ROBSON STREET This is the shopping area in Vancouver City, which is lined with 1 or 2-storey shophouses on both sides of the streets. A mixture of souvenir shops to ensnare the tourists, famous brands like Guess, DKNY etc and lots of food outlets and cafes. Unlike our Orchard Road, Robson Street does not have any big shopping malls, but its charm is in these shops and friendly service rendered by the shop's personnel. Actually the friendliness of Canadians can be felt throughout the country, not just in shopping areas. The only major mall Dey and I went to was Pacific Plaza, which incidentally cannot quite be seen above ground. It is basically "subterranean" and there are quite a number of levels. Unfortunately, or fortunately for Dey, I am not exactly the shopping type, so we did not stay there for long. GRANVILLE ISLAND I personally love this place more than the shopping area, because it has this great collection of farmers' markets, eateries, artists' studios and lots of boats and yachts moored by the side. It was much colder there because we were near the water so lots of coffee and warm food were the order of the day. The fruits and veggie were amazingly fresh and cheap. Dey and I had this crazy idea of eating hot burritos outside the warm market, by the water. Thought it was a great idea to enjoy one another's company, but in the end, I was freezing my bottoms and my actually tasty burritos were turning cold really quickly. It was still drizzling then, and we tried to hold out as long as possible in the cold because the tranquility of the water, the picturesque view of the moored boats and the mountains, were just so peaceful to look at. The only gripe I had was the seagulls that kept lurking near us because we had food in our hands. KITSILANO BEACH
Dey, Charlene and I had just finished some errands earlier in the day and decided to just take a walk along the beach after dinner. It was already 8-something in the evening, the sun had just decided to call it a day. Charlene and I just sat on one of the many huge logs on the beach, enjoying the orange and yellow hues in the sky. Only when we developed the pictures, did I realise that Dey had taken such a beautiful shot of the best sunset I had seen in years. Maybe it was made even better because of the company I had, two best friends together with one freezing burden ("me" J). Although the sun was out the whole day, the sea breeze was still a force to be reckoned with. |
