24th March: ROM Questions

Hi,
Intending to hold my ROM on 24th March Wednesday.
Appreciate it if anyone can share their knowledge for the below:

1) Anyone uses the almanac to pick a date?
Is 24/03 a good/fair day? Any other days recommended for this week?
Anyone ROM-ing on this week also?

2) Usually, do you book the JP first? Or the restaurant first?

3) Currently have about 14 confirmed persons. Should be booking 2 tables.
Prefer Cantonese cuisine. If anyone can share good restaurants. Heard Peony Jade is good.
How about Noble House?

4) For the JPs, is it hard to get them on weekdays? Or most of them prefer on weekends?
Any other alternative besides JP if cannot get one for weekday? Pastors? Any recommendations for solemnizers?

Thanks all

1) I did use the almanac to pick out general auspicious dates but did not take into account 'ba zi', zodiacs, etc. There is a set of general auspicious dates every year you can choose from. According to the auspicious dates, 23/03 and 25/03 are auspicious dates for wedding purposes. I cannot find any mention of 24/03. However, I suggest if you really need to, to consult a master.. He'll know better.

2) For me, I'm not holding my solemnisation indoors, so no restaurant. I booked my venue first before JP though. And I have a friend who booked the JP before confirming the restaurant. I think it's personal preference. I prefer booking venue beforehand to prevent complications such as venue unavailability while my friend prefers to secure 'hot' JPs first(in case he's taken by others on that day) and slowly take her time to find venue. Because details can be changed even after you e-file. At a fee though.

3) I have no suggestions on that. However, what I can suggest is you do your research and list out about 5-10 restaurants you might like. Then find time to go down and check out the ambience, decor, service, etc. The reason is because sometimes you cannot get enough assurance from forums, etc and going down will give you the final chop on what you really like. Going down personally to speak to the restaurant may also get you a better price than online/phone correspondence.

4) There are quite a lot of licensed solemnisers in Singapore, and im sure you'll find one in time for your ROM(: JPs sacrifice their work time to grace your ceremony so many of them are probably working on weekdays. Some only solemnise on weekdays because Sunday is family day(my first JP i sought replied me with this bcos my ROM is on a sunday). while other JPs prefer weekends as they are more free that time. for me, and the friend i mentioned above, we both invited dr. phua tan tee. this was after so many recommendations and online reviews bcos i heard he is an awesome JP. i cant comment yet bcos my ROM has not past and I havent experienced the person he is. however, through emailing i can see he is very patient bcos i have soooo many questions to ask him. oh, and if this helps, he has a car so dnt need to give so much for transport reimbursemnt.

(: hope these help

1) Did have a look at some online almanac (google for chinese almanac). It did say 23rd and 25th are good days.
Was trying to get a separate confirmation source as well. End up its printed on my kitchen calendar.
For those interested, can have a look at those calendar one gets from the gas-delivery guy, haha.
There are vertical columns for each date, stating good (for marriage etc) and no-good (for travel etc) activities. There is a horizontal wording which says 'day clashes with which zodiac').
End up I changed the date accordingly

2) Ah okie. Think the same way as you. Venue with preferred food is kind of harder to get, especially when ppl are trying to throw wedding lunches/dinners as well. Hopefully JPs are easier to find.

3) True. Am going down to do this, haha.

4) For your JP, i.e. Dr Phua prefers to do it on weekday? Is his email address found on ROM site?
If not, could you please send me a private message? Would like to close off JP arrangement.
Will surf this forum for more.

Thanks again Judy

Thanks Judy.
Have had Dr Phua email by reading through the forum.

Thanks will do.
Just to check. What happens after one submits the form to the solemnizer.

By right,
1) He/she will return the form with his signature.
2) Then the couple e-file with the solemnizer license number on the form.
3) Then this has to be brought down to ROM during Verification of Documents.

Still awaiting for Dr Phua response on the form.
Hence wanted to confirm here.

Thanks.

Hi Dr. Phua,

Happy new year! I received the Consent Form yesterday. Just want to clarify - do we call you after we have e-filed to meet up and sign the documents?

Thanks.

Best regards,
Judy & William

Dear Judy,

Contact me for confirmation after you have done the documents verification
at ROM office.

Hi linusz, the above is what dr. phua told us(: so frm what i deduce, after u efile at hme(or at the kiosks in ROM), there will be a date where u guys have to go dwn and verify documents.

the consent form sent via mail by dr. phua is already signed and we just have to fill in our details. there will also be a few set of vows attached so i guess u guys can choose the one u wanna use for ur ROM or come up with one urself.

after that verify ur docs at ROM.. then contact dr. phua again.

i hope im right(:

Me and my partner are planning to get married but we heard from a friend that we have to queue to get a date, then they will put our names on the notice board to pend for any disapproval. Is this true? How long will our names be on the board?

Hi Linusz,

We just had Dr Phua as our JP yesterday; right now you only need to sit back and relax till the date of appointment with ROM to collect your Certs.

On that day you'll be taking an oath and collecting 1 original cert, 1 (photocopy alike) cert where the couple, witnesses and JP will sign on ROM day itself).

The cert collection should be 3-5 days before your ROM date; the whole process won't take more than 20minutes. Once you have the certs, just call or email Dr Phua to 'remind' him of the event.

Nothing much to worry about though, Dr Phua is a fantastic JP. He was very humorous and all our guests loved him. He also provided some excellent advice to us on marriage; even my grandparents loved him hehe..

Congrats!!

Eh, thanks all for the replies.
Yup, the date of ROM is 3 days before.

Jennifer,
Think its up 3 weeks for ppl to search/check.
Thats all. No big deal I guess. Its just those 'Say now or forever hold your peace' thing.
