morning! today so hot!!! i nearly melt when i stepped out of my house.

i like oysters... but not too much.. if not very jelat... orh lua i also like... with baby oysters, the round small small ones.. very sweet... hum i also eat.. but must be at least 80% cooked... i have a friend who eats RAW ones... yucky...

yes yes! I have an ex-colleague....who will ask the auntie not to cook the hum whenever she orders the laksa from her. And hor...the most disgusting part is...she always have a packet of hum in her fridge....as snacks!

what u see if prob the Jaguar X-Type, they call it the baby-Jag which is meant to compete in the junior executive saloon class... it's going for 127k on saturday, now shuld be 132k liao... anyway it was as cheap at 123k 2mths back... that's cheaper than a BMW.

the other one u see is the Jaguar S-Type which is phased out liao.

ya... my friend's uncle went and ate at least 40 oysters *puke*

the RAW HUM friend of mine will only ask the zhi char uncle to just go through the HUM under boiling water for a few seconds (just to faciliate opening of the shell) and serve it to him... how to eat??? cannot la.. i nvr take hepatitis injection leh
 
I never eat hum cos my dad told me he and his frens used to dig for them in the muddy swamps when they were kids. It's where pple and animals just crap all over the place. Basically the hums are chockfull of shit. Must wash v thoroughly before eating. Just grosses me out.
 
powder, if jaq is cheaper than BMW, then what abt merc, is it more ex than jaquar too? why do ppl buy jaq? is it an image ? i am just trying to understand buyer behaviour.

if u look at the base models for the brands...

BMW 320i - 137k (was as low as 123k last year)
Merc C200 - 148k
JagX-type - 132k
Audi A4 1.8t - 142k

actually why pple buy this brand and that... it has so many factors... for BM and Merc it's abit of an image thing BUT there's real die-hards who like the car for what it is. but just comparing base models Hor...

Merc's interior is unbeatable, it's a Spa that pampers... but the massage is so-so (performance). BMW is a great massage, but the Spa doesn't feel very pampering... both cars are Rear-wheel driven, and some enthusiasts swear by rear-wheel drive cars. (of cos some young punk idiots dun know the freakin difference and typically crash their car around corners when they freak out at high speed)

Audi is fast catching up, and more for those who want something different... cos BMW320 is as common as your corolla... C-Class gives a feeling u're just a wannabe (public perception)... although i feel every car have their merits. but sporeans typicall buy cars on peer/social pressure, besides finances.

Jags have always been a class above the above 2, but that's also down to perception. Jags have been in the 300k range since i was a kid... but the designs are getting dated til a recent revamp... u shuld check out the new CX-F which i posted the pict last week.

spore's mkt abit different... the price itself brings up the 'prestige' sometimes... and most sporeans will choose BM over Audi...

let's put it this way... Volkswagen was viewed as a rather upmarket brand some time back, it's a wannabe if u ask me... interior sucks and falls apart after awhile... if u look at the interior of the Beetles/Passat/Bora... actually for that matter - How to beat Mercs? hehe...

so depends on wat u going for... image, prestige, interior, drive, performance etc etc...

dun say leh.. I remember once I was in Marche last time ah.. they have those steaks counters rite? then I was ordering my sirloin steak hor.. got tis ang mo kia. ah.. ang mo lang la.. not kia liao.. ard 30+. the guy ask him how would he like his steak ah.. u know wat his ans was?

for me its like ohh.. medium rare.. then the guy say.. 10secs each side.. both me & the cook was like blurr out lor! then look at each other. the cook ask sorry pardon me?? the guy repeat.. 10 secs each side.. best is the guy help the cook to count leh.. then end up serve him a steak which is totally raw to me lor.. pengz..

wonder how is he gg to eat it man!!
 
wah powder, car lecture today har.. keke... I go for a Jag anyday over Merz and Beemer, man.

skylar, there are restaurants that basically serve raw meat. THere's a dish called tartar steak.. it's basically chopped raw beef fillet. If u watched an episode of Mr Bean, u'll know.. keke..
 
powder, agree mostly but not all BM (talking about myself) buyers are based on image and perception.

When I bought my first BM, I agree it is based on image and perception. Can't run away from that. But after that, I just can't change into another brand. It is that difficult - not for the lack of wanting to change.

The BM 3series for eg, has a history of 30 years - still the same 3series and being refined over the years. Audi is sure nice to drive but still a bit lacking (not in feature, cc or performance though). Not true that only in SG people choose BM over Audi. In the US market, BM and Merz outsell audi 2/3 to 1.

Audi is really up and coming. The A4 series is 13 years? Still a long way from the traditions of BM or merz.

Jaguar is really a class in itself. Too bad it suffers badly in recent years.

So for me, between Merz and BM - it is an easy choice.

dun misunderstand lah... me said "BUT there's real die-hards who like the car for what it is." i got alot of BM-convert frens who swear by the rear-wheel drive n performance. i came from driving a few 3 series too...

i'd take the BM over Merc in the past... but nowadays getting old leh, really into interior liao... but when i step into an Alfa, both cars can fly kite liao... hehe. all upto individuals... in the last 3weeks, 4 of my frens all bought the 3-series... 3 becos of image, 1 becos of performance.
 
yeah - rear-wheel is actually perfect balance .. if you do cornering you will know..

Actually for people who like cars, cars preference is very personal. For people who don't know much about cars - they just buy blindly and follow the crowd.

Hehe.. ya car preference is v personal. I dun claim to know much so it's usually form over function for me. It doesnt really matter abt the difference in performance... 200bhp or 300bhp? When do we get to use that power on our rds.. hmm?
 
speaking of cars, G~gal, we saw 2 different red RX-8's within minutes on the way home last night, and another blue one this morning.

and we also saw a super old 1970's BMW and another merc from the same era.

btw, how does the car plate system work? why is it that we can see super old cars with very new car plates, and vice versa? which era are 'E' plates from?
 
E plates are from the 70s to early 80s

After Ez (around 1984 I think) they started with SBA

When you buy a new car, you can transfer the old car plate to the new.
 
Ya... E plates around 70/80 cos my dad used to have 1. But can u keep the old car plate at no extra cost even after u scrap ur old car?
 
ooh... then how is it possible for the old BM to have a SF- plate?

We also saw another classic beetle the other day with a SG- plate, but I thought vintage cars use a different set of plate numbers?

Then there are also the "S xxxx CD", "SE xxxx A" type of combinations.
 
you mean SF, SG as in new car plate..

Yes it is possible because you can change the old car plate on old car onto new car and vice versa
 
RaRa, the other day I saw a DX x S plate near my workplace.. must be Somebody's car... windows all tinted, but I saw some children inside. Some car plates are reserved for the Who's Whos..

ggal, i know what you mean. i used to feel this way too. i wonder whether it is in the mind or what? so i tell myself, work for the $... then look for satisfaction outside work like learn new things etc. but this is just me la.

maybe powder can throw some light on this. he is machiam the career guru.
