Actually I am a 2nd Hand car owner. Understand that most singaporeans like a new car. I only own one new car (first one) but once you drive you car for a month or so, it is for all intent and purposes a "used" car. I sold that car after 3 years and since then have bought many more "used" cars. Actually used cars are easy to maintain and you don't have to worry much about dents and scratches (unlike a new car). For new car (1st 3 years at least) you tend to maintain the car accordingly to the manufacturer's recommendation, ie service every 10K or 6 months. For a used car, you can actually stretched it without much harm, for eg, 20K or 12 months (or 15K or 9 mths) for each servicing - of course once a while you check on your own the engine oil, radiator, the brake fluid etc etc. Much more fun to own a 2nd hand car.
For my current car for eg, I bought it 2nd hand it was slightly less than a year and only did about 10,000km (1st owner travelled a lot overseas and did not drive) and I got a discount of $50K off the price of a new car.
