Anyone ever been to the OrthoSports or Singapore Sports Medicine Centre in Novena? The OrthoSports one i think it's owned by Mount Elizabeth. I have minor injury on my shoulder and knee which still exist after months. not sure about the cause but i think it's due to my gym activity and my lifestyle makes it worse.

Would this Sports specialty medical centres would be better for muscle or neural injuries even ones not related with sports outside other unspecialized hospitals?

i'm also not sure whether to see an orthopaedic or neurologist.

Recommendation please

TIA

Hi thanks so much for the recommendation. I really appreciate it. I believe the doctor would definitely advice me to visit a physician afterwards but I want to know firsthand which part is affected. Would the physician be able to advice an x-ray and diagnose it?

good to see a specialist if yours is such, then they can help you identify the issues. Usually for physios like BMJ, they will get referrals from the specialist as well, so maybe you can ask them to refer you to a specialist? x-ray is more for bones while MRI is for tissues and muscles but also more expensive. I think you shld lay off your gym workout for now until you know whats wrong. You can do resistance training with the resistance bands or water exercises which are low impact.

Shoulder and knee injuries are not uncommon when associated with sports-related injury (including gym). Most of these are orthopaedic in nature (i.e. involves bones / muscle / soft tissue / ligaments) though a few can be neurological in nature (i.e. involves nerves). One easy initial step you can do is to first visit either a Polyclinic or a GP who can then assess your situation - perhaps if your injury is as not as serious, the Polyclinic doctor or GP can prescribe you the necessary treatment without the need for you to see an orthopaedic surgeon / neurologist / sports medicine physician. Some polyclinics even have an in-house physiotherapist and the doctors can refer you on for these physiotherapy sessions if needed. If the doctor feels that your situation does require tertiary specialist care, they can then give you the necessary referral to the right kind of specialist depending on your kind of injury. With a referral from Polyclinic or a CHAS-linked GP, you are then entitled to pay subsidised rates at a government restructured hospital if you decide to want to save some cost instead of seeing a private specialist. Most of the major restructured hospitals will have orthopaedic surgeons and neurologists. As for sports medicine physician, I'm also aware that Changi General Hospital has its own Sports Medicine Centre with sports medicine physicians as well. Hope this helps...

I think you should see an orhtopaedic and see from there if you still need to go a neuro. I havent been at Singapore Sports Medicine Centre in Novena, but I have been with Dr Lim Lian Arn at Alpha Joints & Orthopaedics Pte Ltd. You can try him as well. I would recommend.

Hi Poorbunny,

I think the best move to do here is to see an orthopaedic doctor. He/she would know if your injury concerns an ortho or a neuro. I'd like to recommend to you Dr Sean Ng of Ardmore Orthopaedic Clinic, he's one of the best we got here in Singapura.

Dr Ng is a good ortho choice. I was previously treated by him when I twisted my ankle after a bad fall. I remember he attended to me immediately even if I didn't call beforehand. He's really kind.
