Ashlee and David’s Stunning Alila Villas Uluwatu Wedding in Bali
Ashlee and David celebrated their union in a stunning Alila Villas Uluwatu wedding overlooking the sea.
Ashlee Goh, 29, Online Marketer, and David Er, 31, Businessman wanted a very intimate yet special wedding, and the couple decided to tie the knot overseas! They celebrated their union in a stunning destination wedding at Alila Villas Uluwatu, overlooking the sea.
How did you meet?
We met each other during high school in 2005, and we started to date each other after that.
What drew you to each other?
Ashlee: The first time I saw him he was with a bunch of friends, and he came up to me just to say, “Hi.” He asked for my number after we had met up a few times and his friends made fun of him. We started to text for quite a long time. I found him to be a sincere and loyal friend to talk to, and it really expedited our relationship.
What is it about your partner that you love the most?
Ashlee: He has a very kind and generous heart. Not an everyday-romantic person, but he will give me a surprise sometimes! He is humorous, but serious when he is working. I feel very secure when I’m with him.
How was your wedding planning journey?
We had always wanted a very intimate yet special wedding, therefore we chose to have our weddding overseas, in Bali. We did face a lot of challanges, as we were totally clueless about how to start planning a wedding at a destination with which we were not familiar. We started to do some research online, watched a lot of Bali wedding videos, and decided to look up a professional local wedding planner. Varawedding was just what we were looking for; they suggested and planned according to our budget and wedding style and worked in a very professional way.
Where was your wedding venue?
We chose Alila Villas Uluwatu. We had watched a lot of Bali wedding videos and when we flew to Bali for a site inspection, we fell in love with Alila at first sight. We declared “Let’s get married here!” and confirmed the venue on the spot.
What was your wedding theme?
Our wedding theme is rustic and yet romantic. We researched references pictures on Pinterest and Instagram, and handed them to our wedding decoration team Silverdust. They handled it professionally and created a mood board according to our preferences. To us, Alila was already a wonderful venue with amazing scenery, so the decor was perfect for us.
How was your wedding day?
Everything just went amazingly well! Time went by really really quickly on the day, and we were happy and yet sad when the day came to an end.
What was your favourite moment of the wedding?
Ashlee: Never ever in my life have I seen my father cry, but during our ceremony, my father teared up and couldn’t finish his speech. It was such an emotional moment for us and we were so glad that the ceremony went smoothly.
Also, there’s one major highlight from our wedding. As crazy as it sounds, we hired a rainstopper! The thing is, it is actually a big hit for weddings in Bali! Before the dinner reception, we saw a dark cloud coming our way and it was already starting to drizzle. I was so worried because our wedding was held outdoors without any shelter, and the rain started to get heavier after our first course dinner. I was told not to worry by one of the assistants from Varawedding, because the rainstopper was working on it (praying) and after a few minutes, the rain stopped! It was like magic! Every guest was amazed. It was such a memorable experience for us too, and we’re so glad that our wedding went smoothly till the end.
What did your family and friends say about your wedding?
They were really surprised as the flow and ambiance was really unique and different from traditional weddings. They really enjoyed it and had a great time.
Do you have any advice for other couples?
Get a wedding planner! That’s very important for overseas weddings; they really help and smooth your wedding progress. Overseas weddings might be costly, but a planner will help to control everything under your budget. Lastly, hire a rainstopper if you are planning to have a Bali wedding; you won’t regret it!
