Anyone can recommend a good non-oily moisturizer? I got oily skin but very dehydrated. Skin peel all the time. Have tried a few brands but non works... ANY RECOMMENDATION?

Hi Bangie,

I used to have very oily skin and I find that Avene is good! I was introduced to this brand when I went to the National Skin Centre to let them have a look at my face(had bad breakouts) and was prescribed with their gel cleanser for oily skin.

Check out the website on products for oily skin:
http://www.aveneusa.com/oily-skin/

I'm using their new range, something like hydrante for day use moisturizer.

Cheers!

i would like to recommend
1. SIMPLE brand light moisturiser
2. BODYSHOP - seaweed day moisturiser with oil balancing

hi bangie, many a times moisturisers r oily and causes more outbreaks cos they contain mineral oil, which for a while appears to "hydrate" your skin, but they actually cause your pores to become blocked, then watever other nutrients that u try to pump into your skin cant enter at all.. if u r interested to learn more, can PM me..

i will recommend you to use neutrogena
I have been using Neutrogena Visibly Clear Oil-Free Moisturiser for over 6 months.
It is perfect for oily/ combination skin as it hydrates the skin but it is not greasy.
It is absorbed instantly.

my skin is akin to the midden eastern oil fields if there is something to describe it...

lately i went on a trip to HK and rediscovered Lush again. I tried their Enzymion Moisturiser and it is FANTASTIC. it gets immediately absorbed into my skin and kept it matt for the longest time. it has a strong lemon scent so its really refreshing on oily skin too. v light and v suitable for my oily skin. Of coz they r no longer in SG so if u have friends who r flying or u can stock them up when u r in HK, Japan or even Phillipines.

use the Aveeno Positivey radiant moisturizer is oil free but it brighten
your skin tone it makes it soft less dull.

also cetaphil is good too you find at walmart, target

HI Bangie,

If ur skin is oily and dehydrated always... can try Laneige water bank series...its moisturising and no oily at all coz its water base..can try the water bank hydro gel suitable for both day and night use =)and suit for all skin type also

have yu tried either jorubi or fruit of the earth brand?

i use fote aloe vera gel. alot of cotters complained that it stings the eye area and they prefer jorubi because it doesn't, but i don't really mind the stinging because i don't even apply anywhere near my eye area anyway! besides, fote is cheaper. hehe

but aloe vera gel is very basic, and it can be used to heal any skin irritation plus provide some form of hydration. however, you need something more hydrating if you have dehydrated/dry skin. i will use it as moisturiser for my entire face whenever i get breakouts from wrong skincare product and my skin heals without any scars, although the process can take longer.

i've never tried the one from tbs though.

For Drier Skin type, you may use Clinique Dramatically Differerent Moisturizing LOTION (notice its not GEL version)

Its excatly the same texture and yellow colour, but when you smooth onto yoiur washed skin, you will feel the difference. (even in air con room)

As for the Night-a-Mins Night repair lotion, pls ask for Night-a-mins CREAM (also in a very laboratory shaped capped dark opaque brown container) The cream is meant for dreir skin to enhace the hydartion factor.

Those who happedntop sue either GEL OR Cream for these producst, pls help fellow SgBoys to share your testimonials!

You may try Water Bank Series from Laneige.. i tried this Laneige Water Bank Essence for 3 months and my skin improved much...

My friend tried Laneige Hydra Solution Essence as well... and she said it is also ok... it works for Asian skin...

I just placed order for these two items from an online shop, free shipping to singapore as our order size is over HK$1,000 (air mail)..

Does a non-oily moisturiser actually exist?

The top most layer of our skin, (stratum corneum) is a lattice of skin cells, extremely thin, with the gaps protected by lipids / fats. Think of your skin cells as a brick wall, and lipids being cement. It has to be non-water soluble, so it can retain moisture, and slow down moisture loss. On the flip side, it maintains a slightly acidic environment, so that nasty bacteria would deeply regret ever wanting to invade your skin. (That kind of just paid downpayment for new condominium but cannot find buyer for current HDB flat kind of regret)

Moisturisers? What do you want it to do? Do you want to absorb moisture? If so, then off the shelf medical glycerin works wonders, cheap and good. If you want to retain moisture, then it's obvious that your current lipid condition is secretly letting out vital moisture. If you are prone to breakouts, then your lipid deficient condition is also letting in bacteria! Yes, if your lipids had a face, I'm sure you'll punch it very hard for such a poor job done.

A quick tip. If 10 - 15 minutes have passed after applying your moisturiser, and your face still feels so oily, then it's obvious the oil is non-compatible with your skin's lipids. If it doesn't mix, it just doesn't. But it's not your fault. Not all moisturisers are equal. Creams and lotions are a water + oil mix, bound together with an emulsifier. Mineral oils are very hypoallergenic, but not exactly the most compatible with skin's lipids. (Means you won't break out, but it won't really do what you paid it to do to begin with)

Ointments are generally thick and creamy, because they contain like no water at all. They are usually protective in nature, covering the slack that your lipids may created. (Again, time to smack those lipids in the face) Very concentrated, very potent, excellent skin barrier. Used for donkey years, but recently fell out of favour, because your general consumer sees thin creams and lotions as light and non greasy. (Same way how McDonald's is a balanced diet)

Ready to take your skin moisturising to the next level?

Enough said, I'm out!

Gel-based or water-based solution are more suitable for oily skin as compared to cream and lotion based.

I have oily skin since my teenage days so i usually used watery type or gel products e.g. aloe vera gel, rosewater, witch hazel etc

Over time, my skin becomes combination so now I switch to a mixture of watery plus lotion products. listen to your skin. feed it correctly
