All blur newly weds gather here!

haha stepford, just kidding la. no blood. my bunny has wheat inside but still the sight of seeing her so skinny will really make me sad. so this kind of thing must make my hubby do haha

oops. realised i didn't say anything to JOY:

hey joy, i also enjoy reading simply her and.... gulp.... women's weekly (siam-ing everyone's rotten tomatoes). both rather auntie but what to do, the tips in there very happening la. my ah lao say i becoming very auntie liao and he will buy curlers for my next birthday

PB, you sound like my younger sis who used to be uber attached to her stinky dirty baby bolster which she grew up with.

keke i had a mini pillow and bolster set that i kept from babyhood to maybe age 17? haha. i threw it away myself. it was too disgusting to keep!

haha ya it prob smelt quite bad! but hey, this is not the place to discuss it. we should start a thread of 'smelly kids stuff' or something and continue there haha

PB, keke... maybe there are more girls out there who are sama like you!

Back to proper business... I'm not sure if anyone does this but my Mom taught me to put some rice grains together with the salt. Says it will keep the salt dry.

sure got one! only shy to admit only! keke.

ok this is not an auntie tip, just a sharing: comfort brand, relaxing green 'flavour' softener smells absolutely heavenly. i go into a daze after hanging each batch of wonderfully smelling clothes

PB, I find even with the softener added, my clothes are still rather stiff after drying. Only soft when I put them in the dryer.

PB, I need the dryer espy when it's monsoon season or when I run out of 'drying space'. Don't you just hate the smell of clothes not fully dried? Then again, the dryer consumes alot of electricity so use sparingly.

actually my place the clothes dry quite fast. my papa doens't allow me to hang clothes outside (he scared i fall down) so ah lao and i always hang inside. but they seem to dry pretty quick leh.

ya i would guess the dryer isn't too wallet friendly! plus our place is rented so we figured no point buying too many things

hello fellow blur newly weds. i posted this somewhere else and thought you might like a copy too. it's a really really really sibeh happening roast chicken recipe that i memorised from a jamie oliver cookbook

step 1:
go market/supermarket/catch one chicken in malaysia kampong.

step 2:
marinate it with black pepper (hello, crushed ok, not the seeds) and olive oil and salt for at least 1 hour. marinate inside and outside. cover and put in fridge

step 3:
add plenty of basil, italian and thyme inside and outside the chicken.

step 4:
cut potatoes. i usually use russett potatoes. just any ang moh potatoe can. those kind can eat the skin kind. not our local ones. not that i racist or what but really, local potatoes cannot make it for this recipe

step 5:
boil potatoes with some garlic and 1 lemon for about 10 mins

step 6:
heat oven to about 200 degrees (celcius).

step 7:
puncture a few holes (use chopstick) into lemon (hot hor, be careful) and then shove lemon and garlic into chicken's a** (serious)

step 7(a): if your oven has the stick that your chicken can rotate on
shove the stick up the chicken's a** and place potatoes on tray below chicken. let it spin round and round for 1.5 hours, moving the potatoes occasionally.

step 7(b): if your oven don't have that stick thingie
donch worry, still can make this chicken dish. just put potatoes in bowl, put chicken over potatoes and leave in oven for 45 minutes. then take chicken out, rotate potatoes a bit, put chicken back on, and leave for another 45 minutes

step 8:
when 1.5 hours is up, take lemon and garlic out and rub over chicken's skin.

step 9:
serve with veggies and eat

step 10:
say thank you pinkbunny for this sibeh happening recipe

PB, that sounds quite easy to prepare or you make it seem easy-peasy! I never baked a chicken before so let me try this one day, after the bird flu scare is over or is it over?

it's really very easy. can you imagine, i was in a bookstore and i acually memorised the recipe, went back and immediately looked for my MIL. wah super angkat man!

i usually buy from wet market cos can ask the uncle to chop off the heat. if from supermarket, usually the chicken head is still attached :S

dunno about bird flu man. i just cook! hehe cos i really lurrrrve this dish. we serve it at home when we have guests. very can show off one this dish haha.

stepford: you can pour this liquid thingie found in DIY shops. that usually works by dissolving hair. not a permanent solution but at least it cures it a little. if it persists, you prob got to call a plumber. we had the flooded bathroom problem a while ago. the plumber finally found a COFFEE STRAINER in our pipe. old house - you'll never know what you'll find! want me to intro my plumber to you? his name is ah chua

pink bunny... i didn't know they r selling dissolving hair thingy... maybe i shld buy n try... is it fr those Home Fix DIY shops?

they don't call me 'auntie' for nothing! haha. actually it's my ah lao who told me about it. we bought ours from home fix DIY at ikea. i think any one of these hardware shops will have. can't remember but i think it's about $12. there are diff kinds - check with the people and ask them for clogged with hair specifically if that's your prob

I've tried this dissolving hair thingy before, not the liquid one, but the powder form. Followed the instructions on the bottle which was to pour one capful into the hole in the sink then had to wait for about one hour before running water through. Nothing much happened the first time I tried as the sink was still clogged. Then my friend annoyed me so much. So angry, angry to let off steam, I poured half a bottle of the powder into the sink. Then the pipe in the sink started to 'croak' like there was a toad inside. Anyway, waited half a day before running water through the sink and guess what .... water went straight through, the pipe had cleared up. So the moral of the story is, its good to be angry sometimes especially if it helps you to unclogg your pipes.

softener as in the thing to clear the sink? er that's a liquid to clear sink chokes.

or softener for clothes? relaxing green. the brand is comfort. very nice smell

hi hi! everyone had a good weekend?

found another recipe that i've yet to try but wanna share:

season small pieces of chicken (even smaller than bite sized) with salt and pepper and parsley and basil). fry garlic in olive oil, then add in chicken, then add in spaghetti, and chilli padi/chilli flakes. can throw in more parsley (the prepared kind) and basil at the last minute also. mmm mm sedap!!

stepford, how did you manage to find the pipe cleaner? i saw at giant over the weekend and i thought of you immediately!!!

good evening.. hey another bride gave me an idea. we should not call ourselves Auntie lah.. we should position ourselves as the Martha Stewarts of Singapore hahaha.. Housekeeping with Finesse!

By the way, the housecare class is on. Couple of brides will be comin with their hubbies so that we can show them housework is really simple and 2 can make it even simpler. if wana train hubby, better train within the first 1-2 months before bad habits start forming and you have to pick up after them for the rest of your lives (that's another TIP!!)

Anymore of you would like to join us in this gathering, let me know lah. It'll be on 27th May. 2pm.

email: [email protected]
me consolidating the list.

Hi PB, no time to look for the dissolvent you recommended so currently relying on the pump. ;) Hey! Minus the chicken, and replace with clams, your recipe can be transformed into spaghetti vongole. I have somehow developed a liking for capsicum too. Not sure if you like but it adds a distinct flavour to spaghetti.

hi hi,

got a tip for you all (from home & decor magazine):

by setting your thermostat (of the aircon) properly, you will save on your monthly electricity bills. a comfortable setting is 24-25 degrees. for each degree your thermostat is lowered, you pay 3-8 % more.

also i heard that you pay something like $1 a night in electricity bills if you use the aircon, and only 10 cents if you use the fan.

hands off the aircon control, ladies!

And it is free, if you open your window on a dark, windy night?

When I was in uni, I used to work part-time for a disabled couple and the lady of the house taught me to cook this. Its a pretty healthy meal. All you need to do is chop vegetables and dump them into a roasting dish. Hence I've nicknamed it 'CHOP & DUMP'. Its easy and as I usually get the hubby to chop up the vegetables (if he's around) its not too taxing to cook this after a hard day's work.
happy.gif
Don't need to chop veges into small pieces, large chunks will do as they will be roasted in the oven. As for ingredients, use those vegetables that can be roasted (not the green leafy ones or else they'll become black like carbon).

I usually use these as ingredients: large onion, potatoes, white mushrooms, capsicums (red, green and/or yellow), tomatoes, celery, courgettes etc (how much you want to add depends on how big is your roasting dish). Grate cheese to cover. Sprinkle a little salt, pepper and dried herbs (e.g. basil, oregano, mint or whatever you can find in your cupboards). Pour over 1 tablespoonful of oil and pop it into the oven at ~150°C. Its usually cooked when you can smell it (about 20 mins). Hint: Potatoes usually take a little longer so may have to roast them seperately. For a non-vegetarian dish, I normally chop up some saussages and add it to the dish before roasting.

it happened that last night was a dark windy night.

yoo hoo. happy (yawn) monday to all.

here's a super auntie tip for you all. you know the paper towels that restaurants charge you for even though you say you don't want? bring home, and clean your stove/coffee table/dining table. i know it sounds terribly auntie but it's so useful!

Hey PB! I switched to using Comfort and am surprised that the softener actually softens!!! Now, I have dumped Softlan. ;-) Thanks for your tip!

hey stepford, how is your pipe doing?

another tip: after marketing, separate your ingredients into smaller packs so that when you defrost to cook, you can decide how much you want instead of being 'forced' to cook all.

and label them. after freezing, pork, beef, chicken, fish all can look the same! keke

Hi Gals

Just to check, do you go for any medical check up b4 marriage or b4 planning for kids. Where can I go for such check up?

Hi PB, pipe is so so... hopefully it doesn't vomit on me! I do separate my food too but I prefer using colour coded plastic containers so it's easier to stack them up in the freezer and they can re-used after washing.

Hi mikiko, I suppose if you are truly concerned about certain matters, you and your spouse might want to go for a medical checkup for assurance. If you are planning for kids, then a checkup is essential to make sure you are in the expectant condition. I went for one cos we are planning for a baby, just to see if I have fibroids or whatever. You can visit any gynae for this checkup.

Hi stepford

Thanks for your info.... Both me and my hubby shld go for the check up or check up just on me? Any gynae to recommend? We are very newly wed couple we just got married this mth and we hope to have kids soon...

Hi mikiko, I visit this lady doc because I'm quite uncomfortable with stranger men feeling me down there so it's up to you. Her clinic is at Ghim Moh. Buzz her at 64674333. Her hubby is also a gynae so if you want, your hubby can see him separately.

Hi mikiko: Both you and hubby should go for check up. Don't always assume the problem lies with the woman. You'd be surprised at the many cases of infertility where the problem lies with the man.

I see a female gynae too. Dr Yvonne Soong. Be prepared for the long waiting hours. Even with appointment, I have to wait an hour each time.

stepford, what's the name of the clinic for your gynae? i live in ghim moh.

i've been recommended to dr madeline tan at thomson, and dr cordelia han at raffles. we're considering which hospital we want to pop at before deciding which gynae to go to.

i've been to dr henry chong at gleneagles. he's ok i guess but like stepford says, i'd prefer a lady doc. even though men will be more sympathetic, i think it's hard for them to understand when i say 'it feels like i'm having a bad period cramp' know waht i mean?
happy.gif

lipstar: what kind of check should the guy go for? general check up or specific?

PB, the name of the clinic is Merlion Clinic. You can pop in for a look. She's very nice and will take time to listen to you. Her hubs works at Gleneagles, if I do remember correctly.
