Amanda and Jon’s Beautiful Wedding at The Clifford Pier

A couple of months after our wedding fashion editorial shoot with Amanda and Jon, the couple finally did the deed! The star-studded wedding, held at The Clifford Pier, was a year in the making, and boy, was it worth the wait.

How often do you get to attend a wedding emcee-ed by Fakkah Fuzz, or have the start of dinner announced by fireworks, or be serenaded by Sezairi while you sip champagne, or end the night partying with Nathan Hartono and The Sam Willows? It was as fabulous as you imagined. Amanda and Jon’s wedding on 13 July 2019 was a night of inside jokes, belly laughs, joyful tears, amazing friendships, and lots of champagne.

More than just a star-studded celebrity wedding, this pair of lovebirds were able to bring together their families and friends in a celebration of love and faith. Throughout the night, both Amanda and Jon flitted from round table to rectangle table, making sure everyone was well-fed and felt included. It was one of the best weddings I’ve ever attended, because everyone, including the bride and groom, was truly having a great time.

It’s been less than a week since the wedding! Are both of you still recovering from it?

Jon: Yes! It’s been a crazy weekend and I’m still severely hungover from it!

Amanda: Yes, at this point I’m still incoherent. Haha!

How did the morning of your wedding go?

Jon: It was especially great because our friends and family were with us all day. And everyone put in a lot of effort and we’re extremely thankful for it!

Amanda: I always knew that I wanted the gatecrashing and tea ceremony if I ever got married because I grew up with these traditions. As newer generations start to lose touch with their roots, myself included, it’s important to keep traditions that define our culture alive.

Did both of you have a hard time choosing your outfits?

Jon: I love my Hugo Boss tuxedo. It wasn’t too difficult for me. I managed to complete the fitting in a day.

Amanda: From the get-go, I knew I wanted something classic and for the ages. I was looking for a dress that didn’t overwhelm me. Being my size, it was definitely a challenge because there were so many ballgown dresses that just didn’t suit my stature. When we were in New York, I tried on the Carolina Herrera dress and I really liked it but I decided to keep my options open. After visiting so many bridal stores and many months later, I concluded that that was the dress for me!

It was a really spectacular wedding venue. How did you come to choose The Clifford Pier for your wedding?

Jon: The Clifford Pier is by far the most beautiful venue I’ve been to. I took Amanda on a date there once, and never expected we’d be able to have our wedding there. There wasn’t so much a theme than it was having a purpose. Our purpose of the wedding was for everyone to enjoy and have fun.

Amanda: We went on a date at The Clifford Pier once. So when we got engaged, we were looking around for venues and when we saw that we could host our wedding at The Clifford Pier, it was decided. Also, I had no idea it was the one of the most expensive wedding venues in Singapore, okay!

How were you able to plan the wedding when you’re both busy with work?

Jon: We had a wedding planner. It was Tina and Lesley from Directions Group. They were truly amazing in executing all our ideas, and going the extra mile for us!

Amanda: We had Tina and Lesley from Directions Group, who made the process so easy and, dare I say, enjoyable for us. They understood what we had in mind and executed them to a T. They were amazing and there wouldn’t have been such a successful wedding without them! I highly suspect they’re not just planners. They’re wizards!

You guys did a great job hosting a wedding that both the older folks and your friends enjoyed. Did you hear any comments from them after the wedding?

Jon: Yes! The feedback from everyone was that it was a good balance. Our older guests enjoyed it, while our younger guests were mostly drunk by 9 pm, which is a great thing!

Amanda: Our whole goal for the night was for everyone to have fun with us. And I know for a fact that everyone did. We had such great feedback the day after from all our guests, young and older!

Those perfectly-timed fireworks, courtesy of the NDP rehearsals! Did you know about it beforehand?

Jon: We both knew that there were going to be fireworks, but it was more spectacular than I had imagined.

Amanda: Tina and Lesley did inform us about the fireworks but I didn’t think too much about it. We didn’t plan to include it in our celebrations. It was honestly a coincidence and a spontaneous moment right after my father-in-law ended his speech.

It sure was a fabulous, star-studded event. But it was fun to see how close all your friends are. Everybody knew everybody!

Jon: Yes. These guys are all good friends of mine. The friendships were forged over the years and they were all happy to be a part of the wedding!

Amanda: We have such an amazing group of friends who have been so helpful every step of the way. We’re just so lucky they’re extra talented too!

What were your most memorable moments from the entire day?

Jon: The father-daughter dance. I thought that was an extremely emotional moment.

Amanda: EVERYTHING! Are you really going to make me pick?

Tell us about your thoughts now that the day you’ve been planning for for a year is over.

Jon: I’ve learnt that 230 guests can finish 50 bottles of champagne. And can continue to drink till 5 am the next day. Singaporeans and Malaysians can really party if they’re in the right environment.

Amanda: This occasion turned out way beyond my imaginations, from our friends and family being there and being surrounded by so much love… we looked at all the people who were with us that day and we realised that they were all there to celebrate us. It was so beautiful and I wish I could show you how my heart felt.
