Sara and Shaun’s Fairytale Pre-Wedding Shoot in Hong Kong Disneyland And Singapore
Filled with meaningful moments and memories in the making, Sara and Shaun’s pre-wedding shoots were a celebration of everything they love most about each other.
For Sara and Shaun, love is rooted in unwavering loyalty, shared laughter, and the comfort of knowing they will always have each other’s backs. Their relationship reached a magical milestone when Shaun surprised Sara with a proposal at Hong Kong Disneyland, a place that holds special meaning for the couple. When it came time to plan their pre-wedding shoot, returning to the park felt like the perfect way to honour Sara’s lifelong dream of a Disneyland wedding and create lasting memories in a place they both cherish. Making the experience even more meaningful, they became the first couple to wear a qun kua and ma kua for a pre-wedding shoot in Hong Kong Disneyland, securing special permission from the park to bring this unique vision to life. They also did more pre-wedding shoots in specific places in Singapore that felt like they were recreating their first dates. Such a sentimental couple!

Image by themphoto.weddingWhat drew you to each other?
We were drawn to each other’s sincerity. For us, it was about finding a partner who was truly “all in”, someone who didn’t just want a relationship, but specifically wanted to build a life together. That earnest commitment to one another was the foundation of everything.

Above all, we value the unwavering loyalty we share. It’s a steady, grounding force in our lives that gives us a sense of security. Knowing we always have each other’s backs is what we cherish most.

Image by themphoto.weddingWhen did you realise your partner was the one?
It happened in the small, everyday moments. We realised we had found something special when we found we could be completely silly together. Even on the days when we drive each other crazy, we still want to be close. That feeling of wanting to be near each other through the highs and lows never goes away.

Shaun: Before the proposal, we had already travelled to places like Paris and Tokyo’s Disneyland, so a trip to a Disney park felt like a very “us” thing to do. Sara had actually been nagging about going to Hong Kong for the 20th-anniversary celebrations, so when we finally went, she didn’t suspect a thing. Because these trips were such a normal part of our relationship, it made the surprise even more unexpected and special.

Image by themphoto.weddingWhat’s the story behind choosing Hong Kong Disneyland as the location for your pre-wedding shoot?
Shaun: Sara had always dreamed of getting married at Disneyland. While a full destination wedding wasn’t practical for us, we found the perfect compromise—we would hold our wedding locally but have our pre-wedding shoot at Hong Kong Disneyland.
We chose Hong Kong Disneyland because it has always held a deep meaning for us. Even though we couldn’t host the actual wedding there, having our photos taken in the park allowed us to live out that dream and create a permanent memory of a place we love.

Shaun: Honestly, they were exhausting. For the shoot in Hong Kong Disneyland, we were up at 2:00 a.m. and didn’t stop until 2:00 p.m.. It was also freezing cold. Since Sara was in a sleeveless gown for most of it, she spent a good portion of the shoot shivering, but we pushed through it together!
We were met with several challenges during our pre-wedding shoot too. First, we lost track of time and ended up being late for certain location that had very strict time slots. Next, we were both quite self-conscious in the beginning because so many people were watching us. It took us a while to warm up and feel comfortable in front of the camera. Eventually, we learned to block out the crowds and just focus on each other.
Despite the challenges, there were also many memorable moments from our pre-wedding shoot. The funniest part was the “Disney gap” between us. Sara is the massive fan, and Shaun isn’t. In some of the candid shots, the contrast is hilarious—Sara would be tearing up with emotion while Shaun would just be standing there like, “Oh, look, it’s Mickey.” Those moments made the photos feel authentic to who we really are.

Image by SoftgraincoWhat is one lesson you’ve learned from your pre-wedding shoots that you’d like to share with other couples?
Remember that your pre-wedding photos are truly for the two of you, while almost every other part of a wedding is designed for the guests. Make it your own and don’t worry about what anyone else thinks. If you can, turn it into a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Choose something so meaningful that whenever you look back at the photos, you’ll remember exactly how it felt to be in that moment together.
