Ang Pows Preferred

I am having serious problems in the wordings for in the cards as we would prefer our guests to give Ang Pows instead of Wedding Presents.

Anyone has any suggestions?

Actually not recommended to put that. A lot of couples would actually prefer $$ to anything else. But this is still not accepted in our society. You get a lot of pple talking behind your back if not opposition from parents.

If you still want, can go to Internet to search for poems to gently put those words in your card. Try www.verseit.com

HI, my friend had this poem in their card:

"If you are pondering over a gift
Here's a little hint
It's something they print at the mint
Above what you may decide
Having you with us is our delight"

Hi,

Saw this on one of my friend's invitation card.......

'If a gift is on your mind,
Cash is one of its kind'

That should be direct enough.........

Hi Yuki & Orchid,
Thanks! exactly what we are looking for.. nothing too direct, but conveys our preferences!

Some unique ones:

Your presence at our wedding is present enough!
But if we're honored with a gift from you,
may we respectfully request a gift of money
to help the dream of our new home come true!

&

We have our hearts set on a trip to Hawaii,
We're saving every nickel and dime.
So if you aren't sure what to get for a wedding present
A gift of cash would be just divine!

&

We have two of EVERYTHING because
joining lives means joining households, too!
So please don't give us another toaster --
a gift of money is what we'd appreciate from you!

Hope these helps, cheers!

Hi gals,

I did something like this during my house warming event and i am not sure about the feedback even though majority of them turn up with $ instead of another dining set or toaster. However, i can only said that i would still do it again if the clock turn back because i dont want to end up with extra dining set/ toaster/ iron that would take up space in my store room.

For my AD, i did not do so as worried about how the nosey relatives may talked and i regret it because i end up with duplicate white gold jewelleries which i don't have any need at all.

So gals, those who feel that there is a need to stress hongbaos is preferred, go ahead!

Hi gals,
this is wat my friend has given me...

No gift is too small to give, nor too simple to receive,
If it is chosen with thoughtfulness and given with love;
Our life together has just begun,
And we have almost everything under the sun;
We have enough dishes and towels for two,
So we have a favour to ask of you
To save you searching a gift for two,
A generous monetary blessing would be pleasant of you;
We hope our request is ok,
For this would really make our day;
And when we choose something new,
We can say it was all thanks to you!
Love,

hope it is useful to u...

cute! :D

i've ever received something very direct b4, like...

"if you are thinking of buying gifts, we prefer cash" or something along that line...

but i'm not offended or anything. since i guess most ppl would very much prefer cash to cover the cost incurred for the celebration etc. but these poems here are so cute! and more subtle too...

thanks for sharing~~~

hmmm... i saw some that put in 3 small pictures of gift, angpao & flower. The gift & flower are crossed, hehe.... I think it's direct enough but not offending coz it's printed very small at the back. hope it helps =D

Chocolatte...I find it cute enough to have this in the wedding card. Maybe can consider to have it in my wedding card.

Hey I think the wordings for cash is excellent! During my wedding, I receive lots of gifts which are honestly not really useful like a figurine of a wedding couple from Precious moments....dont get me wrong. Am ok wt it but honestly, the money spent could be used as ang pows.

Normally friends are the ones who give gifts rather than ang pows from experience. Relatives gives jewellery. I end up wt a bangle which I cant wear cos my wrist is too small and bangles cant modify at all. So kept at home.....i think rotting...hahaha

Will it be rude to have that printed in cards and how would relatives think? Esp the older ones?
Can print two sets, one set for relatives and one sets for friends n col.?

I had mine printed on the invite card as "Cash gift preferred". It hasn't come across as rude, not even with the older relatives.

In this time and age, this is accepted in our society. And would you rather have ppl giving you pressies that you hv no use or cash? We and our parents even spread the news that our dinner has lobster and guest can expect an abalone each (not slices). Everyone is amazed by the food and its quality, and of coz the ang pow is good too!

words of mouth can mostly reach to friends and is hard to mension to relatives.

But will still try, personally i like the idea of the icons printed on cards.

i think it's quite easy to mention to your relatives.. just get your closer relatives (parents, grandparents, aunty, uncles) to spread to the not-so-close ones..

Usually relatives are the ones who'll give ang pows. Friends are the ones who might give a wedding present instead.

For me, I indicated on my invite card as "Cash gift preferred" and I get 100% cash ang pows. In fact, friends feedback that this is a good move. My relatives aren't offended too.

the poem is a good idea, its sweet and not offensive but then my guests,like the not so literate ones or those with poor english may not understand...so how?

I though most of us give ang pao as wedding gifts dont we? I would think the phrases/ poems are great to use for house warming...

I have already given all the invitation cards, so far all the ppl who received the card understood the 2 symbols in it. =)

haha.. reading ur msgs amaze me.. =P I never knew such things existed. Im not focussed on the AP though..just worried I get gifts we dun appreciate and it's not nice having them take up space in your new home, or what more, if ur staying with the in laws how much space is yours to be, no space lah..hahah..
Poems seems gentle..& nice.. esp if it brings laughter to the receipient.. will let my fiance know..=P hehe...haha.. but will it back fire? like wah thos couple asks and they purposely give otherwise..hahah..
But usual is AP so no worries.. haha..
Thanks!
