Light-filled Modern Avant-garde Glasshouse Styled Shoot at 1-Atico
We spent a day in the light-filled 1-Atico amongst the clouds for a styled shoot inspired by abandoned Victorian glasshouses, but with a touch of avant-garde modern aesthetics.
Because of the unpredictable weather in Singapore, many couples have concerns when it comes to planning an outdoor wedding. Although there is absolutely nothing wrong with having your wedding indoors in the air-conditioned comfort of a venue, an outdoor wedding filled with the sights and scents of nature cannot be experienced in a controlled environment.
Speaking of controlled environments, greenhouse or glasshouse weddings have been getting very popular recently, and it’s easy to see why. With floor-to-ceiling glass windows that let in abundant natural light and sweeping views of the outdoors, glasshouses offer a beautiful and modern space for your union. The natural daylight and views of the outdoors create an outdoorsy atmosphere without any of the inconveniences of being outdoors in Singapore’s hot tropical weather.
Elegant without being fussy, the clean lines of the glass walls create a contemporary backdrop against which you can style the wedding of your dreams, whether it’s lavish and extravagant, or sleek and chic. You can enjoy an afternoon bathed in natural light for an intimate ceremony. For evening ‘dos, stars shining through the magnificent windows sets the perfect backdrop for an evening of dancing and drinks as dusk fades to night.
We put together a team that we knew would be able to bring out the best of the concept of the abandoned Victoria glasshouses that we had in mind at 1-Atico. With Brendan from Fellow Folks leading the conceptualising of the shoot and Jinghui from Iki Company behind the lens, we produced a beautiful styled shoot supported by The Make Up Room, The Ivory, Studio HHFZ, Jumi Cakes and Designs, and Artemis Rings.
We knew a cake with strong architectural lines and textured surfaces would look great with the concept, so we approached Misato from Jumi Cakes and Design. Beneath her bubbly nature is a perfectionist who was able to deliver exactly what we asked for. The minimalist design of the cake makes a bold statement against the wild, unpolished mood of the botanical arrangements, yet it blends right in.
We approached The Ivory for the clean, billowy dresses we know they carried, and found one we knew would stand out amongst the botanical arrangements Fellow Folks had done. Complementing the wild and green arrangements at the solemnisation area is a white two-piece minimalist and pleated outfit that looks perfect on our model, Dawn. For the reception area, we featured a deep teal tweed dress with a cut-out back from Studio HHFZ. We love the colour and the fact that it features wood-fired clay beads on the detachable train, tying in with the avant-garde, nature-inspired concept of our shoot. The hair and make up direction from The Make Up Room was also simple but with an emphasis on lips and hairstyle.
Wanting to step away from the usual wedding floral arrangements, Brendan from Fellow Folks sourced for plants and flowers that could be arranged in a stylish haphazard manner to imitate the overgrowth seen at old glasshouses that have not been used in years. You’ll notice minimal florals used at the reception area, but at the dessert table and table set-up, an eclectic and colourful collection of florals can be seen sprouting from the green. This signifies new life and new beginnings, as well as the resilience of new love.
Artemis Rings creates the daintiest vintage-style jewellery with botanical designs using conflict-free diamonds and coloured gems. Sandra usually works closely with couples to customise their wedding jewellery, so she was very involved in selecting pieces to showcase in our shoot, making sure they will fit with the concept.
Located right in the heart of Orchard on level 55 at ION, 1-Atico’s interior boasts earth-toned dining settings and metallic copper features, with warm wood and rose gold colours that conjure the image of nature. The most eye-catching thing about the venue is that it is endowed with natural light in the day because of its glasshouse-like design, making this sky-high venue one of the most popular places to host weddings.
We’d like to thank all the wonderful vendors who came together for this styled shoot!
