17 Marriage Preparation Courses in Singapore that Will Set You Up for a Lasting Marriage

By Tansey Tang on 12 March 2025

Set your marriage up for success with a marriage preparation course before your wedding! Singaporean couples receive up to $140 in rebates for eligible courses.

Marriage is a lifelong commitment filled with love, companionship, and shared dreams. However, like any meaningful journey, it comes with its own challenges. A strong and lasting marriage isn’t just built on love—it requires understanding, commitment, and the right tools to navigate life’s ups and downs together.

Attending a marriage preparation course before your wedding is one of the best ways to invest in your future as a couple. While marriage preparation is only compulsory for any party that is below 21 years old, these courses provide invaluable insights, practical skills, and a supportive environment to help couples build a foundation of trust, communication, and resilience that will last a lifetime.

Benefits of Attending a Marriage Preparation Course

1. Effective Communication Skills

Good communication is the foundation of a strong marriage. Marriage preparation courses teach couples how to express their thoughts and emotions constructively, ensuring a deeper understanding and fostering a strong emotional connection.

2. Conflict Resolution Techniques

Disagreements are inevitable in any relationship. Learning how to resolve conflicts in a healthy manner can prevent misunderstandings from escalating. These courses provide strategies to manage disputes constructively.

3. Setting Realistic Expectations

Unrealistic expectations often lead to disappointments. Marriage preparation programmes help couples align their expectations, addressing common myths and fostering a practical understanding of married life.

4. Financial Planning and Management

Money matters are a frequent source of tension in marriages. These courses help couples discuss financial planning, budgeting, and long-term goals, setting the stage for financial stability.

5. Strengthening Emotional and Physical Intimacy

Beyond practical skills, these courses help couples understand the importance of emotional and physical intimacy, ensuring they build a strong marital bond.

6. Addressing Sensitive and Difficult Topics

A good marriage programme provides a supportive environment to discuss key issues in a marriage. This is particularly important when there’s an elephant in the room—a sensitive topic that both partners may have been avoiding due to discomfort or fear of conflict, such as finances, children, in-laws, religion, conflict, or balance between work and family responsibilities.

These courses can help couples openly explore these common issues and find constructive ways to address them. By tackling these topics in a guided and constructive manner, couples can develop mutual understanding and strategies for navigating their future together.
