can anyone advise the price range as well?

Thanks!

hi Chael

Stylemart might carry this. But it would be a good idea for you to also check out Menu's fashion which is in the same row as Stylemart in Selegie. I saw one recently but it was about 300-400 bucks. The best place for you to try for this would be the Selegie strech of boutiques where Stylemart is but they are not cheap.
Alternatively, you could got for ghagra choli.. which is a skirt, short/long blouse and a dupata (shawl).. no tying hassle and can be quite pretty. Hope this helps.

Actually, you can ask the tailor to sew the saree cloth into ready made saree. It only cost you s$35-40. So you dont have to worry about tying the saree.

Hi gals> I love the looks of Little India. Vibrant, colorful & it is a totally different feel from the chinese style. I like to have my PS done at little India but really lost of where should I go.. Any recommendations? Along the streets? In the shops? Will the shop-keeper scold me as Im wearing normal gown (not saree)?
Also, do u know if i can go into any indian temple to shot? I know some temple require proper attire. So i doubt right? Anyone tried b4?

Actually, i hope my album will be a mix of cultures. I already had in mind for chinese style. So need advices for indian style. Welcome all advices. Tks!

Anyone have any tailor recommendation to sew saree into ready made saree??? I went to stylemart and they charge $170 to tailor a ready made saree. It's so ex, any tailor that is good and cheap?

Thanks in advance!
