Nicole and Dominic’s Modern Luxury Wedding in Romantic Hues at PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay Singapore

Best friends turned lovers Nicole and Dominic celebrated their union in a beautiful wedding at PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay, Singapore.

As the saying goes, opposites attract, and that’s how Nicole, 27, Doctor, and Dominic, 29, Doctor, became a pair. Despite their differences, they found a harmony between Dominic’s stoicness and love for sports, and Nicole’s bubbly nature and love of the arts, that eventually turned the best friends into lovers and lifelong partners. After a romantic and intimate surprise proposal that involved their favourite song, Nicole’s favourite flowers and her family, they focused their efforts on planning the wedding of their dreams, one where they celebrate their love and individuality, and where their guests can fully enjoy the celebration as much as they do.

Share with us your story. How did the two of you meet?

Both: We met in medical school in our first year. We were paired together to learn how to draw blood (venepuncture procedure) and taking blood from each other was our first activity together!

What drew you to each other?

Both: We are quite huge opposites and that was what initially drew us to each other. Dom is a lot more stable and stoic while Nic is a lot more bubbly and outgoing. Our interests were diverse – Dom liked sports and Nicole liked arts, but we discovered a harmony despite these differences.

What is it about your partner that you love the most?

Both: It is amazing to marry your best friend. What I love most is our ability to enjoy each other’s company in the simplest moments. From fun times like conquering claw machines, singing karaoke together, playing video games together to delving into nerdy discussions about medical topics like hyponatremia, tertiary hyperparathyroidism and osteoporosis – we find joy in our shared interests and pursuits. Despite our diverse interests (Dom likes basketball, Nicole is 0% sporty. Dom has no passion for the arts while Nicole is a talented artist, designer and calligrapher with her own brand, littleinkedthings), we’ve found a balance.

What was the proposal like?

Nicole: When Dom first asked me to be his girlfriend, he orchestrated a romantic gesture straight out of a movie. Standing on the driveway facing my room window, he held a self-designed large board adorned with glowsticks spelling out the heartfelt question, “Will you be my girlfriend?”. But that was just the beginning. He then crafted a pathway illuminated by candles, forming a heart shape with my favorite soft toy placed in the center alongside a heartfelt card.

Fast forward seven years to the day of the proposal, where Dom surprised me with an unforgettable moment at Upper Seletar reservoir on a tranquil Saturday morning. He thoughtfully compiled a video montage capturing our cherished memories, set to our favorite song, “Aloha” from the K-drama Hospital Playlist, a tune that deeply resonates with both our careers and their love story. The scene was adorned with stunning décor, fulfilling my dream of an outdoor proposal bathed in morning sunlight and surrounded by nature and water. Dom even went the extra mile to procure a bouquet from Liz Florals featuring my favorite flowers, among which pink alstromerias were one of them, symbolising lifelong passion and sweet romance.

Dominic: Nicole had always wanted the proposal to be an intimate event, and hence only two of us and her family were there to witness the moment. It was a proposal as enchanting and perfect as she had envisioned, marking the beginning of our next chapter together.

Tell us about the planning for your solemnisation and wedding banquet.

Both: We wanted our wedding to be filled with love and laughter with the people who matter. We had an intimate solemnisation with family and close friends at The Secret Patio, a beautiful place that captured our hearts instantly. The ambience of the venue was romantic and elegant, with picturesque white colonial walls, providing the perfect backdrop for exchanging vows.

As for the wedding banquet, we selected PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay Singapore because Nicole really loved the shimmering ceiling in the Garden Ballroom, which resembles an open sky filled with stars. This added a touch of enchantment to the celebration which perfectly complemented the bright airy lofty atmosphere of the banquet reception area. Additionally, we prioritised the comfort of our loved ones by choosing a venue with ample parking facilities. Ensuring our guests’ convenience was important to us, and PARKROYAL Collection Marina Bay, Singapore met this requirement while also offering a beautiful and unforgettable setting for our wedding celebration.

What was your wedding theme?

Both: We wanted an atmosphere which was elegant and sophisticated – a vibe of timeless classicism intertwined with modern luxury. We centered our colour palette around various shades of pink, coral, rose and white, adding a sweet romantic touch, and these hues were part of every aspect of our wedding, from the wedding stationery to the table settings, décor and floral arrangements, ensuring a seamless aesthetic.

Done by littleinkedthings, the wedding stationery was finely thought out and linked seamlessly from one to another. The Save the date cards revolved around the blush floral theme embodying the couple’s silhouette; while the Invitation Suite included elements of exquisite Rose Quartz letterpress on delicate cotton paper, wax seals with dried taupe-brown hydrangeas, and botanical-lined envelopes decked in Pantone Coral Blush – with our monogram hot-pressed in champagne gold on the envelope flap. The invitation suite also featured a meticulously crafted map card inked in classic black on vellum — an element often overlooked in contemporary times but essential for those seeking a timeless, elegant calligraphy invitation suite with a touch of luxury. The invitation incorporated both English and Chinese elements to evoke a sense of tradition and heritage to the couple.

For the banquet tables, each table number was thoughtfully crafted in a circle to symbolise harmony and unity of a couple – incorporating elements of translucent monoline floral motifs as well as ethereal watercolor accents of peonies – a flower known to carry meaning to a happy marriage. Our wedding monogram was calligraphed with the initials of our names intertwined within an electrical heartbeat — or what doctors would call a “QRS complex” — into an arc of infinity, to symbolise that our hearts beat as one for eternity.

Nicole: Flowers played a prominent role in our décor, with fresh blooms exuding the class we wanted to portray. We knew we wanted something simple and classic – and Liz from Liz Florals knew the exact vibe we were going for. She beautifully put together a variety of roses ranging from quicksand roses and garden roses to cappuccino roses and white roses – a classic statement of love and beauty. I received numerous compliments on the stunning cascading bouquet crafted by Liz. She curated an asymmetrical heart style infused with movement and texture, incorporating my favorite colors and accentuating the look with refined Phalaenopsis orchids.

The highlight of the floral décor was truly the standing silk flowers. Rather than opting for the traditional backdrop style florals, I envisioned them lining the aisle to evoke the sensation of marching into a vibrant garden of blossoms. Liz executed this vision flawlessly and brought my dream wedding to life with so much skill and finesse. All our guests loved the florals and took them back for sure!

Dominic: We are huge coffee fans. We scour the globe visiting different coffee roasters and we believe in our coffee. In keeping with the theme of quality and luxury, we worked together with KAFVE coffee to curate a His and Hers latte with a coffee cart, where guests could enjoy expertly crafted beverages made from the finest Arabica beans. This personalised touch elevated the guest lunchtime banquet experience, ensuring that every aspect of the wedding reflected our commitment to excellence and attention to detail. We also curated a delectable selection of macarons ranging from vanilla, rose and lychee flavours. These were adorned with floral designs by Nicole, topped with our wedding monogram in a design that was uniquely ours.

Overall, our wedding exuded a sense of understated glamour and sophistication, creating an atmosphere that was both enchanting and unforgettable for all who attended.

Take us back to your wedding day. What was the day like for you and your guests?

Nicole: It passed by really quickly and things moved from one event to the other. All I know was that I was laughing a lot and crying a lot. To sum the day up, our wedding exuded a sense of understated glamour and sophistication, and was both enchanting and unforgettable for all our guests.

Our guests remarked that we “set the bar too high for weddings” and had set an exceptionally high benchmark for our generation. Some even described it as a “Pinterest-worthy wedding”. These heartfelt comments meant a great deal to us, considering the meticulous planning and effort we put into every detail.

Share with us the most memorable moment of your wedding?

Nicole: For me, the most memorable moment was just before the first march-in. As we peeked through the door, we caught glimpses of our pre-wedding video (by Edmund from Project Wedding Day) playing on the large screen. It was the realisation that we were about to be introduced as husband and wife for the first time to all our cherished loved ones and close friends, and that moment was incredibly emotional for me.

Dominic: The most memorable moment was singing in our very own “演唱会” for our second march-in. It was a beautiful moment as we sang the song that meant so much to us, in front of our loved ones. It was a moment that was uniquely ours – walking down the aisle hand in hand, singing joyously with each other.

What is one lesson you’ve learned from your wedding planning that you’d like to share with other couples?

Both: Trust the process! It is not about planning an event, but the journey of it that creates a shared experience for the both of you.
