Any brides-to-be who are teachers?


Hi Olivia, I prefer to have my wedding during yr end cos it is a little rush to me to do it during term time.

How do you manage your time?

Thanks for your post :-) Well, I did consider during school hols (June next year) but my bf's mum thot it was unlucky to have it in the 4th month of the lunar calendar so we pushed it back to July.

I've started planning for our wedding, and settled the venue and bridal shop alrdy... I intend to rope in my friends and colleagues to help out as well :-) Anyway, also intend to use up the marriage leave from MOE (i think we are entitled to 3 days) so can have a couple of days before the weekend wedding to plan and sort out stuff.

Guess just gotta use the June hols to plan work for my students when I'm away during the marriage leave days, and do most of my wedding prep during the hols.... Initially I was apprehensive abt my wedding date, but I tink it's all working out quite well :-)

I'm getting married next June holidays.. I think I won't be able to cope with it during term time. I'm sure with the support of your family and friends (plus the 3 days' leave hehe)... everything will be great!

I wanted our wedding to be in June 2010, but my future mum-in-law wanted a later date... Hence, we choose July 3 :-) All the best for your wedding!

actually i was thinking since u are doing ur wedding during school term you might wanna split it up into 2 days becos it felt pretty relaxing to me to have tea ceremony during 1 day and banqeut on another. actually i heard that some schools permit their workers to be away on honeymoon holiday as long as they clear up their workload first before their wedding so u might wanna check out with ur school.

hello fellow teacher BTBs! i;m getting married over the long national day weekend this yr. my AD will be on 7 aug and sch hols r up till tues 10 aug. was wondering if it's possible to use my marriage leave for e following 3 days fr wed-fri so i can haf the week off for a short trip? anyone noes how the marriage leave system works?

Chrysalia> It really depends on your principal, if he/she will approve it. You have to ask him first. If you check the Ministry website for marriage leave entitlement, there is no definite set of how the system should work

hi all, my wedding date is given after consulting a geomancer. it's a weekday, during term time, end of SA1 exams

intend to take 3 days of UPA, as my hotel package include 2 nights' stay. my boss should approve, she's always asking me when i'm getting married, haha!
 
chrysalia > wow, if your leave is approved, then you'll have 8 days of pure bliss right after your wedding. good planning, hope yr boss approves!
 
are we able to apply pre-marriage leave? haha, it sounds stupid, i know! but can we apply unpaid leave for a day before the actual wedding cos I need to go for fitting on a weekday!

Hmm gumdrops, yr nick sounds familiar. Are u active in other threads here in SB? Like in a thread for a bridal studio or the bride-to-be threads?

I'm only inviting a handful as I've over 100 colleagues & also menu doesn't cater to Muslims. Inviting P, VP, my RO, & a few closer workmates. My P has been asking when i'm getting married for years, very glad to invite her.

But then it's also subject to the boss' approval. :P Got a friend who got the last week of term and first week of nov-dec hols off! and another one who took only a day. :S
 
Gumdrops > definitely at least 3 days in a row as hotey stay is 2 nights. The other 2-3 days will take before/after a weekend but prob not all 5-6 days in a row. My AD is hectic post SA1 week & I'll be busy with Sch Cockpit & preparing my class results. Teaching P6 so I'll also wanna be ard to meet with parents after the exams. How about you?

There's a day I've to be away before my AD as ROM has given me a date to go to make a statutory declaration & produce some documents. I'm wondering if that will be considered as 1 day of marriage leave or as UPA.

Any idea?
 
Eh, the Admin Staff asked me to apply as UPA (for the ROM thingy). Applied for 3 days marriage leave before that though, so I'm not too sure if all schools work the same way. :P

Wah! Teaching P6. Very hectic! Are you planning to go for honeymoon in June then..? I'm teaching P4, will be meeting the parents. Still got time. Hee.

I've booked a mini HM to go during June. Gotta be with the kids at a P6 study camp during the June hols. Year end will be the actual one hehe! How abt u?

Oooh, the 3 extra days of leave is to be utilised within 1 year of solemnisation, i read. I always lament that i can't see the sakura blossoms in Japan coz it's during term time. Hmm now i can think about how to use these 3 days of leave! Yay~
 
Use them! I'm using 5 in total (first week of June). So gonna go for a real honeymoon in June! Excited! Hee. Think P6 is really a stressful year! It's quite difficult to go away for the June hols, lots to do :\

Where will the actual honeymoon be at?

Oh u gotta work 1st week of June huh? Surprisingly, my colleagues & i dun have to come back during the 1st week of June this year. We're all down for various adventure camps/study camp last week of June. Haiz if i knew this earlier, would have booked my mini HM right after last day of sch hehee!

Actual HM's probably Europe. Where are u going for yours?

I am having my solemnisation on National Day, so i get to enjoy a long weekend to do all my preparations...do you think it is possible for me to take the upa? I will not be having any customary dinner, so can i take all the 6 days at one shot?

sunnyshine: the approval is up to your boss. if he/she approve then u can take all 6 days!

but i've heard of cases whereby leave wasn't approved at all. :\ but it's worth a try

I shall try to take 3 days of UPA after, till Wed, 15 Sep.

2-night hotel stay, and will only check out on Tue, 14 Sep.

Thu, 16 Sep, then return to sch. Or take another 2 days MC so that whole week is off?

I have already used one UPA last Dec. A day after my solemnisation, to skip one of the staff meetings.

I'm been teaching as a trained teacher for close to 10 years. OMG sound so OLD hehee!

Lilian > yeah, it's 3 days of marriage leave + 3 days to be consumed within 1 year of solemnisation. My boss has asked me to see her to arrange for the leave.

I'll need a day off before my AD, as ROM requires us to make a statutory declaration and submit some docs. That appt date & time can't be changed. Hope it won't be included as marriage leave! I've also taken 1 day of UPA for selecting HDB unit last year, and 1 day this year for making the downpayment. Think that's a separate category.

Going to have my AD this coming December.

Having the jitters now! Just realised it is so hard to invite colleagues to my wedding because everyone going away for holidays!
 
mine wedding is 18 and 24 december 2011, make it simple cos no need to invite colleagues. only relatives and very close friends.
 
hehe... my husband is a teacher and we held our wedding in January, not during holidays!

The only disadvantage is that we gotto postpone our honeymoon... cos teachers cannot take leave anytime they want. (-.-)
