A Place for Singles

if i say dun play money with my friends they will tell me dun play better haha!

milo, ya true.. especially lady drivers.. hehe.. although i'm one.. sometimes really hope those that can't drive dun drive.. can't stand those who can't handle FWD and driving such a big car and so dangerously..

simpleman.. 3 legs no good for MJ training la.. 4 legs one better, can control cards and all.. 3 legs only concentrate on own cards and do big...

simpleman, u play quite big.

MJ is a fun game only when playing with friends. For me, when playing big, its more for gambling than the fun liao.

Cecilia, its not really the gender that is the problem but the lack of exposure & driving experience. Putting such a driver behind such a powerful vehicle can be dangerous to other road users.

cecilia, 3 legs is to train you to see your cards cos most of the time is one colour. you need to know quickly what card you need,, what card u can game..

ya MJ is very fun with or without the stakes. for me, i prefer not playing with money be it with family or friends. not everyone is a graceful loser, and win too much also paiseh. it's more of a game where people can enjoy and catch up with one another at the same time.

milo, used to be BIG and regular..

Actually big is relative. Some of my kakis play even bigger (they play $5/$10). I see also shock cos can lose up to 10K. I don't play that big. Biggest I played is $3/$6 but mostly $2/$4 or $1/2 (up to 6 doubles). Even then must carry cheque book all the time.

Actually MJ is interesting esp if you have the right kaki. All things being equal when you play big but regular the money just do rotation lah.

oh ya.. 3 legs train to see own cards only... i normally prefer to play 4 legs.. more mind and controlling..

milo, some ppl really can't drive for nuts... even after 20 years of driving. hmm... but it makes me wonder.. what really constitutes a good driver? there is this lady (auntie) i was driving behind taht day on CTE, no jam, but she was at the extreme right lane of CTE all the way to AYE... and travelling at 80km/h.. hogging up that lane.. few cars had signalled or honked at her, but she refuse to change lane (not much traffic) ... yes she is safe driver.. no doubt.. cos after so long way she still wanna do 80km/h on the fatest lane... but good?

MJ without stake is no fun lah. cos it is a skill to size up the cards to decide whether to throw a tiles or not. If no stake, aiyo, anyhow throw lor.. no need to use brain.

At least some small stake is required.

rara, precisely.. on the mj table you can tell who is a graceful loser, who is the da fang one.. who complain about cards one.. so you can tell their character. I think the true color all come out.

simpleman, i flashed my headlights at her a few times, honk at her.. but darn it.. she still the same.. i tailgate liao i think she also scared, until AYE change to 2nd lane... when i go past her she was sitting so close to trhe wheel and holdiong with 2 hands tightly.. i mean if not confident enough to drive better not drive.. if not you not only pose danger to yourselves but others..

no leh, we play for pride and satisfaction! haaha... in fact for the people i play with, it's not as fun playing with stake because they will win anyhow win small small to avoid losing big. so i guess it's really the kakis that matter!

cecilia, OK.. If I am free I will go right in front of her.. then I will slow down to 70km/hr

I got a friend who is worse. He will overtake go in front.. and then he will slow down to almost standstill and brake!

btw,

Cecilia,

No such thing as fastest lane but for overtaking. It is not a lane for driving fast. :p

Anyway, those that doesn't respect the rules isn't just aunties. Comes in all ages including those 'professionals' on the road in Toyota Crown.

My mum is one of those that sit so close to the steeling wheel and drive like a snail too. I know she offended many drivers with her 'safe' driving. It is evident from the 'scars' on her car. Initially, I heart pain, polish for her. After a few cars, the scratches doesn't stop. I also give up already.

Actually, when I see auntie, I am more forgiving. I cannot tahan those young kid drivers. No excuse for their slow reflexes!

SG drivers still have mentality that it is alright to travel at 80/90 km/hr on right lane as they are travelling within the speed limit.

drive at Geylang. those professions show you precision driving by cutting 4 lanes & ebrake with no space in between to pickup passengers.

simpleman, for me, it depends on my mood and the attitude of the driver behind. If he politely signal or give me space, I would gladly move aside.

If he flash and tailgate. I will slow down to 80km and match the speed of the car on the left. Likewise, if others give way, I would gladly acknowledge & wave.

milo,

wah u also so kuai lan huh?

I won't go to that extent lah.. mostly I will let him pass ... this type of driver you want to stop also cannot lah.. cos he will go to extreme left lane then cut in again.

OK I do that all the time if the driver in front is an arsehole who refuse to move ... Normally I would signal, then horn or flash.. I won't tail-gate.. too dangerous.. still cannot then I will go left lah.

Wah. U all very heong leh. No scared candid camera meh? I drive at 90 or 100km/hr on rite lane one. Usu happens when I spot a camera, freak out, brake to 90 & scared shitless, continue all the way to office. :P Juz can't remember where the cameras r. Plus the ambushes by TP.

laundry, hey hey I have been ziping around expressway at 120/130 and so far have been booked once on tpe by uncle (few years back) - he said i was travelling at 115 when I was at 125. So ok lor, just deduct points and fine.

Most of the time I am alert to the surroundings. A few times I spotted uncle hiding and of course I slow down lah.

laundry, see camera don't freak. No need to brake (or lightly), just let go accelerator.

If 90km/hr limit.. normally they give u 10% allowance lah.. so you at 99 still OK i think

Simpleman, u still hv time to admire the scenery ah?

Light brake lah. Nonid to jam brake to reach 90. Cannot wait liao. My office area got A LOT of TP & a few cameras around. So many stones on road & motorbikes too! Car surface scratched beyond recognition. :P

simpleman, yah. if my mood is foul, i tend to be KL.

He can by all means go to the extreme left to cut in. But mostly, I du lan by those idiots that tailgate when obviously there isn't space to move to. It happens during heavy but moving traffic. Those suckers stick to your backside so close that you can even see his pimple from your rear mirror.

I hate those kiasi jokers that jam brake till 70+km/h just before the camera when the limit is clearly 90km/h. I have never gotten a speeding ticket, not even once for driving at 95km/h pass these cameras. Its okie to slow down, everyone can understand that but already at 90km/h still want to jam brake to suddenly bring down to 70km is dangerous and damn irritating.

yup taxi drivers... dun check blind spots also..but their cars are really lousy.. so dangerous...

simpleman, i will do that too! even travelling at 120km/h there's a faster car i will let him overtake.. singaporeans shold follow m'sia 'highway traffic courtesy'

ya milo.. ya overtaking lane.. but i bet she is not trying to overtake.. cos the lane on her left side is faster...

jamming brakes at expressway is a killer... i kena warning once... i was actually at 100km/h at lentor ave... but was let off with a warning... the speed captured was 89km/h... the speed limit there is 70km/h or 60km/h i can't remember.. lucky only warning...

my hb one of those who like to jam brakes if some one tailgate him...

cecilia,

Ya on NS highway there was once I was already at 180km/hr and this bloody BM suddenly appeared behind me. Have to let him pass.

Another thing is that with moderate traffic.. it is actually much faster to use left and centre lane because all the morons are on the right lane. Left lane practically deserted except for those very slow big lorries and trucks.

ya thats what happens sometimes.. left lane deserted.. noticed the vans and lorries who are supposed to use 3rd lane jam up the 2nd lanes too... anyway i just hate the traffic in singapore... haha! parking difficult also. weekend can't drive cos go orchard also no where to park.. even the most expensive carpark is full

siao u neber die before ijjit?

basket, u know when car breakdown doesn't reflect car itself unless u see alot of the same car breakdown... otherwise it's mostly the bo-chap drivers who dun do maintenance, dun service, or it could be simple case of running out of petrol or battery weak...

anyway not me cos i'm not in spore.

oh ya, i've owned 3 alfas and since 1999, none ever broke down before... only 1 cannot start cos battery gone liao... hehe. actually the only car tat ever broke down on me is a 1994 hyundai sonata... otherwise for those battery problem cannot start type not counted lah, tat's personal fault.

simpleman, when was tat man? when younger i used to drive 200kmh on NS Eway cos i go KL 3x a week. tat's on a blue BM325i... but hor, i kena pull over by Proton Saga than ran faster than me... i go up to 220kmh they can still keep up. then i see the small sign "Polis"... wah piangz!

alamak, finally my sperm brudder is here..

everytime a car break down u will tend to see wat kind lor.those exp one hor u always think wah the car so good y still can break down??..i even saw a new Merc broke down in CTE b4..was think how come so suay, new car leh..

powder, ha ha not you lah.. cos it is a 7 series. That was in 2004.

the poliz proton modified one lah.. normal one cannot go up to 220kmh.

Actually I much prefer the old malaysia road - the winding one on the east coast - going at high speed is more fun there and you have to overtake like 5 or 6 trucks at a time with traffic coming on the other side. Wah, those were the mad days.

Actually I was wondering how can anyone drive until no petrol in SG? Can pump dun pump want to wait until it stall is it?

Even battery flat can be prevented most of the time. You will know when you start you car in the morning if the battery is weak. so time to check battery. Guess a lot of us are lazy to ignore the signals.

think in early 2000 u might see more merc Eclass being towed... wah sperm brudder somemore... hehe

i tell u secret of alfa wan or not? buy this kind of car must wack... just basing on local owners hor... i tell u, those always rev upto 5000-redline normally no problems with car.... those change gear at 2500rpm or less tend to have problems... so if u buy a pony, ride like it's a pony... if u buy a stallion, ride the horse hard...

can!!!! aimpleman i was flabbergasted when my friend drove until no petrol!!!! wa lao i was liek how can there be such a person??? so i wait by the car, he got buy petrol from petrol kiosk.. and i tell you, that time he was driving a 206CC ok! kaoz.. super embarassing.. and not once, twice but THREE times! lukcy i was ard once only... i nearly dun wanna talk

simpleman u mean the B-roads...? desaru / sebana kind isit? damn shiok but extremely dangerous also...

erm got... got pple run out of petrol... i'm the person they call... damn lay chey, have to go petrol station buy the tin then pump into the tin then go pour into the car with a funnel... tat's why good to have a funnel in the car. this one more for cars that has high fuel consumption... not possible on toyota wish or honda fit... FC too good liao!
happy.gif

people who drive until no petrol..aiyo. quite a moron leh.. can't even read the fuel guage ..

or simply bo chap?

then you people still go to help

simply bo chap lor.. these ppl i will laugh at them.. somemore can standby the petrol tin and funnel.. machiam knowing they will run out of petrol... once worse... no funnel.. tear a page of magazine cover (so that thick enough), and pour the petrol in... thats the situation i was in when my friend petrol ran out... the petrol was all over my hands!

Driving at speeds at 200km/h gives u no room for errors. Any sucker filter suddenly and u will be in for trouble.

I have never drive at such high speeds with my family or personal car. Only when I'm overseas using rented cars, driving on low traffic highways will run up to 160-180km/h. Small economical cars can't reach 220km/h at all.

At 200km/hr who can filter onto your lane?
Or you are talking about the car on the left in front? Ok at any high speed say at 120km/hr onwards, if the moron on the left dun't give signal and suddenly filter onto your lane - I don't think anyone can do anything, not to say you are at 200km/hr or 120 km/hr.

At 200km/hr, you will be so fast to pass the car that the window for him to filter to your lane is very small.

The most dangerous thing at high speed say above 150km/hr is the sudden appearance of obstruction in front - stalled vehicles, accidents in front, etc etc. So if your car can travel at high speed, make sure it has good brakes as well and you can see far enough. Of course if it is raining then you can't go too fast. Around bends when you can't see far enough you have to slow down.

That said. Speeding at high speed (hard to define what speed is high speed) is dangerous so you have to pay for the consquences if something happen.

hmm.. taxis like to suddenly filter without giving signals...

one more thing hor, i hate those drivers who wanna overtake but overtake so slow!! thats very dangerous.. and they must always step on brakes when overtake even no cars in front... this i dun understand
