ggal: no. Nuaing at home. Actually spent a lot of time packing the house, clearing the children's room to prepare for the new year. And then spent a lot of time orgazning old videos, photos.. etc etc..

Now every in gear, the children started their routine..

I go nature walk frequently.. but latino wanted to join but I don't normally walk on sunday. Since she can only walk on sunday I guess I can accommodate.

I'll lead as in walking in front?
 
I 2nd ah siao!! I'm surrounded by nature everyday liao... even got mozzie in my office cos of the rain. :P Prefer somewhere to chillout but quieter pls! The last outing at Loft was a bit too noisy to chat.
 
Hey anybody knows when HDTV will be available to the masses? Must buy a receiver / set top box thingy?? I got my LCD yesterday but was disappointed that the images are not so clear leh. Hb says it's got to do with our antenna.:P Even our VCD/DVD dun seem as clear as it should be.. something wrong w our connection?
 
Hey ah siao, there's this nice quiet cafe at Vivo.. called Corduroy Cafe. Been there a few times. It's quite quaint and has an old-world European charm...

You got your TV signals off the attenna? No SCV points?

Anyway, LCD is not great for watching TV - SCV or not. It should be better with DVDs.. however, it really depends on the LCDs TV that you bought..
 
Simpleman, I got the Samsung R71 series LCD. I got SCV point lah, but maybe not in the study room where the LCD is placed. I tried with DVD but maybe the images are not so clear cos our player is a cheapo one? We dun mind watching limited channels cos we think subscribing to cable is a waste since we seldom watch tv except for certain programmes.

wud like to share my little experience with our LCD TV. we too have the same prob u mentioned with our LCD TV we bought a year ago.
over time my hb found out that dvd player does play a part in the image quality for dvd but not vcd coz the data coded on a vcd is not high enough for lcd tv.
to solve the image qlity for tv prog, my hb connects a tv box (bought from sim lim) to our lcd tv n operates it like a pc monitor. this improves the image quite a bit.

Nature walk is ok but walk already what?? Like I said, got picnic then I'll walk.. keke.. Furthermore, my weekends are precious and to be spent with family, so normally won't go out with frens.

Intercon is ex leh.. how about Killiney Kopitiam at Purvis St.. haha.

g-gal... sometimes dun trust the image you see at showrooms... they connect the dvd to a device that projects clearer and more defined image on the TVs... normally after you buy them and play dvds, it doesn't show the same quality you've seen

Ya, I also guess that the images in the showrooms are enhanced. Anyway it's not so bad lah.. just not as crisp as I expected. Hopefully things will look better after we get that tv box thingy. :P

ah siao.. I not interested to organise lah. Lazy liao. Anyway we meet here everyday, no need face to face.

Ceci, I long time never been to Genting liao. The last time was.... after O levels!! But I went to KL for 4 days in Dec. :P Ya SG is getting hotter now... I prefer heavy rain anyday over the heat!!

ah siao.. i prefer samsung... dunno why but i have this perception it is better...

like what i mention.. in those showrooms where they display those LCD and plasma tvs... they normally connect the dvd to pass through a high resolution device which in turns connect to the TV. thus projecting a clearer and more defined image on the TVs... normally after you buy them and play dvds, it doesn't show the same quality you've seen... cos we just use normal connection
 
cecilia, tat one i know..the sales person actually told me tat!!..cos its DVD, so it looks good..but come to TV, cannot expect the same...

but hor, samsung is much expensive leh..unless i go for the 26" one lor...

ggal: Not too sure about your problem but generally, LCD TV is not too good watching normal TV because it has MUCH higher resolution then the normal TV signals and the TV has to scale the signals to fit (how each TV process the signal is different).

Please note that not all LCD tvs are created equally - the japanese brands like sharp, sony have the better screen.

But it should be OK for normal DVD.

I don't think there is a device called hires box. what you see in showroom (for LCD TV) are mostly demo-disks that were specially created - showing very vibrant colour at the maximum possible resolution of the LCD TV - there is no such programs or even DVDs with that sort of resolution.
 
Note that LCD TV is also not so good for fast moving movement like action pack movies - there is a trailing effect unlike plasma which is very good for action pack movies.

LCD TV is very good for still images - and that is why in the showroom for LCD there will always show slow moving or static images whereas for plasma they will show action pack movies.

ah siao.. buy from hdb stores will be cheaper.. dun buy from big stores...
 
ah siao, soccer is not really that fast. unless you buy old LCDs with poor response time, the current crop should be fine. But then again, to set expectation, the current TV resolution sucks so don't expect your LCD TV to look that great.

Yes, big store will charge more. The key thing is to shop around and compare. But please take note, you pay for what you get. You can only make meaningful comparison when comparing same model, same manufacturer across the stores. If you are not in a hurry I suggest to wait for the next PC/digital show - there will be a lot of LCD/plasma TVs - mostly they give you good price and you can even bargain - especially the last day.
 
ah siao, depends on the size you want. for 42inch and above, LCD TV is much more expensive than plasma. If you are buying 32inch or less, then LCD TV is probably the right choice.

Note: I have a 42inch Plasma and a 26inch LCD.
